  1. If 2 things are selected from a list, how do we decide whether to use 1. nc2 or 2. nc1 * (n-1)c1 = nc2 * 2 For example, I encountered a problem where the question was- Probability that one can select 2 items from (x-y), (x+y), (5x-y) and (x+5y) such that the product is of the form x^2-(by)^2 I used the wrong operation.. Thx..
  2. If y >= 0, what is x. (1) |x-3| >= y (2) |x-3|
  3. If p and n are positive integers and p > n, what is the remainder when p^2 - n^2 is divided by 15 ? (1) The remainder when p + n is divided by 5 is 1. (2) The remainder when p - n is divided by 3 is 1
  4. B.. no object in both the sentences.
  5. D is no good either. Even if other food habits are different, the fact remains that one of the main reasons for increase in BP is excessive consumption of salt. The question to ask here is, for a guy who stays in the rain forest (where salt consumption is low) and then moves to a city with increase in age, does the increase in BP occur due to the increase in salt cnsumption? Different people have a diff. genetic makeup and for each individual the genes may trigger/behave differently. If genes vary, we cannot compare Person X (who stayed in rain-forest and then moved to a city where his/her BP went up) with Person Y (who lived all his life in City without any increase in BP) and make a conclusion that it was because of the high salt consumption in city, the BP of Person X went up.. Thx
  6. here limitation = restriction non countable thx
  7. prefer E to A.. 'Aspiring more' okay or 'aspiring for more' is fine ''aspire more than' is better
  8. My take - 'limited' - countable/not countable 'limitations' - not countable/countable Everyone has his/her own limitations - not countable I have more limitations than you have - not countable There are many limitations of the new system - countable (used with a countable item) I approve of fewer limitations - countable Limited entry to the exhibition; access to the auditorium was limited to the VIPs - not countable (in the second sentence, 'limited' is used as restricted) We have a limited number of resources/seats - countable (when used with a coutable item)
  9. I selected A because the sentence is grammatically correct. However, I see that 'they' clearly refers to school and that might be wrong.. I considered 'they' to reflect the opinion of the people working in the school (including teachers) But now I feel, C is better and clear.. Thx
