  2. 45.The following appeared as an editorial in a wildlife journal.r ~?jBR%ky1nR "Arctic deer live on islands in Canada's arctic region. They search for food by moving over ice from island to island during the course of a year. Their habitat is limited to areas warm enough to sustain the plants on which they feed, and cold enough, at least some of the year, for the ice to cover the sea separating the islands, allowing the deer to travel over it. Unfortunately, according to reports from local hunters, the deer population are declining. Since these reports coincide with recent global warming trends that have caused the sea ice to melt, we can conclude that the decline in arctic deer population is the result of deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea." The argument is well-presented, but not well-reasoned. The author drawed a conclusion that the decline in the numbers of artic deer is because of deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea based on a coincidence between reports from local hunters, states that the deer populations are decreasing, and the sea ice melting caused by recent global warming trends. The argument seems logical. However, a careful examination of it would reveal how groundless it is. First of all, the claim that the deer populations are declining is open to doubt owing to the lack of solid evidences and scientific statistics. The argument did not mention that the dates range of these reports, the location distribution the deer populations. Without date range, we can not tell if the deer populations are actually declining. For example, maybe, the numbers of artic deer are decreasing in this year, but they increased in the last year and may increase in the next year. Without the locations of the deer populations, we can not arbitrarily draw the conclusion that the deer populations are declining, because there might be some other areas where the deer populations are increasing and these areas are undiscovered by local hunters. Admitting the population of artic deer is declining, the author uses positive correlation between the declining of the deer populations and global warming trends to establish causality. However, the fact the former coincides with the latter does not necessarily prove that the decreasing of the deer populations is caused by global warming. Firstly, global warming may result in more areas in one single island in Canada’s artic region become warm enough to sustain the plants that can feed deer, so that a large number of the deer don’t have to migrate to other islands across the sea to obtain food. Secondly, There may be some city constructions, newly developing industries that cause the environmental pollutions that can result in the shorter life expectancy for each deer. In sum, the argument is logically flawed and therefore unconvincing as it stands. To strengthen it the author must gather more detailed reports which indicate the dates range, locations, and so on. At the same time, the author must rules out others reasons which may cause the declining the deer populations.
  3. Position: Agree. 1. 8. While it is true that as an effective politician, he or she can not tell the truth all the time, that dose not mean complete honesty is not an useful virtue. In fact, Honesty is an essential requisite for effective political leaders. The prerequisite of an effective leadership is that the leader is trusted, recognized, and respected by public populace. Only with the honesty characteristic, a leader could gain followers, so that he or she can make rules, orgnize working group, assign tasks to his group and all other kinds of things very smoothly. For instance, in a working environment, when we think our leader is doing thing not good, or even harmful to us, how can we follow his instruction to do what he want? Similar situation is in the politicol field. As we all know, George Washington became to a successful president of the United States is mainly because of his honesty and frankness. And everyone in America knows his famous cherry tree story in his childhood. On the other hand, if a politician is trying to get power throught plot or cheating. He/she may achieve his/her goal temporarily. However, he/she will forfeit from his/her position in the future, once the truth is debunked. In today's age of information technology and democratic society, any dirty works done by a politician will be detected through an appropriate method soon or later. Nixon's watergate is good enough to support this point of view as an example. Moreover, honesty should also be applied to the diplomatic activities, when the other side also shows its honesty. This will lead the relationship of the two nations to a bevonolent direction, consequentially, improve the speed of cooperation and avoid conflictions as well as war. A very strong example to support this reason is the remarkable achivement made by Ronald Reagan, the former president of USA and Mikhail Gorbachev, the former leader of Soviet Union. When these two important political figures were shaking hands, we already knew, a politicol disaster similar as the world War was gone. How was a happy and excite news to the people who love peace throughout the world. What was behind this? It is honesty. Admittedly, hiding information from enemies is, in contrast, a loyal behavior to the group or nation the leader representing. Leaking out state secret or telling the truth to enemies for some dirty popurses is betraying from his or her country and will definitely result in failures in military or economic competetion of his country. In diplomatic activities, honesty requires mutual agreements. Only if both sides are honest to each other, positive outcomes could be expected. Image, what will happen, if you tell truth of the classified information of your country to a terrists group? To sum up, it is crucial to be honest as an effective leader, although he could sometime hide information or lie the eniemes of the country he representing. ----------------------------------------------- ************************************* This Article is the pure original version, which is finished in 40 min, including copy paste half paragraph from above, and one figure name correction:Mikhail Gorbachev.
  9. 213"Too much emphasis has been placed on the need for students to challenge the assertions of others. In fact, the ability to compromise and work with others—that is, the ability to achieve social harmony—should be a major goal in every school."
  10. Please note that I made this summary based on a sample essay. Disagree The speaker's claim is actually threefold:1) ensuring the survival of large cities and cultural traditions is a proper function of government; 2) government support is needed for the cultural traditions to survive and thrive; 3)cultural traditions are preserved and generated primarily in our large cities. disagree. A. Subsidizing cultural traditions is neither a proper nor a necessary role of government. B. Government cannot possibly play an evenhanded role as cultural patron. C. Large cities do not necessarily serve as the primary breeding ground and sanctuaries for a nation's cultural traditions. Large cities may serve as centers for "high art", a nation's distinct cultural traditions—folk art, crafts, traditional songs, customs and ceremonies-burgeon instead in small towns and rural regions.
  11. issue10 "Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated.")V Which point we need to discuss? Thanks. Disagre
  12. It is impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth all the time. Complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician." i disagree 1.dishonest may do harm to the benefit of the group or country he represents in that the most important vitue of a man or a group is honest and credibility 2. every political leader can choose not to say something or avoid answering some questions in that once they speak it out ,they have to fulfil the commitment.so the behavior of not saying something is just a reflection of prudence. 3.from another point of view, political leaders not to tell the truth is a behavior of fidelity to the group or country they represent
