  1. Dear all, I am plaing to enroll the 2007 GRE test, and I hope to prepare it right now. Please suggest me any useful books of the GRE test, or some websites where I can download GRE materials? Thank you so much! Your kind assistance is an urgent to me.
  2. I think I am not quite sure about what the question is asking about. I chose the answer (D), because I thought the 'trip wires' should be above the sheet-web, based on the discription 'above the sheet-web are numerous nearly invisible, single-strand ‘trip wires.’ But the answer is (B). Please help me out. Thanks. “ Sheet-web weavers construct horizontal webs that have the consistency of fine gauze, soft and smooth to the touch. Sheet-webs are generally found lower to the ground among grasses or twigs. The sheet-web itself resembles a small trampoline. Above the sheet-web are numerous nearly invisible, single-strand ‘trip wires.’ A low-flying insect will get knocked out of its flight by one of the trip wires and tumble onto the platform below. Though the sheet-web is not sticky enough to hold the prey, the spider scurries out of hiding and seizes its prize while the dazed bug is scrambling to its feet.” [Question] It can be inferred from the passage that the trip wire used by sheet-web weavers is A) at ground level B) below the sheet-web C) even with the sheet-web D) above the sheet-web

  7. I think it is a good essay. But if you have add more in the conclusion like summing up your reasons, it would nice. Following below is my suggestion. Do marks encourage students to study? Although many people negate the role of marks in a student's study process, I believe that marks are among the most important motives that encourage students to study. Firstly, marks are the crucial standard to show a student's capability. In almost cases, the chance to get admission from a university of a student who has high GPA is bigger than the others. Therefore if a student wants to study in a high quality university in order to warrant for his future life, he will have to study diligently to , (strive)striving for good marks. This means marks help students study harder. Secondly, marks create competitive environment in class. Often students study harder if they have a target such as their friends (to compete for grades). Without marks, there will be nothing to evaluate students, (also) or to show who is better than whom. and also students cannot set a target to try.( confused. Is it easier for students to evaluate themselves?) Consequently, marks are needed to stimulate students to study. Lastly, marks help students' parents know how well their children are doing at school. If a student does not study hard, it often reflects in low marks. Through these marks, his parents will find a solution to the problem such as preventing him from many distracting things like TV or games in time and (make) making him concentrate on his study more. Accordingly, marks encourage students to study indirectly. Basing on these reasons, I think there is no doubt that marks encourage students to study.
  8. Topic 66. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Classmates are a more important influence than parents on a child’s success in school. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. A child’s success in school may depend on several factors, such as good teacher, more extra-curricular activities, or better school educational program. In my opinion, I disagree that classmates are a more important influence than parents on a child’s success in school. Good parents, I believe, is the main reason for a child’s success in school, due to the long period of a child staying at home with their parents, parents’ attention on their child’s homework, and the desire of a child be praised by their parents. First, I believe good parents influence the most in good performance of a child at school, because a child usually spends most of his time at home than at school. Usually, a kid has a shorter time at school, and longer time at home. As a result, a child is more likely to have chances to talk with his parents than his classmates. Besides, a kid loves to imitate, so learning his father’s speech or mimic mother’s tone is likely to happen, as well as reading books. Second, I believe that a child’s successful schoolwork may affect by their parents the most. Many parents may be more nervous then the child himself in the first day of school. Before school, parents are likely to teach their kid ABC or numbers. Besides, unlike classmates, most parents feel respond for their kid’s performance at school, and hope to see higher grades at his academic work. They may ask about his schoolwork, and sometimes even force him to study harder by accompanying reading with him. Classmates, on the other hand, are good company, but not good teacher, for children usually lack self-control most of the time. Most importantly, it is parents, not classmates, that play an important role in a child’s heart. A child may always want to receive his parents’ affection by praising them all the time. Hence, when a child receives praises from his parents about his well-done schoolwork, he is more likely to do it better the next time. In conclusion, I disagree that a child’s classmates influence more than his parents on his good performance at school. I believe that good parenting is more influential for a child’s success in school, for a child usually spend most of his time with his parents, he is likely to receive attention of his schoolwork by his parents, and most importantly a child desires to be praised by his father or mother.
