  1. "A" it is and well explained by lsr , no lacunae left in his explanation.
  2. pls folks - i really need help on this one ... why can't it be "E", what if the painter changed his style - in that case the above statements would not hold valid.
  3. "E" it is . In Except question like the one above , either u have to find an answer that provides least explanation or an answer which is not in the context of the question.
  4. i choose "D" but on second reading i realize it is certainly "A". "D" is not directly addressed bu the question and it is a very good trap bcos like many people would fall for it .
  5. "A" it is . "C" - it says that old and sick geese would be saved from foxes but for corporate helicopters this old and sick geese ( immobile) is not a problem ; the real prob is young , agile and active geese.
  6. the answer is clear "A". the structure is microscopic and so it is very difficult for the researchers to decipher if they have stimulated only the VNO.
  7. "A" - arrived at it by POE but i am sure , i am missing something .
  8. i also choose the wrong answer but yes , it should be "D". the parts of the stimuls and the answer should be analogous.
  9. i choose "A" but after OA , i am completely convinced with the answer. in case someone still has a doubt - i'll put it this way........ A is best bcos ....A is better than B , which is also the best.
  10. "B" it is . A. Law that prohibit or permit actions solely on the basis of psychological states should not be part of the legal system. this is out of scope , the argument deals not with annulling or abrogating a law but with mitigating the punishment . secondly the statement says that punishment to be lessened on basis of objectives and objectives/motives are different from psychological states. B. It is better to err on the side of overly sever punishment than to err on the side of overly lenient punishment. this supports bcos the statement says that motives are a matter of guess or conjecture and this implies that while guessing a judge might guess right or wrong leading to erroneous decisions about severity and so to be on the safe side it is allright to grant stringent punishment rather than provide relaxation to convicts . C. The legal permissibility of actions should depend on the perceivable consequences of those actions. The statement talks about visible and tangible onjectives and not about perceptions . D. No law that cannot be enforced should be enacted. clearly out of scope - the question does not deal with enforcing and enacting . E. A legal system that, if adopted, would have disastrous consequences ought not be adopted. a very extreme statement .
  11. "D" it is but the explanation (test magic ) given by lego life is just awesome
  12. "A" it is . "D" and "E" are straight away wrong bcos the subject of the sentence is scholars and not native american litreatures.
  13. i guess Gmat rock says it very well , thus is not a pronoun and its usage here implies that is used as a pronoun . thanks Gmat rock - finally i am convinced that answer is "D"
  14. The answer is "C". (A) that any chemical banned on medical grounds in the United States be prohibited from sale to other countries. This is a sunjunctive structure , which indicates that it is not a real event , implying an incorrect meaning . (B) that any chemical be prohibited from sale to other countries that was banned on medical grounds in the United States © prohibiting the sale to other countries of any chemical banned on medical grounds in the United States - participle form of verb brings out cause and effect relationship . also a rule - if a legal term is used as object in the sentence , it is followed by a participle verb form. legal terms such as - ordinance , bill , law , decree , command . (D) prohibiting that any chemical banned on medical grounds in the United States is sold to other countries - that incorrectly refers to prohibiting (E) that any chemical banned in the United States on medical grounds is prohibited from being sold to other countries.
  15. "A" it is . in my opinion i guess the culprit is not the word "resulting " but the main trouble is "costing " , we can use gerund in two cases when verb is converted to noun - running is a good exercise and in the above case we don't need gerund. secondly we use "ing " to show cause and effect relationship. which is certainly not the case above - hence "costing " is incorrect , logically also "cost" can never have a action of continuity.
  16. arrived at "C" by POE , and none other than "C" is correct. A. while earlier the Bodleian has been -while is for bringing out the contrast. B. where the Bodleian earlier is - "where" is a place referent . C. just as earlier the Bodleian had been - just as is the correct comparative conjunction and secondly "had been " is the correct verb used. D. as the earlier Bodleian has been - as is used for comparing actions and "has been " is not correct bcos the first part of the sentence uses auxillary verb "was". E. the Bodleian earlier being - as usual , being is a passive xonstruction and almost always wrong on GMAT.
  17. it should be "E" (A) Not every development proposal opposed in recent years by these so-called environmentalists was opposed because they believed it to pose a threat to the environment. if we take this consideration , it infact weakens the argument , even if 20% of the cases were opposed were due to their genuine concerns means that they are not opposed to development but are genuinely worried about env. (B) People whose real agenda is to block development wherever it is proposed always try to disguise their true motives. if we consider this , though this partially supports the above conclusion but not completely , it does not state that they disguise their true objectives by env concerns . © Anyone who opposes unrestricted development is an opponent of progress. it is a very vague statement . (D) The council has no reason to object to the proposed Golden Lake Development other than concern about the development’s effect on bird-migration patterns.this weakens the conclusion. (E) When people say that they oppose a development project solely on environmental grounds, their real concern almost always lies elsewhere.this i believe is the correct choice , bcos it creates a universal concept that when people oppose progress on env grounds their real concern is always something else.
  18. why can't the answer for second question be "B". the incidence of diseases other than heart disoreders increase with increasing average age but the incidence of heart remains the same and this might lead to reshuffling of numbers.
  19. for the first question - in my opinion the answer should be "B". Though "D" sounds more logical but i guess the tone of statement suggests that this experiment will basically help scientists conclude that birds are senstive to electricity and further experiements will prove whether they use electromagnetic fields to trace their way. for second it should be "C". The premise is stated as conclusion - Study is not good --- so hopeless ----and bcos it is hopeless hence not good. A drug is best ----so effective ----a drug is effective and so is best.
  20. missed the nuance in the above argument , that's why my books mention that special words / qualifier like most , all , almost , generally , typically , some , none are important and very central to understanding the argument.
  21. "D" it is and in all the other choices there is either an incorrect reference to either world or change in the meaning bcos of incorrect structures.
