  1. Fox jeans regularly sell for $15 a pair and Pony jeans regularly sell for $18 a pair. During a sale these regular unit prices are discounted at different rates so that a total of $9 is saved by purchasing 5 pairs of jeans: 3 pairs of Fox jeans and 2 pairs of Pony jeans. If the sum of the two discounts rates is 22 percent, what is the discount rate on Pony jeans? (A) 9% (B) 10% © 11% (D) 12% (E) 15%
  2. Good topic. Can you also provde the OA (with no spoiler) so that we can at least check our answers.
  3. Yes you can. GMAT test center will need your Indian passport (as your picture iD). There is nothing significant about visa here. Pretty much anyone in any country can write the exam as long as they are legally allowed to be in that country. Good luck
  4. Does someone have OA? E to me. Seems like we are dividied on A or E.
  5. it seems like B to me?? (not sure why passive form can make the differnce between A and B)? Anyone?
  6. My knowledge is A. "punters" PLease help me learn, if my logic/reasoning is wrong...
  7. I have no clue about Q2. I guessed E. But it was more random based on the sound and luck. Anyone explain Q2? It does have a pronoun "her" towards the end. How do we deal with it in the choices? HOw can it reprensent Emily (and not her letters)?
  8. IMHO Q1 is A. WHat is OA? BTW, can you please underline the Q - it helps to check if we are solving in time. My understanding.... it is all about the "making" phrase and "established" are connected to eachother and the subject.
  9. I dont get it either (totally lost)... Can someone volunteer? Is the subject here "Cleveland" or "Communities"??? Why is it "are" or plural? Also shouldn't "look-ing" and "attract-ing" be parallel? Thanks in Advance.
  10. Credit: OWL at Purdue University: Count and Noncount Nouns (with Plurals, Articles, and Quantity Words) The following chart shows which quantity words go with which kinds of nouns. Note that quantity words can be used in combinations such as many more, many fewer, much more, and much less, any of which can be preceded by how to form questions or relative clauses. Negatives like not and no can also be applied to many of these terms. much, less, little, a little, very little some, any, most, more, all, a lot of, no, none of the many, both, several, few/fewer/fewest, a few, one of the, a couple of each, every, any, one Count singular XX Count plural XX XX Noncount XX XX Examples: Count Singular: I practice every day. I'd like one donut, please. Count Plural: Can I have some chips? She has a lot of books, and many are autographed. I have fewer pencils than you. Noncount: Can I have some water? She has a lot of strength, and much is due to her upbringing. I have less courage than you. (seems like the chart does not show up on the post properly look at the link directly)
  11. Thanks 1234 for the explaination - you made me "learn" from a mistake. I was in a hurry and choose the other side of the 3-2 split confusing "was banked" with parallel to "was conical" :(
  12. I also went with B like eff_factor. But "learnt" from you its D. ANy one has an explaination on why "has control" is better than "take control"?
  13. I went with C too. Seems like it is very well discussed here already. I was tempted by D though.
  14. I picked A too. But when i was typing however "begin to halt" is kind of tempting to look at D as the answer - not sure i am over anaylzing??? OA?
  15. B? My understading is that "stabilize" must be parallel to "to increase" and in addition "such an extraction level " is verbous. OA?
  16. The common cold, the most familiar form of virus, afflicts most people a few times a year, who collectively lose millions of workdays each year, and they cost the nation billions in medical expenses and lost work time. (A) year, and they cost the nation billions in medical expenses and lost (B) year and thus cost the nation billions in medical expenses and lost © year, so as to cost the nation billions in medical expenses and lost (D) year that costs the nation billions in lost medical expenses and (E) year, which thus cost the nation billions in lost medical expenses and Can someone explain why the other choices are wrong?
  17. Hate to reply to my own thread with a solution (anyways).. To save time i am plagrizing this reply Iwith reference to it.. GMAT PREP Percentage DS Let x be the no of males in the college Let y be the no of females in the college To find x/x+y 1) From statement 1 we know .33x and .20y out of x and y transferred from another college. We cant find x+y or x/x+y Insufficient 2) .25(x+y) transferred from other college. We cant find x/x+y with just this Insufficient From 1) and 2) we know .33x+.20y = .25(x+y) i got stuck with this eqn (may be there is a better way .. but this was mine) 33x+20y=25x+25y 33x=25x+5y 13x = 5(x+y)
  18. What fraction of this year's graduating students at a certain college are males? 1) Of this year's graduating students, 33% of the males and 20% of the females transferred from another college. 2) Of this year's graduating students, 25% transferred from another college. Can you provide the solution. I get only one eqn and not sure how to proceed to make the fraction.
  19. Just a suggestion: WHy do you use an attachment? Not many people can read it :(
  20. OA please. I fell for A - but C seems to be right (as Rising Sun mentions it).
  21. A is good (for reasons Shooter provides) and also A. in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, thereby boosting. B. In converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand will be stimulated because of increasing supply and lowering prices, which boost. Wrong usage of 'which' Also makes it look like passive - but tha aint an error C. Of converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, which boosts. Wrong usage of 'which' "of converting..) D. Of harvested trees being converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand, because it will increase supply and lower prices, thereby boosting. 'being' gives meaning that it is undergoing E. When harvested trees are converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand will be stimulated because of increasing supplyand lowering prices, which boost. Wrong usage of 'which'
  22. I don't know how long this one took for me (hope it was less than 1.5 mts) (3+X) (.65) = (0.9 + X) 1.95 + 0.65X = 0.9 + X 2.85 = 0.35 X 285/35 = X = 57/7 ~= 8+ Not a choice. So E. (Not sure if they give thie type of stuff "none of the above choice on real GMAT - what is the source). If it were a GMAT thing, i doubt there was a faster way to reach None of the above even faster
