  1. Justme123... I generally try to use the process of elimination to remove the answers that is not relevant to the questions if i get confused or believe it is hard.... If you take that approach u can eliminate E because... the argument does not present any relation to number of passengers and the airlines ability to recoup the lost revenue..
  2. B... can be eliminated as a general rule to avoid extreme words like Only the Brazilian ash..... E...can be eliminated because the argument does not talks predictablity of rings... only affect of temperature on the rings... Assumptions questions, you pick answers based on the following: Assumptions that 1. server to fill in a logic gap 2. eliminate alternate paths to the same end. 3. eliminate alternate models of cause and affect. 4. establish the feasibility of the premises of the argument... Here we are trying to eliminate that only temperature is the cause of the affect on rings not anything else....
  3. I am not able to relate the arguement with answer E.... Can anyone provide some explanation... Thank You...
  4. After some search i was able to find the link for 1000 CR/1000 SC and 3000 RC from scoretop.... Here is the link...I am assuming it is the same that everyone has mentioned about in this forum... http://www.scoretop.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7607&PN=1
  5. I am also searching for 1000CR can anyone post the link.. Thank you in advance
  6. The irradiation of food kills bacteria and thus retards spoilage. However, it also lowers the nutritional value of many foods. For example, irradiation destroys a significant percentage of whatever vitamin B1 a food may contain. Proponents of irradiation point out that irradiation is no worse in this respect than cooking. However, this fact is either beside the point, since much irradiated food is eaten raw, or else misleading, since _______. Here is my understanding: Premises 1: irradiation of food kills bacteria and thus retards spoilage P2: Irradiation lowers the nutritional value of many foods P3: Irradiation destroys a significant percentage of whatever vitamin B1 a food may contain Conclustion: Proponents of irradiation point out that irradiation is no worse in this respect than cooking This fact is either beside the point, since much irradiated food is eaten raw, or else misleading 1. out of scope 2. It talks about irradiation but not about cooking or both! Ruled out. 3. It does not talk about the effect but order ...Ruled Out 4. No evidence in argument to support it....
  7. To find an Assumption that best supports the wildlife agencies approval of permit to poison the rice despite the locals protest that it threaten certain species of rare migratory birds. CHOICE : A It reduces the concern of locals and support the officials approval as the assumption states that In the region where the red-winged blackbirds stop, they are the first birds to be present in the spring. It also does not assume too much behind the arguement.
  8. P1. Some airlines allegedly reduce fares on certain routes to a level at which they lose money, in order to drive competitors off those routes. P2: However, this method of eliminating competition cannot be profitable in the long run. CON:Once an airline sucessfully implements this method, any attempt to recoup the earlier losses by charging high fares on that route for an extended period would only provide competitors with a better opportunity to undercut the airline's fares Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument? The CHOICE THAT WEAKENS ARGUMENT SHOULD PROVE THAT THE CONCLUSION IS FALSE.... A.. OUT OF SCOPE B...IT WEAKENS THE ARGUMENT BECAUSE THE COMPANY CAN REMOVE THE COMPETITORS BY REDUCING FARE WHENEVER IT NEEDS TO THUS BY MAINTAINING PROFITABLITY.... (my choice) C....OUT OF SCOPE D... OUT OF SCOPE... E...INCREASE OF PASSENGERS WHEN THE PRICE IS REDUCED BELOW PROFITABILITY DOES NOT WEAKEN THE CONCLUSION... IT SUPPORTS THE CONCLUSTION THAT ON LONG RUN IT IS A BAD IDEA... A) In some countries it is not illegal for a company to drive away competitors by selling a product below cost. B) Airline executives generally believe that a company that once underpriced its fares to drive away competitors is very likely to do so again if new competitors emerge. C) As part of promotions designed to attract new customers, airlines sometimes reduce their ticket prices to below an economically sustainable level. D) On deciding to stop serving particular routes, most airlines shift resources to other routes rather than reduce the size of their operations. E) When airlines dramatically reduce their fares on a particular route, the total number of air passengers on that route increases greatly.
  9. Conclusion: installation of the cable car is certain to result in harm to the ruins because it draws lot more tourist... In order to weaken this conclusion we need to identify an answer that goes along that line that cable car prevents the damage when compared to other means of driving as mentioned in 1st sentence and population has nothing to do with it... Choice D: is out because it does not talk anything about tourist population or positive affect of installating CAR. ...but talks about natural causes which is not mentioned in the argument... Hope this makes it clear!
  10. Premises1 : 90 percent of projects cancelled were in districts controlled by opposition parties premises2: critics use the cancellation as desire of president to punish legislative districts controlled by opposition parties. premises 3: Press Secretary: all of the canceled projects had been identified as wasteful in a report written by respected nonpartisan auditors Conclusion:the President's choice was clearly motivated by sound budgetary policy (as determined by nonpartisan auditors), not partisan politics Answer: So that assumption that strengthens the conclusion A. Nothing to do with conclustion as it talks about punishing the districs not the decision about cancelling the project. C. Talks about future project that is not in scope of argument. D. Talks about cost that is not in scope of argument E. This statement weakens the conclusion. B. and also strengthens that president cancelled projects because it was identified as waste
  11. &&&&&&& &&& Live > tenmile &&&&&& Live Carpool &&& &&& 60 * 30/100 = 18 % &&&&&& ? &&&&& 40% Don't car Pool &&& ? &&&&&&& ? Total &&&&&&& &&& 30 % &&&&&&& &&& 70%&&&&&&& &&& 100% Can someone repost in the form of a table with heading on the side and top... I am not sure how i can do it.... I am sure it is going to add confusion to the explanation!... You are requested to find employees who live less than or equal to 10 mile and car pool 18 + x = 40 ==> x = 40 - 18 = 22. If required now you can calculate the remaining values like... Employee who live > tenmile and don't car pool...etc.... Hope this helps to clarify it, instead of further confusing!
  12. Can any one please provide elaborate explanation on CTG1983's explanation for this question... please... I did not understand even a bit.... Thank You....
  13. x >3 or -x > 3 ==> x > 3 or (-1) (-x) > (-1) (3) ==> x> 3 or x You just change the equality sign when you multiply by -ve number on both sides...
  14. I had the same confusion but watch out for "Which of the following is equivalent to (9)x(6)." As per information given (9)x(6)=27x3=81, this is just the value of (9) x (6) as per the question.you need to find in the given choices that comes up with same value ....i.e. 27 x 3 = 81
  15. According to the directions on a can of frozen orange juice concentrate, 1 can of concentrate is to be mixed with 3 cans of water to make orange juice. 17. Thank you jmbamba... I am sorry for reposting it again without checking the forum, with which i tend to have a problem.
  18. Luxsandy thank you for posting the link.....ChhotiAankhe_BadeSapane had the correct answer for the question ...10 I was trying to make my brain function and arrived at the same answer by doing calculation in the following way: t(2) = t(1) -3 = 23 - 3 = 20 and i kept continuing until t(10) = t(9) - 3 = -1 -3 = -4 i.e, n = 10 when value of tn = -4... I know it is time consuming... But incase if the formulae for the progression does not strike during the GMAT then this method might be handy!
  19. All, I was trying to solve GMATPREP questions and not having much success.. I will use this thread to post the questions that i am having trouble with.... Please post some explanation so that i can understand it... 1. In the arithmetic sequence t1, t2, t3....tn, ...t1 = 23 and tn = tn-1 -3 for each n > 1. what is the value of n when tn = -4? How to solve this?
  20. :mad: 1. if (1/5)^m * (1/4)^18 = 1 / (2 * (10)^35), then m = ? 1. 17 2. 18 3. 34. 4. 35 5. 36. How to solve this? What is the answer

  23. A & E can be eliminated because they are bit wordy compared to other choices. B can be eliminated because of the plural not matching with subject extensive experience. D can be eliminated based on unidiomatic "to" at the end. The only choice left is C
