  1. Erin, You ask an interesting question about what "helping others" is (or means to me). In my mind there is two areas where I help. One is in my personal life and the other is in my professional life. In my personal life I have taken an active role as a Big Brother through the United Way Big Brother/Big Sister program. I had a volunteer little brother for 6 years (until he graduated High School). My dedication and ideas of improving community outreach offered me an opportunity to serve on the advisory board for the United Way. Giving to me has not been a one time deal. But just as studying for the GMAT helped many of us at work; giving of yourself to build your resume of accomplishments will do more for you than you could ever realize.... In my professional life I have always been big on making each organization I am involved with better (even at the cost of my own personal gain). There are many times where I face the opportunity to be malicously obedient, but I have always refused to do that. I was even once removed as project manager because I refused to say what they wanted me to say. Instead I stuck to my guns. 9 months later they asked me to take the project back. I am happy to say it is this group who I am handing my Wharton acceptance letter to tomorrow to let them know I am leaving. I believe you reap what you sew and you build a reputation, you don't just get one. Hope that helps.

  3. Well, I guess most people's last post is the GMAT score. My score was not what I was hoping for, So I have decided to make this my last post on Test Magic. After getting 700 or higher on the pre-tests, I was depressed to recieve less than the 80 percentile low on the actual test. The Math which was my strong point ended up killing me. I almost didn't apply but I read so much about the score being only a part of the package. I focused on my essay's and learned what it meant when people said "be yourself". I have just been accepted to Wharton and also believe I will be accepted to Harvard in the coming weeks (Good problems to have). I don't have family alum's and I am not being sponsored by a company that is stock-piled with W/H grad's. I think my recommenders had state school degrees at best. But what I do have is accomplishments. Accomplishments in my personal and professional life. I have involved with community service and tried to make work a better place. As I have been on those message boards I have realized a lot of people got denied that were in the high 700's. The point is that the score is important but not everything for the top schools. If you are applying for next year, study hard but don't put it ahead of developing yourself in other areas which will show your leadership and individuality. Do volunteer work, make a difference in someone's life, do something different, take on more responsibility. There are too many applicants that have great scores to think that a 760 will get you in over a 720. The ones that are getting selected are well rounded; not GMAT crack-heads........ I want to say Thank you to all of those that helped me down the stretch as well as those who left a legacy for us to pick up. That starts with Erin, moves to Spidy, and folks like Karmaholic, Preity, CTG, Chix, Mav, Cronique and who were willing to take the time to explain things. Good luck, follow your dreams and be YOURSELF when you apply.

  8. CABS, On #1, I followed you until you got stated 2^(n+1/2). Should it have been 2^((n+1)/2)? That is how it equals 11, right? Furthermore, is it a rule of exponents that you can pull out one of the powers and then divide the exponent by 2? On #2, your answer is incorrect On #3, Thanks, I thought that it would have to be 2. I didn't realize you could have a median of 9 if the third box was also 9. question 2: 2^x-2^(x-2)=3*2^13 2^x-(2^x/4)=3*2^13 (3/4)*2^x=3*2^13 2^-2*2^x=2^13 2^(x-2) = 2^13 x=15 which is OA Thanks CABS, you got me going in the right direction!

  11. CTG, I also get B, what book is that from?
  12. Answer is A: 1. SUFF. slope of -1/6 will go up to the left and down to the right. Therfore it will always intersec quadrants II and IV 2. Insuff. If the question had asked about quadrant I or III, the answer would have been C.
  13. I went with B. I got to the solution that r=-s. Isn't that what the question is asking?

  18. CABS, Is there a quick way to solve those three variable and three equations?
  19. It sounds really akward without the "and". Which allows x, and y seems better than Which allows x, y. That leaves A and B. B seems more correct in how the sentence goes to x from y. Where A goes to x rather than y. On the other hand, lessens sounds weird, but maybe since it is modifying requirement and not time it is O.K. to use here? So B
  20. Hey everyone. I am going to have to figure out what to do. What I can't believe is that I bombed the math!:mad: which should have been my strong subject. I did much better of Verbal than I thought I would do and knew going into the test that I would have to rely on a strong math, which is what I expected. First 7 or 8 were O.K. then I got a really tough prob. question. From there I don't know if I paniced or focused too much on problems and not on theory. I went into the tank and I am so bummed now. I have to see if I can take the test on the Third and still apply to my schools? (The big 3)..... Thanks to all of you and may see me back here in a little while after I figure out what I am going to do>>>>>. My suggestion for math: Know theory of all the sections. Do not just do endless problems because the ones on the test will be different from the ones you have done repetetively.
