  1. Well. I hope so! On their web site they also state that early acceptance will be offered to those who apply by the early deadline. So, I think you're right and the Open House in March won't count, afterall. Also because I have already signed and sent the admission offer, so I don't think neither of us could retreat!!!!!! Maurizio
  2. Well, they are paying for my airfair because they have invited me in March at the Open House :) I got the package with FedEx, not regular mail.
  3. Btw, I didn't know one could be accepted without the interview, but I read over their letter and they were only speaking of admission. Moreover, it never referred to the admission as dependent from the interview, so I think they did it because it was an early decision. Anyone can tell me more about this topic? Thanks! Maurizio
  4. Thanks to everybody! I applied to mol biol, but from what I've read the School is not composed by depts., rather by labs. So, you don't need to apply for a specific subject, you can just choose what's more appropriate for your studies, I'd like to do cell/mol biology and bioinformatics. I applied by the early deadline (December 1), the final one was January 1, and received the admission package some days before Christmas, that was an excellent personal present! I have received other offers for interviews, but since the Rockefeller was my first choice and they offered the admission (at least this is what was written in the letter they sent), I declined the other offers. The others sent me e-mails. I live in Italy, maybethey call other applicants if living in the USA.
  5. Hi there, I got in the Rockefeller university in NYC for the PhD program (Science)! I will be going there in about a month to see the campus and talk to professors, I am so thrilled by the idea, and I really like the place :)!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks very much to all of you, guys, Maurizio
  6. ..and actually I think thay ask if you ever filed any form to get the immigrant status. I guess you could have problems if you win the DV lottery and send the documents, because in that case you clearly show your intent. If you only sent the form on-line, I don't think that is enough to say that you really wanted to immigrate. And the "joke" stuff could be a valid reason. Maurizio
  7. 1) D A locomotive is the part of the train which leads all the rest; a tugboat is the same to the barge 2) D A charade is a word put in symbols (if I'm not wrong), so it's like miming a story 3) B Understudy is one who takes over somebody else's duty, as a deputy is somebody who is appointed to take sheriff's duty.
  8. I agree with your explanations, but not with all of them :) 1)I think it's became -> become (did the first ideas... become...); 2)Ok, promise is wrong accoding to me, too; 3)Could it be ...on flow batteries of four?; 4)ok, their -> its; 5)ok for that -> those.
  9. Hi, I would solve it in another way: if you invest exactly half of 10000 at 4% and the other 5000 at 6%, the total interest you get would be 500$, that is the same amount of money you would get if you invested everything at 5% (i.e., the average between the two rates). If you think about the 520$ you earn, you can see that the average is more than 5%, therefore the amount of money invested at 6% must be more than that invested at 4%. This could probably seem longer, but I feel it is quite straightforward to understand.
  10. According to me, the solution is D, nice. Nice can also mean precise, i.e. the opposite of imprecise :)
  11. As far as the second is concerned, I would think that "overdose" is something that overcomes (in a negative way) the prescription, as an "indiscretion" is something that overcomes the convention (common sense) with a negative connotation.

    2 Q

    1. I think C because "there is MUCH reason", the noun is singular here. 2. A is right. B cannot be because you'd need to write "the period OF time" to make it correct. Am I right, somebody else?
  14. I think because an overdose is a condition in which you take more medicines than admitted (or prescribed). In the same way, a convention is a correct social behaviour: if one is indiscrete, s/he somehow overcomes what is socially admitted.
  15. I think Q6 is ok, without changing the verb. I suppose the present is a historic present, that is a present tense that is referred to the description of the past. As far as Q14... I guess it's just a typo for "human nature" and "quite", isn't it? And finally, a last question: isn't Q35 reasonable -> reason? Thanks to everybody, Maurizio
