  1. Prompt: Manned space flight is costly and dangerous. Moreover, the recent success of a series of unmanned space probes and satellites has demonstrated that a great deal of useful information can be gathered without the costs and risks associated with sending men and women into space. Therefore, we should invest our resources in unmanned space flight." Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted. Essay: The argument states that we should invest our resources in unmanned space flight rather than manned space flight because of the following factors. The first factor is manned space flight is expensive and involves risk. The second factor is recent success of a series of unmanned space probes and satellites. The arguer does not take all the factors into account. The argument depends on few assumptions. If the assumptions prove invalid, then the argument falls apart. Firstly, the arguer assumes a great deal of information can be gathered without costs and risks associated with sending men and women by stating recent success series of unmanned space flights as evidence. The arguer does not state what is the information gathered from recent success series and is that information useful for everyone. The recent success series cannot guarantee future success of unmanned space flights. There are cases where more useful information can be gathered from manned space flight as unmanned space flights can gather only the intended information. In manned space flight, a man can gather information about unknown things. If any information could be gathered using using unmanned space flight, then it offers support to the argument Secondly, the arguer assumes that unmanned space flight is better compared to manned space flight as unmanned space flights are cheaper and involves less risk. The arguer does not state if any information can be gathered by unmanned flight. In case of manned space flights, a man can know how to handle risks and gather information. If manned space flights can gather some information which could not be gathered by unmanned space flight, it is better to invest in manned space flight to reap more profits though it is costly. However, if most of the information can be gathered by using manned and unmanned space flights, then it offers support to the argument. If the above assumptions are unwarranted, then it undermines the argument. When all factors which are used for gathering the information are taken into account, they can be used to strengthen or weaken the argument.
  2. Government funding for purely scientific endeavors, such as space exploration, should be reduced in order to direct more funding toward humanitarian science projects. In the modern era, tons of funds are allocated for research and growth in science and technology. Its only due to the scientific development that we are able to communicate wireless accross the globe, see images of black holes and many other uncountable inventions. These might not have been possible if government had not fulfilled the monetory requirements. The issue claims that authoritites should decrease the funding provided in scientific endeavors and should direct these funds towards science projects devoted towards humanitarian needs. Indeed, doing so would lead to more money towards science projects that serve the society. This may seem right for particular nations where finance is a major issue but for nations with plenty of funds, this claim turns to be obstructing the nation's growth. Funds in purely scientific endeavors like space exploration should not be stopped. In today's world, the power of a nation is indirectly displayed by the quality and quantity of space missions completed successfully. Countries show their superiority by sending satellites to orbits of mars and other parts of solar system. A fear is brought in the minds of rival nation by such space explorations. If such space projects are to be cancel due to lack of funds, there is an harm to human safety. Fear amongst rival nations would be reduced and can at worst lead to wars. Investors are always on a look for the new tech in the market. There is a crazy flow of money where technology promises future. This is one of the reasons why countries that research on purely scientifc projects have a strong economy. For example, USA has tons of funding available for almost all the scientific fields. This has lead to many foreign companies to invest in the USA and many people to migrate here to persue their dreams in research. Due to this, the economy has become firm and the country is benefiting as a whole. Had government not put in enough funds towards purely scientific endeavors, would the country be as great as it is now? It is clear that these scientific developments and space endeavors require huge funds. This a major reason why poor nations do not have significant space projects. It is not wise to put in money in building space crafts when a countries can not feed its citizens. Poor countries thus need to focus on science project which help their citizen directly. In essence, I disagree with the statement that funds should be diverted towards humanitarian science projects from the purely scientific project as long as the country has enough funding for both. The priority for money allocation should be clear to the government. The money should first go to project fulfilling human needs and then towards purely scientific research.
  3. Essay topics: Government funding for pure science endeavors, such as space exploration, should be reduced in order to direct more funding towards humanitarian science projects. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to consider specific instances for which this statement may or may not be true. Over the last century we as humans have witnessed a phenomenal advancement in the space exploration sector. New private companies such as SpaceX and Blue Origin have pledged to take humans to planet Mars for the first time. NASA, which is an independent space agency of the United States has a budget of approximately $2 bilion dollars annually. It is difficult to account for the direct impact space exploration has caused on the socity as a whole. Space exploration has helped us in making various scientific discoveries and in providing a better understanding of the functions of our cosmos. The question is whether is it worth spending so much to see space as venue for futhure scientific discoveries rather than directing such funds towards humanitarian science projetcs? Humanity’s imagination and curiosity is one of the biggest factor which has lead us to explore the space frontiers and solve one of our basic questions, who are we? Space explorartion has played a big role in proving few answers to our existential questions. Humans are still at the rudimentary stage in exploring our unimginably vast universe. Our home, which is planet Earth has only a limited amount of resources which is depleting at an unprecedented rate. There will come a time when we have used up all our resources and will not be able to provide basic necessities to our growing population. The only way to meet these demands is if we have mastered and made space travel cheaper. Humans will then be able to extract resources from other planets or their moons. With the help of space exploration we humans can find and colonize different planets in case of a natural catastrophe. Technology and communication play vital roles in our society. Today, within seconds we can locate malls or restaurants near us and send instant messages or share funny cat videos. Its because we humans have a good understanding of the Earth’s orbit we can launch satellites which is a great contributor to our existing fast communication system. Another major benefit derived from space exploration is that it helps us to detect any harmful radiation from explosion of stars near our solar system coming towards us. On the other hand, there are other fileds in science which requires immediate attention, such as finding cheaper ways to produce clean energy and redefining agriculture. Solving these issues will have an immediate and a direct impact on the society. Advancement in renewable energy will help us tackling climate change and will eradicate the need for resources from other celestial bodies. Given that there are limited funds priorities have to be determined. From a broader perspective and for the protection of the human race it is necessary to divert most of the funds to development of space travel and exploration.
  4. Is a full year sequence in analysis important for signalling? The course I'm considering not taking is the second course in our analysis sequence and has the following description: "Multivariable calculus , including differential mapppings, the inverse and implicit fucntion theorems, integration in higher dimensional space, fundamental theorm of calculus, Lebesgue measure, Fubini's theorem, change of variables formula and Fourier analysis."
