  1. Hello Everybody Can anyone please tell me what is this % Below column in Official GRE Score? Does it mean we are among those many people? or does it mean those many percent people are below us? thanks, Tyro
  2. 65. "People have been so encouraged by society to focus on apparent differences that they fail to see meaningful similarities among ideas, individuals, and groups." [dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance] The author states that people have been so encouraged by society to focus on apparent differences that they fail to see meaningful similarities among ideas, individuals and groups. I partially agree with the statement. We are living in the world of competition. Here everyone wants to prove him or herself different from others to attract the attention of people and eventually to succeed. Society plays the main role in this. It encourages the people to focus on differences than similarities. People want different ideas and new things everyday. At such front it is difficult to invent something new everyday. So people copy others ideas and put them forward as their own. But to show themselves different from others they have to exaggerate the differences so that other people of society will consider them different. For example there are so many soft drink companies in market. So if Coca cola wants to launch a new soft drink then they have to focus on advertising it by showing how it is different from other products. Otherwise people will not buy it thinking that it is same as other products. But while focusing on differences people are not so fool that they fail to see meaningful similarities among ideas, individuals and groups. They do notice the similarities also, for instance Pablo Picasso and George Braque's cubism paintings. People found Picasso and Braque's cubism slightly different but while noticing the differences they also noticed the similarities between their styles of paintings. Otherwise critics would not have mentioned that Picasso and Braque have similarity in cubism. However it is society, which makes us see the differences between different groups or different religions. Due to which people fail to see the meaningful similarities between ideas of different religions. This sometimes results into clashes between two religions. For example society made the Hindu's and Muslim's of Hindustan (Earlier name of India) to feel that they are different from each other and it lead to division of the Hindustan into two countries India and Pakistan. And people of both countries instead of seeing similarities between both religions focusing on differences and still fighting with each other, even after fifty years of independence. Recapitulating, it is due to today's competing world society encourage people to focus on apparent differences. But people are intelligent enough to see similarities also. But when it comes to different groups and different religions people focus more on differences and fail to see meaningful similarities between ideas of those groups or religions.

  4. Hello, My Exam date is after 7 days. Can anyone please rate my essay? [dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance][dance] [blue]Author states that the Computer Chip Factories in Eliot Valley Region are causing water pollution and low water levels in the reservoirs and lakes. But to provide his statement he has not provided sufficient evidence. The first assumption author has made is water pollution is worse in the Eliot Valley Region because of the Computer Chip Factories. To support his statement he says that recent study shows the water pollution is worse than any other parts of country. But he is not stating whether the study covers the causes of water pollution or not. The study can be made only to find out the water pollution level. Unless the study chows the cause of water pollution is computer chip factory the author's statement that water pollution is caused due to computer chip factory is groundless. The second assumption author makes is that due to the use of large amount of water by computer chip industries the water levels are low in the lakes and reservoirs. But the reason of low water levels can be insufficient rainfall in last few years. Author has not mentioned of any study made to find out reasons of the low levels of water in lake and reservoirs. Unless such study is conducted the statement the water levels low because of large use water by computer chip industries remains baseless. Lastly author states that by limiting the amount of water supply to computer chip industry they can improve the quality of water. But by limiting the amount of water to the computer chip factories can increase the levels of water in lakes and reservoirs. How is that going to improve the quality of water? Author has not provided any cause-to-effect relationship to prove his statement that limiting the amount of water to factories will improve the quality of water. In summation, author should provide the evidence that study is conducted to find out the causes of water pollution and study shows that water pollution is worse in Eliot Valley region than any other part of country due to computer chip factories. Also to strengthen his argument that water levels are low because of large amount of water usage by computer chip factory he should provide the study conducted. Moreover he should provide the cause and effect relationship that how limiting the quantity of water supply to computer chip factories going to improve quality of water. [/dance]

Such achievements have made our life easier to live than earlier. But sometimes some achievements have resulted into greatest discontent. The achievements, which are beneficial to everybody or to greater part of society has rarely caused any discontent, for example the achievement of World Wide Web. This achievement has more advantages and scarcely any disadvantages. It has made the communication between people fast and cost of such communication is affordable by almost all the society. Though sometimes the virus spread through the Internet cause discontent, it is negligible as compared to the advantages of it. Also the modern technology has made available many anti-virus softwares, which can protect our computers from the virus. The other examples of beneficial achievements we can see are telephone, aeroplane, different automatic equipments which can do the work of human being, automobiles etc. All these achievements have more beneficial results and hardly any disadvantages. Some of the individual achievements have been resulted into beneficial results for society, for example achievement of Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa worked for the poor and orphan children of slums of Calcutta. Her achievement has changed life of many poor children and thus has benefited the society. No one will say that this individual achievement has caused any discontent. However the political achievements cannot always be advantageous for everybody in the society. It is difficult to satisfy the whole nation at one time for the political leaders. Sometimes they have to take the decisions to achieve something. People may or may not be happy with such results. If people do not like the decisions of political leaders then the achievements caused by those decisions can result into discontent. For example the present Iraq and US war. Many of the US citizens were against the war. But Bush administration decided to go for war. They achieved success in banishing the Saddam Hussein from Iraq. But still people are discussing that government should not have gone for war instead they should have concentrated on internal problems like declining economical situation. Many people are unsatisfied with this achievement of Bush administration. It has resulted into greatest discontent among the citizens of United States. Sometimes the achievement, which can cause harm by misusing it, can result into greatest discontent. For example after the invention of nuclear weapons, when those were used on Hiroshima, the whole world mourned for the people of Hiroshima. The achievement of invention of nuclear weapons resulted into disaster than into energy source. It resulted into discontent among people of the whole world. Though all the achievement of society does not result into greatest discontent some of them may result into discontent. The achievements if misused then it may result into discontent. Also sometimes political achievements cannot make happy the people of the nation and can result into discontent.

  8. I am not satisfied with my essay because I could not think of any good points or any examples. Can anybody give me any suggestions regarding it? I have posted it here. 195 The goal of politics should not be the pursuit of an ideal, but rather the search for common ground and reasonable consensus. Author has stated that the goal of politics should not be pursuit of an ideal, but rather the search for common ground and reasonable consensus. But I think the goal of politics should be both to pursuit ideal as well as search for common ground and reasonable consensus. Everybody plays politics; it may be at different levels like at home or office or may be at state level or at national level or at international levels. Ordinary people will play in their everyday life while political leaders will play to show them as ideals and so to get more votes from public. But why do we need play politics? The first reason is; it is not possible to make happy everyone at one time. The decision, which we take, can be beneficial for few but it can be detrimental for others. In such situation those for whom it is beneficial will become happy while the others will become sad. At this time one should find out a moderate solution, which will be beneficial for everybody. Is it possible always? No. Then we play politics, we take a decision, which we consider is most favorable and pretend that we are not hurting anybody. Take an example of our everyday life. Suppose you are a development manager in a software company. Two software professionals, equally competent, report to you. Some new software has come. Company wants you to select one of those two professionals, so that they can send him abroad for training on new software. You know both software professionals are equally capable, talented. If you select one the other may think that you are in favor of former. Here you have to play politics to take a decision, which will not hurt any of the professionals. Because the hurt professional may leave the company thinking that he is not getting good opportunities and company will loose one very important resource. So in such cases the goal of the politics should be to search for common ground and reasonable consensus. However for politicians the goal of politics should be to pursuit ideal so that they can get more votes form public. Political leaders play politics to show themselves as ideals. People look at the political leaders as their ideals. People are always interested in the life of politicians. At such time if the political leader behaves eccentrically then it makes great impact on his career. To avoid this they have to play politics to show themselves as ideals. Moreover the followers of political leaders closely follow them in their behavior and also in their decision-making ways. So if a politician wants his followers to be good and ideals then he has to pursuit ideal. In summation, the goal of politics should be both to pursuit ideal as well as search for common ground and reasonable consensus. For different people the goal can be different.
  9. I think here politics is the government related politics. Or is it the everyday life's politics which people face in offices or in society? Any suggestions about this??? thanks, Tyro
  10. I have not yet taken my GRE but still I am commenting on your essay. Munni your essay is good in terms of ideas. but you have to properly arrange the paragraphs and the flow of essay. You are writing paragraphs of one line. One more thing you have mentioned dandi march etc about gandhi. but who will understand it. So do not mentioned such petty details. Try to mention something which the ETS writers will know. Also try to write some good conclusion. Your conclusion sounds weak. Thanks, Tyro

  13. Hello I think you have stressed on saying that there is truth in history. while you should choose wheather exploring history is objective pursuit or creative enterprise. Here I think one should understadn the difference between objective pursuit and creative enterprise. What I felt is Objective Pursuit - Tell objective (Remember what is subjective and objective. subjective will be biiiiigggg theory and objective will be points.) Creative Enterprise - Telling biiiiiigggg interesting story and not the objective details of history Any comments please whether I construe it correctly or not. Thanks, Tyro
  14. Hello Sonali, Here are comments from me. (In Red) You are saying history not only useful for daily life but gives inspiration and lessons of life. Which I think is one and the same. Thanks, Tyro
