  1. Calorie restriction produces similar results in humans as it does in rats and mice. Goes beyond scope, as premise talks about moderately overweight individuals. Humans who reduce their calorie intake by at least 25 percent on a long-term basis will live longer than they would have had they not done so. Goes beyond scope, as premise talks about moderately overweight individuals. Calorie intake is directly correlated to insulin level in moderately overweight individuals. Too narrow in scope, as premise talks about "restrictive calorie diet" that means low calorie BUT HIGH IN NUTRIENTS. Individuals with low insulin levels are healthier than individuals with high insulin levels. Goes beyond scope, as premise talks about moderately overweight individuals. Individuals with low insulin levels also covers individuals who are suffering from malnutrition. Some individuals in the study reduced their calorie intake by more than 25 percent. CORRECT. Some Individuals means at least ONE has reduced calorie intake level by more than 25%. Same is written in premises.
  2. IMO (A) too. (B) Beyond the scope, because here we are talking about appeal to the audience in case of endorsement and area of expertise. © Goes beyond the scope. (D) Goes against the argument. (E) Goes beyond the scope.
  3. IMO (A) too. (B) Beyond the scope, because here we are talking about appeal to the audience in case of endorsement and area of expertise. © Goes beyond the scope. (D) Goes against the argument. (E) Goes beyond the scope.
  4. I am not sure whether the above question is correct. Correct IDIOM is: "as many as" or "as many.... as". That left choices (D) and (E) only. (D) misses the noun/pronoun to be compared. (E) loses the maintain the parallelism (I am not sure). It think it should be like this "as those charge". Any clue???
  5. IMO (A). Correct IDIOM is: to distinguish between X and Y. Therefore choice (D) and (E) are out. (B) and the sub-languages or dialects within them, with those who have tried counting typically finding The sentence is the dialects within a language, so here THEM should be IT. © and the sub-languages or dialects within it, but those who have tried counting it typically find Here second it refers to languages, so THEM should be used instead of IT. Hope this helps...
  6. At least please post the question correctly. Check the repeated words in your choices (B) and ©. GMAT won't give you question in that way. Assuming these repeats as misprinting, I will go for © because of conciseness. IMO ©.
  7. OA is © but can anyone tell me the grammatical error with option (B)
  8. 1. The decision by one of the nation's largest banks to admit to $3 billion in potential losses on foreign loans could mean less lending by commercial banks to developing countries and increasing the pressure on multi government lenders to supply the funds. a) increasing the pressure b) the increasing pressure c) increased pressure d) the pressure increased e) the pressure increasing
  9. The reason being (A) is incorrect over here is that we are comparing NOUNS instead of VERBS. I guess most of us are confused with the thought that we are comparing the action of movement of pearls with the jumping action of genes. Actually this is INCORRECT. Because, moving is participle over here. So it act as adjective to the pearls instead of acting as a verb. So the correct comparison is between two nouns i.e. GENES and moving PEARLS. So if we replace moving with any other adjective such as white, black etc. would not make difference on the construction of the sentence. Hope it clarifies your doubt.:2cents:
  10. OK let's do it step by step. 1. Usage of YET Yet can be used in two ways: Adverb or Conjunction. As an Adverb, YET has many different usage but for us in current question, YET is used as DESPITE - to show contrary instead of SUPERLATIVE form as stated by Yogesh_kkk. Now let's see each option. A. offer the most dramatic evidence yet discovered of the close evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and birds Answer: As I have stated above, here yet presents the contrary that though the Fossils presents dramatic evidence BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, they also discovered the evolutionary relationship between X and Y. B. offer evidence more dramatic than what has yet been discovered of the close evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and birds Answer: Here usage of YET is in the form of present time. For example: I have yet to solve this question. The sentence structure is incorrect over here because 1. It should be something like this: offer more dramatic evidence. The placement of modifiers are awkward. 2. It is not concise when compared to choice (A). 3. Also in GMAT, the usage of WHAT as a pronoun is rarely correct and preferred only in case of no other correct options. C. offer more dramatic evidence of the close evolutionary relationship than any yet discovered between dinosaurs and birds Answer: The usage of YET is same as I have stated in option (B). Also the reason to rule out this is almost same as I have stated in option (B) except the point 3rd. D. have offered the most dramatic evidence of the close evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and birds that have yet been discovered Answer: The usage of YET is same as I have stated in option (B). The reason to rule out this choices are:- 1. Usages of quantifier, i.e. MOST is not equal to MORE. 2. The second usage of HAVE is incorrect over here because THAT represents to singular noun (i.e. relationship). E. have offered more dramatic evidence than any that has yet been discovered of the close evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and birds Answer: The usage of YET is same as I have stated in option (B). The sentence contains many of the above ambiguities presented in the options (B), © and (D). Hope this helps...
  11. Please check the Wrenin Martin's high school grammar book.
  12. BECAUSE, FOR, SINCE can be interchanged with each other. For looks awkward here because we are not habitual to see FOR in place of BECAUSE. For example, I jump for joy. So why do you jump? Because I want to be happy (joy). In other words, for joy/happiness/to enjoy I jumped. :) You can check the usage in wordweb 5.0
  13. Dear Chapped, No offense but the punctuation in option (B) is wrong. So, how (B) would be correct? And regarding one's sense (hearing, listening etc.) does not work. It all depends upon the rules set by GMAC. Also why should not YET is correct over here? It all depends upon one that how he take the context of the sentence. For example, let's break the current question with option ©:- Middle-income families are in trouble. WHY? Because they cannot afford to buy new houses. DO THEY HAVE ANY ALTERNATIVE? Yes, they have that they can afford the rented house at 25% of their incomes. Now does it makes any sense??? Option (B) would be right if it is written as:- since these families can no longer afford to buy homes; furthermore, .... Let me go little more deeper in the concept :D, FURTHERMORE / MOREOVER is used to add two clauses, where the second clause is stronger than the first clause. So, does in option (B), the second clause stronger than the first clause? Answer is BIG NO. So, here correct conjunctive adverb would be either IN ADDITION or ALSO. So, we have lots of reason to choose © over (B). Hope this helps this time... ;) Good Luck
