  1. The general availability of high-quality electronic scanners and color printers for computers has made the counterfeiting of checks much easier. In order to deter such counterfeiting, several banks plan to issue to their corporate customers checks that contain dots too small to be accurately duplicated by any electronic scanner currently available; when such checks are scanned and printed, the dots seem to blend together in such a way that the word "VOID" appears on the check A questionable assumption of the plan is that A. in the territory served by the banks the proportion of counterfeit checks that are made using electronic scanners has remained approximately constant over the past few years B. most counterfeiters who use electronic scanners counterfeit checks only for relatively large amounts of money C. the smallest dots on the proposed checks cannot be distinguished visually except under strong magnification D. most corporations served by these banks will not have to pay more for the new checks than for traditional checks E. the size of the smallest dots that generally available electronic scanners are able to reproduce accurately will not decrease significantly in the near future. The OA will follow later.
  2. Pal, I don't think so. Actually, we don't have to INFER, let alone INFER VERY FAR in this question. The question states that the students who feel that they are not succeeding in high school often drop out before graduating and go to work. And the answer choice A directly connects this fact with another fact which is "There was a recession that caused a high level of unemployment in the city".
  3. For the sake of clarity, the question should be underlined as follows Thomas Eakins' powerful style and his choices of subject--the advances in modern surgery, the discipline of sport, the strains of individuals in tension with society or even with themselves--was as disturbing to his own time as it is compelling for ours. (A) was as disturbing to his own time as it is (B) were as disturbing to his own time as they are © has been as disturbing in his own time as they are (D) had been as disturbing in his own time as it was (E) have been as disturbing in his own time as Nice explanation as always 12rk34 :)
  4. effective_factor is definitely right. Just one more basic point. "is in reference" is more wordy than "refers". The first lesson in Manhattan GMAT SC is Brevity. Another ex: "differ over" is always better than "have differences over"...
  5. Should be C. "excepting for" in D slightly makes "the English language" kinda similar/the same to "the domains of administration and teaching"
  6. Kinda same question in OG10 (Q.113) Visitors to the park have often looked up into the leafy canopy and saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs hang like socks on a clothesline. (A) saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs hang (B) saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs were hanging © saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, with arms and legs hanging (D) seen monkeys sleeping on the branches, with arms and legs hanging (E) seen monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs have hung
  7. Good explanation, rajatmeh:)
  8. Please find Erin's explanation here http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-critical-reasoning/1297-influenza-vaccine.html
  9. Agree with OA. In E, the first part, "Regular consumption of red wine is declining dramatically among young adults in France", explains why "The difference in regular red-wine consumption has been narrowing" while the second part, "and heart disease typically does not manifest itself until middle age", is the reason why "no similar convergence in heart-disease rates has occurred".
  10. In general, GMAPPrep's score is the real indicator for your result. In this case, it's likely that you freaked out at the test, and hence couldn't get where you want to be. Confidence and calmness are critical in GMAT test. Just take your time and retake it man. Don't be down. I do believe that you're gonna get the score you want next time.
  11. Where did you get this OA, sunirs?
  12. These questions are from LSAT's tests in 1000CR. The OAs are D,A,A respectively.
  13. Damn man. 700 is an awesome score. You can think of top b-schools with that score. Congrats! P/S: BTW, if you're in Thailand, maybe I can see you some day . I'm in Vietnam ;)
