basco
Hey all, I am applying this year and I have a background that my professors told me is very likely to be placed at Top5, so that's where I am going to try. I am really struggling to write the SoP. Could anyone guide me, show me a perhaps successful examplory sop that I could at least use to guide me? dogbones
You would need to post your actual profile with the standard template you can find from other similar posts, and that way we could at least attempt to see where your strengths and weaknesses may be? gentvenus
I wonder what makes your profs think you can place in a Top 5 if you haven't got a clear purpose yet!
startz
I wonder what makes your profs think you can place in a Top 5 if you haven't got a clear purpose yet! The SOP is just not that important. And not being sure how to write an SOP is not at all the same thing as not having a purpose.
stressedout101
May be this will help "http://businessphdwiki.com/doku.php". There are a few SOPs in the google drive mentioned on the page. They are all business SOPs though.
tbe
Agreed that the Statement of Purpose is not that important. In our admissions process, we use the SoP to check that the applicant can write in English reasonably well, has some understanding of what graduate school in economics is about, and has research interests that line up with our department. We are mid-sized department that specializes in a few fields. If you write that you are interested in a field that we don't offer, it's clear you didn't bother to look at our website and/or you wouldn't be a good match in our program. Evonomist294
@dogbones Really? He is asking about an example for sop, why do you need to know his profile? It seems whenever someone posts something on this site, the first reply would be to “follow this and this format and post your profile”. No wonder new users are put off and this site is dying. dogbones
@Evonomist294: Are you suggesting that the OP’s request has been fulfilled?
