  1. Overall rankings aren't very useful... only subfield rankings really matter in my opinion. Does USNews do econ subfield grad rankings?
  2. yup it's my dream school. i got the phone call, then the email, and got the letter in hand when i went to the open house. it's an amazing place. :)
  3. I also got in to Syracuse's econ Ph.D. program. You'll love it if you're interested in one of their subfields - trade, urban, and there are two others that I can't remember off the top of my head. Are you going to the visit weekend next week? I'll be there. IM VBROOKSUTK if you want to chat about it! And congrats.
  4. Oh and I need to update my avatar. Rejected to Texas and Brandeis, admitted to Nebraska, Syracuse and Kentucky; waiting on Georgia and UIUC...
  5. I was accepted to Maxwell's econ Ph.D. program and will be going up there next week (23rd-25th) for the Maxwell open house.:)
  6. Just as a heads up, I'm from Nashville, Tennessee and I didn't apply to Vanderbilt's PhD Econ simply because of the things I've heard about their program and how they treat their students and faculty. Funding is extremely competitive, and Vandy grad students in general have a very competitive, every-man-for-himself mentality. Teachers compete for tenure track positions, as well. The grad students that I've met from the PhD econ program are exhausted and embittered about the whole process, and I decided to do myself a favor and stay away from it, even though it's highly ranked and right smack dab at home.
  7. do you know if they were emailed or if it showed up on their online application? thanks!
  8. With so many random threads running around, I thought we could all post our acceptances [clap] and rejections  here for peace of mind, general information, etc. I haven't heard anything yet  from: Brandeis Georgia Illinois (Urbana Champaign) Kentucky Nebraska (Lincoln) Texas (Austin) Thanks. Glad to have fellow econ buddies on here!
  9. That's a huge list of places that you applied to. My $8/hr internship didn't really allow for even the 7 that I applied to, but yay debt!!! If I don't get in, I'm going to work for a year to save up money for next year's applications. Woohoo! Best of luck :)
  10. have done that mainly because I felt that the NYU undergrad program was just not challenging enough for me. I go to a state U, and although I am in a relatively challenging program, many people feel bored with the curriculum. I picked up a minor and took advantage of scholarships to pay for a study abroad experience. I'll graduate at 21 instead of 20, and I understand the whole age thing... I've been at a marketing job for quite a while, and sometimes it's hard to get the respect of my coworkers. Frankly, starting a Ph.D. at 21 will be a bit unnerving.
  11. I'll probably get some flack because I don't look like a lot of people on this forum as far as stats are concerned :notworthy but whatever. I'm happy. GPA 3.61/4.00 [clap] in Business Adminstration (Econ), minor in Latin American Studies. From University of Tennessee, Knoxville - TN's flagship giant state U. GRE 520V/750Q/5.5W (so basically I don't use big words but I can write well? :) Study abroad: universidad de puerto rico, 1 semester [banana] 3.5 year marketing internship Entrepreneur, 2 small businesses Econ classes: intermediate macro/micro, monetary, mathematical econ, econ development, international econ, firm in the global context, regional and urban econ, econometrics Mathish classes: calc 1 and 2, linear algebra, math econ, corporate finance, financial accounting, managerial accounting, statistics, econometrics I've applied to programs at: Brandeis-Internat'l Econ & Finance) Georgia-Econ Kentucky-Econ Texas-Econ Illinois (UC) - Econ Nebraska (Lincoln) - Econ Syracuse - Econ If I do not get into econ grad school, I will be applying for either a Ph.D. in business admin or my MBA next year. Since my degree is actually in business administration, that'd be OK by me but econ really is my first choice. I'll just get a job locally and save some cash in the interim. But I'm hoping to get in! Haven't heard from anyone yet... no news is good news, right? I'm hoping my locale (Tennessee) and gender (female) will help me out in the diversity aspect. Whee. Best of luck to everyone!:grad:
  12. Yay, congrats on being accepted!!! I can't wait to hear from my schools. For any other econ folks, I've applied to: Syracuse U Brandeis U (IE+F) U Nebraska U Illinois U Georgia U Kentucky U Texas And no responses yet... but deadlines were Jan 15th - Feb 10 (darn Syracuse!! that's my top choice!)
