  1. The United States government uses only a household’s cash income before taxes to determine whether that household falls below the poverty line in a given year; capital gains, non-cash government benefits, and tax credits are not included. However, yearly cash income is not a fool-proof measure of a given household’s disposable income. For example, retirees who live off of capital gains from an extensive portfolio could earn hundreds of thousands of dollars, yet be classified by the government as living in “poverty” because this income is not included in the calculation. Which of the following, if true, validates the contention that the government’s calculation methods must be altered in order to provide statistics that measure true poverty? A• For more than 99% of those classified as living in poverty, yearly cash income comprises the vast majority of each household’s disposable income. B. While the government’s calculation method indicated a 12.5% poverty rate in 2003, the same calculation method indicated anywhere from a 9% to a 16% poverty rate during the preceding decade. C. Most established research studies conducted by the private sector indicate that the number of people truly living in poverty in the U.S. is less than that indicated by the government’s calculation method. D. Several prominent economists endorse an alternate calculation method which incorporates all income, not just cash income, and adjusts for taxes paid and other core expenses. E• The government’s calculation method also erroneously counts those who do not earn income in a given year but who have substantial assets on which to live during that year. Why D cannot be the answer
  2. Is x/3 + 3/x > 2? (1) x (2) x > 1 OA is Why A should not be the answer? as the equation comes to (x - 3)^2 > 0
  3. Hi! I reside in Mayur Vihar Phase III and going to appear in GMAT but in May/June. However we may form a study group. We may discuss topics and problems. If you can include me in your study group, please revert back. Thank you.
  4. If "it" means 'oval office' then the meaning og the sentence will be "the White House counsel, did not know it (the oval office) existed". Whether it is right?
  5. Yes, please tell why A is wrong. In A the use of pst indefinite is better than the use of past perect in A. Please
  6. Why not B. Argument says that 'half of the individuals polled voted for candidates far to one end of the political spectrum'. It may mean that another half has voted for candidates far to another end. My pick is B. In my view B and E are contenders and E seems loose.
  7. Congrats! 700 is not bad score, after all you are in 700 Club. I also need some tips for verbal and I want to know what is your GPrep score before exam. In real exam the level is same or high?
  8. Yes B is right. and because the truth is stated simple present tense is preferable.
  9. The Federal Reserve announcement said that growth had accelerated after slowing in the second quarter and that the policy makers remain concerned about the prospects of inflation, even though there are few signs of higher energy prices driving up the cost of other goods so far. •A. that growth had accelerated after slowing in the second quarter and that the policy makers remain concerned about the prospects of inflation, even though there are few •B. growth had accelerated after slowing in the second quarter and that the policy makers remain concerned about the prospects of inflation, even though there are few •. that growth had accelerated after slowing in the second quarter and the policy makers remain concerned about the prospects of inflation, even though there are little • D.growth had accelerated after slowing in the second quarter and the policy makers remain concerned about the prospects of inflation, even though there are little •E. that growth accelerated after slowing in the second quarter and that the policy makers remain concerned about the prospects of inflation, even though there are few
  10. The answer must be E. We have to choose the point that will favour one of the two plans. C says that Penalties will be levied who fail to sort trash correctly. This applies to both the plan as in both plan residents will sort recyclable trash. E says that Accumulated trash for two weeks will attract rodents and then it is clear that Plan 2 is preferable because trash will be collected twice a week. I will be with E
  11. The only option which maintain parallelism are B and C. B is out due to the use of 'which' so the answer should be C. 'like an expert' and 'as an expert does' both are right.
