  1. if you think you can improve your score by more than 30 points, take the test again (after preparing for 2-3 weeks).. This score is decent - you would not be filtered because of this score.. but as your GPA is also on lower side - if you are planning to apply at top 15 business schools, it would be a good idea to take test again
  2. I took lots of tests.. 8 paper tests (score in range 720 to 780) , poweprep tests ( score 720, 760). GMATPrep (740, 760) and 800scoretests (average around 700). Prep strategy is similar to people recommended here: used execl templete while doing OG to identify weak area.. used Manhatten's SC guide to improve SC- my weak area... Used OG and everything from ETS (paper tests, powerprep, gmatprep, ...) as bible on verbal... Looked at testmagic forum questions only if they appeared 'real GMAT' questions (once you look at lots of ETS questions you get a feel for which questoins are realGMAT Qs and which one are not) - even sometime I will use search on testmagic with terms 'real gmat question' to identify these questions.. My verbal started with SCs (3 or so) and then had 2 back to back RCs... CRs started around question 12 or so.. first BF question was around Q 14.. As promised.. I will upload various electronic documents I have... I tried to upload a file and I got following error... Warning: mkdir(attachments/1/9): Permission denied in /includes/functions_file.php on line 112 Any help from techgurus?
  3. GMAT score I received is in my target range (730+) so I am happy!:) EXAM PREP: After postings from trailblazers such as Twinsplitter, Gray,.. I don't have much to say about the prep... Only different method I used than recommended by gurus in this forum was one for RC. I am an avid reader -so was familiar with many of the RC topics that appear in GMAT (believe or not - but there are few people out there who read this stuff for fun ;) ) However, because of my slow speed with SCs, I could not afford to read entire passage .. I always read question and looked for answer information in the passage rather than reading an entire passage. I mainly used flashcards for my prep - as they are not in electronic format I can't share with you guys but I will share various documents I have (many of them are compilation from TestMagic Forums) in seperate posts.. Testing center: Parking lot next to a Bethesda testing center is going through construction.. So if you don't like background of jack hammer noise - don't choose this center. Exam Experience: My exam experience also had been 'usual'. Nothing much to report. Difficulties of questions were at the level of GMATPrep rather than OG or Powerprep. I got few (about 4) perm, comb, and probabilities and 2 boldface CRs. Some of the actual questions I got(verb (including BF) as well as quont) are already discussed in the testmagic forums. I will answer any questions you guys have.. I will like to attach various docs - however I get error (can not create directory - mkdir .../include) when I try to attach files.. any help from tech gurus is appreciated.
  4. My answers are also: B A A D Real Gmat passage difficulty depends on your perceived score at the time (i.e. the score computer has calculated for you at that point).. This essay appears to be for 700+ gmat-takers.
  5. another rule related to prime no is : all prime nos > 3 are next to multiple of 6 e.g. 6*n prime nos 6 5, 7 12 11, 13 18 17, 19 24 23 ... .. ..
  6. I find it easy to replace values.. I started with answer t = 2.5 so t +.5 = 3 v-3 = distance/time = 90/3 = 30 so v = 33 v+3 = 36 distance downstream = v+3 * t = 36 * 2.5 = 90 so 2.5 is the answer... If distance would have been > 90 that would have indicated that speed should be less than 36 i.e. v-3 less than 33 i.e. time more than 2.5 similarly sitance less than 90 would indicate that I have choose answer less than 2.5
  7. one way to look at this problem is (-however, I feel there must be better approach) :... product of even intergers upto 100 h(100) = xxxxxxxxxx0000 (because it has 100, 10, 50*2, etc..) So h(100)+1 will be like xxxxxxxx00001 if you try any of the values e.g. 400001, 500001, ... they are prime numbers or they have prime factor > 40. hence the answer.

    GMATPrep questions

something is missing or typed wrong in q3. one way to test this is let's say x = 2 and y = 1/2 (so that xy = 1). eqn gives 25/9 not 16 as oa claims. Eqn should give same results for all possible values of x and y.

  10. Take example of x = -2, y = -1 - they meet condition x/y > 1 and both are not positive.. example of x= 2 , y = 1 will reveal that both are positive and meets condition x/y > 1 Hence stmt 2 is insufficient.

If you are using sample values... you should try to prove that statement is insufficient.. (i.e. think of a case in which the condition fails) e.g for stem 1 using fixed x say 100 and values of y and z : (2, -1) and (-2, -1) gives different results.. i.e. statement is insufficient.
  12. Good score. Can you pl let us know you GMATPrep and other test scores ( and when you took those tests)?
  13. According to various adcom comments I have read, adcoms look for percentile range (yours is good) in your gmat score. You will need to show in your overall application that communication skill is not your weakness ( i.e. through essays). Checkout blogs by Wharton adcoms (and discussion board answers by current student) - you will feel more comfirtable with your score.
  14. I agree answer is E. This is not a probability question. When ever you see maximum or minimum you need to look at the best (or worst scneario). In that case let's assume that you have the best luck and you choose always the right brick (i.e. non-black brick). You can choose 8 bricks max that is non-black.
  15. I really like bschool_guru's function.. Here I have applied it to various questions to explain it further. 1. How many squares between 2 and 16? function is y = x^2 inverse function is sqr(x). S = floor( sqr(16)) - celing ( sqr(2) ) + 1 = 4 - 2 + 1 = 3 ( common sense answer as 4, 9 and 16 are one that satisfies the condition) 2. how many numbers between 1 to 96 that is divisible by 8? function is y = x * 8 ( to be divisible by 8 , y need to be multiple of 8). inverse function is y = x / 8 S = floor ( 96/ 8) - celing ( 1 / 8) + 1 = 12 - 1 + 1 = 12 3. how many numbers between 101 and 1001 divisible by 7? function = y = x * 7 inverse function is y = x/7 S = floor( 1001/7) - celing (101/7) + 1 = 143 - 15 + 1 = 129 HTH -Hem
