  1. http://www.nerdtests.com/images/ft/nq.php?val=5663 http://www.nerdtests.com/thetester/images/php/weird_bar.php?high=46&low=54 46% scored higher (more nerdy), and 54% scored lower (less nerdy). What does this mean? Your nerdiness is: Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers. Hahaha.. So I'm lightly nerdy:hmm: yeah, I imagined I would get something like this. I suppose not using UNIX has lowered my percentile :D
  2. Don't worry Ragini, we all commit this sort of mistake:) I have them more often than I wished, hahaha:p I tend to read the questions too fast and miss important information. Let's say that there are certain days on which our mind is somehow blocked:rolleyes:
  3. Hi :) Ragini, I think the clue is that we have to find the largest possible value of the last integer, as Manish pointed out. So there can be only one possibility, so answer is B.

  5. Hi everyone:) The last book I read was "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. The book is rather small and i got so into the story that I finished it in the very same day! Now I want to read "The Zahir" by Coelho as well. I've also been told it's an awesome one. Also, I see here there are many fans of Dan Brown! I have all the books published so far but have only read "Angels and Demons" and "The Da Vinci Code", which I really enjoyed. Another author I enjoyed is Isabel Allende and Jose Luis Sampedro is a great writer, too. Forgot to add that I'm currently reading Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" but at times it bores me:rolleyes: I've read half of the novel already and I don't feel too eager to take the book and read when I have some free time. Anyway, it should be helping me with vocabulary!:p
  6. Hi insuspense! I haven't lived in Santa Monica, but I have visited the area some long time back. Actually, it's a posh area:p Well, all of California is a nice place to live, i think, though expensive.:)
  7. Bscout, we have a right triangle, and we know the ratio of the smallest side to the largest is 2:3. We also know that the area of this triangle is 23. And we are asked to solve for the smallest side >>What is the length of the smallest side?? I agree with manish's answer, I just got the same >> x= sqrt[23/(sqrt 5)], and therefore 2x (smallest side)= 2*sqrt[23/(sqrt 5)] Dipen, you also gave a correct answer, but I think there's no need to solve the squareroots since normally in the GRE test they will give you the correct answer in sqrt terms:)
  8. Hi again! Dipen, I have just checked to make sure I was not mistaken in the meaning of elite in english. I tend to take the meaning in spanish, as the origin of the word is the very same one, and that's not always a good idea:p But as the dictionary says 'Elite' means "the socially superior part of society", "the best of a class " or also "a group of persons who by virtue of position or education exercise much power or influence". it's in contrast with the original concept of "Democracy" in which the people, citizens, are supposed to govern the country.
  9. Yes dipen, I think your bridge is better than the first one I gave. At least after so long someone gave a nice idea here:p And yet, nobody is posting the OA!!! Everyone here is asleep!! I think that for second question even if in reality an elite governs in democracy, the original meaning of the word implies that the people (or the majority) are the ones who govern the country. So it's opposite to 'elite'. The greek root "demos" means 'people'. Hope this helps:)
  10. Hi Michael, I would rather go for B, for the same reason you gave. But I must say my first reaction was choosing A, since the bridge suits perfect, i think. Still have my doubts and no one gave the OA yet:whistle:
  11. I also think answer can only be C. options A and B simply don't fit; same with E. 'Oration' means 'an elaborate discourse delivered in a formal and dignified manner', which could suit here. But "literary oration" just doesn't sound nice to me. Also, as milmerry pointed out, 'grandiloquence' is kind of synonimous to 'oration' and then in the phrase it makes no sense. However, "literary genre" sounds correct and "a very strict form" certainly leaves space for "very little deviation";)
  12. Hi Mukta! It all depends on what score you're required to access your course, your math background and your level of english. It would be tough preparing in just one month but well, nothing is impossible:tup: . Anyway, couldn't you postpone the exam?? Why not giving yourself 2-3 months in total to prepare instead? Have you taken a sample test to check your level? If you haven't, I'd suggest you do it ASAP and evaluate your level and preparation required. Think cool and schedule yourself accordingly;) Best of luck!

I would like to know if my bridges were correct:blush: Analogies are not my strength.. YET! Please gurus, wasleys, some help here!:)
  14. yes ragini, C looks like the correct answer and I had not decided for this one:hmm:
  15. Hi ragini, actually I had my doubts in these two:whistle: . I also thought that for question 15 it could be E but doubted:hmm: . Then, for question 23 I think your answer is correct now that I read it again.. Please kvrishvanth, post the OA:)
  16. Yes, you're right. The angle it's omitted because it's equal in both triangles, but the way it was expressed was a bit confusing. That's why I mentioned it as a mistake. It's clearer to call the angle 'w' or 'k' in the explanation. It's just to avoid 'silly mistakes':p

  18. I agree with bscout:) I have solved the problem like lazy and bscout did in the beginning and also got answer B. Seema, I think your committing a mistake when assuring that: 180=y+z >> You are missing one angle. Only the sum of the three angles of a triangle equals 180. So the sum of y+z will be less than 180º. I think the last explanation given by bscout is perfect. Check it out. It doesn't matter if lines are parallel or not, there's enough information in the image to solve through basic properties of triangles.
  19. Had also thought the correct answer was C  . Had not identified an analogy in Abysmal : low . Actually, I'm having lots of trouble with analogies
  20. Hi mishum & bscout, I am aware that this is not the most correct way to approach a result to a geometry problem, but it may be faster if we think that a triangle which sides are 5, 12 and 13 is a right triangle (the interior angle opposite the largest side values exactly 90º; see Barron's). Then, if one of the sides -except the hypotenuse- is smaller, the interior angle opposite the largest side(hypotenuse) should be greater than 90º. Don't know if this will help, but that was my logical approach:hmm:
  21. Hi Julio!! I'm looking forward to that thread on probability questions. I am now studying probability/statistics for the GRE, and it will help me lots:) Great idea!!
  22. Thanks for explaining, charanya:) But I have a question: if the problem says less and greater than 100, I also think that above a hundred we must find more numbers that fit the condition given. So, why is everybody solving just less than 100??:hmm:
  23. Can anybody explain how to solve this problem, please??
  24. Hi everybody! Bscout, the book Varun is suggesting is "Word Power Made Easy" by Norman Lewis. It's a great source to learn loads of vocabulary in a short period of time; and it's enjoyable too.;) Personally, I found it very useful and in no time I was deducing the meaning of romance words correctly:p
  25. I was also doubting between A and E, but I think the most suitable option is E. I agree with that bridge, Milmerry. Please, gurus, some help here! is E the correct answer??
