Hi All, i guess all you out there and pretty sure what you want to do in the MS as a area of spec ( the Ph.d's, i totally respect you ) but now when i sit and look more into the courses and the tracks and the concentrations, confusion brews in my mind...is something wrong with me or does everyone go through this phase....please tell me... Hi All, Back after a wide hiatus ? was down with flu and didnt have any energy to get up...in the meanwhile columbia sends the admit papers home and no energy even to shout with joy :yuck: havent heard anything from nyu,cornell or suny as yet. i saw in cornell's website that M.Eng is self-funded meaning there is no aid for us ppl !!!!!! is that true guys...and like already posted on this thread how does a M.Eng match upto M.S ? questions that trouble my mind into the wee hours of morning :eek: and i have to send a deposit to columbia by april 15 to confirm the status but i am still waiting to see some response from the other univs... M

hi all, Am yet to receive any correspondence from all (except columbia) thebestucanget: yeah me too....i got a mail saying stuff is ok ronnie2005: i saw that withdraw stuff when apping but didnt go and delve much into it ? what does it do nways...a little light on this from your side would help. does that refund your money back or something ? for me columbia is more than a dream its a super dream...i would dare not even go near that withdraw button man .... :D M

well, me majored in EE but three years in automotive software engg field and i did quite a few weighty projects like RTOS development for TMS320, powertrain feature develop for car and trucks and stuff and into software engg, auditing procedure and all....hey gforce can you to share some details about you too !!!!:p

thank gforce, i didnt get the admit as such. I just got a mail from the department saying they have recommended my app to the SEAS school and the school decides finally. So I am just keeping my hopes not so high...i mean its Columbia and i dont want to feel all disappointed in the end if nothing works out... this is my profile B.E in EE GRE - 2050 /2400 toefl - 297/300three years work ex in soft engg no major papers or anything....project in undergrad received a grant in coll. whats your profile and where have you apped .... Hi, Just got a e-mail saying that the dept of comp sci has recommended my admit to the SEAS -Columbia University. I call them up and they say its a informal admit and i need to wait to receive a formal note from the school sometime in the first week of march. by the way, i have apped for M.S in comp sci for Fall 2005. Is anyone out here planning to go to Columbia too ? In that case, I was wondering how you are planning to get some TA RA jobs and so on... please do respond...i need advice ppl...:) M

nopainnogain, Thats quite unfortunate..going through the whole test is already painful and stressing and on top of that to have the computer switch off due to some wire problem is one hell of a pain..but yes, I too cheer your will to sustain and complete the test to the end...i doubt whether I could have proceeded after such a similar mishap ...hoping your essay goes all well you get a 6 for that and your score should be 250.... take care and what was you essay topic M

hey Mervat, Thats a good score man. Don't get upset over it. Essay range 5 to 5.5 means you have done the essay well. Looks like your score went down in Reading comprehension. If you plan to take it up again, this is where you need to concentrate more. Try doing a lot of excercises and when you make a mistake read the answer explanations well and try to think on the same lines as the answer explanation and understand fully why your answer went wrong..you will see that you will slowly improve over time. take care M

Hi Shreeankit and Mervat, I live in New Jersey, the home town on ETS ! and still they took the whole two weeks to send me my scores. I am sooo angry with them. What about you Mervat, where are you currently put up...it takes an average of two weeks for the scores to reach. Shreeankit, sorry dude. I do not have any materials as such that I have to help you out. These were the only things that I referred to. This test magic forum had a lot of scripts and questions..did u try them out ? Have you scheduled your test yet. Please schedule it to suit your biological clock. If you are not a early riser please do NOT schedule it for eight in the morning...I am bad at waking up early and mine test was at eight and i was so groggy most of the time and hungry too ! Before the scores came I thought I have totally done the whole thing in a miserable fashion. The listening was like so damn tough...initially it started out ok and then towards the end people kept talking and talking for hours together...and i was wondering if they would even stop ! I don't know why it became like that towards the end. take care M

Hi, Me just finished my on-line apping to Columbia and Suny SB for the Fall 2005. Masters in CS...software engg and prog languages.. waiting to get the result..any idea when it might arrive...my toefl just arrived today and i am so happy - 297/300 ..... M

Hi shreeankit, Thanks man ! Well, I took my toefl on the 28th Dec 2004. I had twenty five days to prepare to be exact. The study materials that I had used were 1. Barrons TOEFL prep - this comes with some 8 tests 2. Barrons TEOFL prep - this book comes with lots of excercises for all the sections 3. Powerprep's toefl tests that ets had sent. And hey, please also look into the sample essay list that ets gives. Spend some 10 minutes a day and look into some 5 to 10 topics and mentally prepare some points for the essay. This really helps and keeps you prepared..this way you dont have to sit at the test and come up with points..u save a lot of time and u need time for the essay section. Another section where you can score (where i missed one point ) is the RC. Remember, here you can always go back and change your answer and everyone in the center gets the same set of questions that you do ...so you are not being made to answer tougher questions just because you answered the previous ones right....so get to do the rc excercises and aim for a 30 in there..all the best..when is the D-day let me know if you need any more help M
