rafatsiddique
My answer is D: and aproach is as follows:- First we need to understand that there are two simultaneous actions that are taking place - Rate of addition will drop while the rate of loss will rise, so when there are two different rates we cannot use a pronoun for the rate of loss. - So the answer will be only option D. Hope this hels , apart from this A& C use those for Singular rates and B uses it - which referes to rate of addition where we need the rate of loss. diya123
I am not very clear on this.. Could someone please help..
zuckerman
Yeah... I believe it should be D. We have "rate of addition to arable lands" in the original sentence. Only choice D provides a logical balance that touches the process of loss, while keeping the form intact.

In B , "it" is not clear. D is the right option.
AKSTCS
Ms.Chambers is among the forecasters who predict that the rate of addition to arable lands will drop while those of loss rise. (A) those of loss rise (B) it rises for loss © those of losses rise (D) the rate of loss rises (E) there are rises for the rate of loss. Please explain your answers. Rate is the noun whose relative pronoun we have to put in those of loss rise Rate should have singular pronoun Elim A, C Now B says "rate of addition" rises for loss which doesnt make the sentence sensible. D and E correct the sense. But E is wordy and not parallel. Thus answer D.
B-Guru
Agree with both singular and pronoun error explanations. D is the only choice that avoids both the mistakes.
