  1. Hi, Can somebody please explain how D is correct as oppose to B because in D it says "Mass determines" and in B it says "depending on it's mass." D sounds like mass is capable of thinking and determining vs something being determined based on mass. To me B makes more sense. Thanks!
  2. For choice A the and threw me off. Is the and correct there? "Minivans carry as many as seven passengers and, compared with most sport utility vehicles, cost less..."
  3. Hey bear&bull, good to know the difference between so X that and so that, thanks for that. Overall great explanation, but just curious why you wouldn't go with answer choice B over C just because of the parallelism. ..temperatures are so cold and the ice cap is so reflective that little of the polar...
  4. What does HTH stand for?
  5. "where there were" is more direct than "where there was a transmission" Hence, imo A.
  6. How to improve RC I'm not getting good scores on the reading comprehension section and my reading speed isn't really that fast either. I've gone through all of the official guide reading comp. material but I still need more practice. What additional books would you recommend I get and what more would you guys suggest I do? Thanks.
  7. imo B Isn't it suppose to be "its" b/c of "The Watsons, a prominent Staten Island family, has survived a close brush with;its..." and go with more than vs greater than b/c greater than is only used for #s?
  8. All of these answer choices seem wrong. I'm between A and E. Reason for A is that if treatment is only available in Rubaria then people who have it in Terland go to Rubaria to get treated therefore the rate is high in Rubaria. But I don't think this is right because the argument doesn't talk about cities being next to each other or people going to the other city.... Reason for E is similar to what annihilation said above. But I also think this could be wrong because the arugement doesn't mention a specific group, it just says in general the rate is high... I'll guess A if I had to on the test. What's the OA?
  9. i agree with bear&bull... this is testing count nouns... fewer and many go with count nouns as oppose to less and amount that go with non-count nouns. B it is!
  10. I don't understand the reasoning for for choosing B over A. Can someone elaborate on that. Thanks.

  14. Manasdas, at first I thought the answer would be D but I noticed that D has a little twist to it, it's talking about reputable journalists, not just journalists in general. That's why i think the answer is going to be A.
  15. I'll go with B because it doesn't mention anything about shared values across cultures. It only indicates what will happen and I don't think that matters...

For idioms, get a bunch of flash/index cards... write part of the idiom on one side and the preposition on the other... for example, one side has SO, the other has AS. Another one would be, NOT ONLY, other side BUT ALSO... good luck!
  17. That's exactly what the question wants, an answer that strengthens it... I'll go with D as well.
  18. This is my first time trying out the GMAT AWA section, timed. Please let me know how how I'm doing. Thanks in advanced! Topic: In general, people are not as concerned as they were a decade ago about regulating their intake of red meat and fatty cheeses. Walk into the Heart's Delight, a store that started selling organic fruits and vegetables and wholegrain flours in the 1960's, and you will also find a wide section of cheeses made with high butterfat content. Next door, the owners of the Good Earth Cafe, an old vegetarian restaurant, are still making a modest living, but the owners of the new House of Beef across the street are millionaires. My response: The author indicates that people started eating more red meat and fatty cheese more in the 1960s than they had been eating 10 years ago. The authorize reasoning behing why he believes that people in general eat more red meat and fatty cheese is because the Heart's Delight, a store that used to sell vegetables and wholegrain flour started to also sell a variety of cheese and other foods that are high in fat. The author also mentions that Good Earth Cafe that seems to only serve vegetarian meals does not make as much money as the restaurant across the street, the House of Beef. However, the author's examples do not support his arguement. First, the author's support of people in general consuming more red meat and fatty cheese by providing an example that the House of Beef restaurant is making more money than Earth Cafe does not provide any evidence of his claim. For instance the House of Beef restaurant, even though has the name "Beef" in it, does not indicate that people who dine at that restaurant go there to only eat Beef. Many large restaurants in todays society server a wide variety of different dishes. People who dine at this restaurant may do so because of there tasty vegetarian dishes. Second, the author indicates that Earth Cafe, that is across the street of the House of Beef, does not make as much revenue as the House of Beef. The author reasoning behind this is because the cafe only servers vegetarian meals. Unfortunately, the author fails to indicate the size of Earth Cafe restaurant. This restaurant may possibly make less revenue than the House of Beef do to it being a smaller restaurant with a small number of dishes, not because people do prefer to eat meet and fatty cheese more. The author could have strengthen his arguement by providing hard facts about the size of the restaurants, the various servings the restaurants offer, as well as people's interests of the meals who dine at these specific restaurants. The author's arguement would have been much stronger if, for instance, he was able to prove that a decade ago, people who dined at these restaurants only ordered vegetarian meals and because of the people interested, the Earth cafe was generating much more money than the House of Beef All in all, without concrete facts of before and after effects, this author's arguement is not convincing as he used examples that do not prove his point.
  19. This is my first time trying out the GMAT AWA section, timed. Please let me know how how I'm doing. Thanks in advanced! Topic: The rise of multinational corporations is leading to global homogeneity. People everywhere are beginning to want the same products and services, and regional difference are rapidly disappearing. My response: The author indicates that the same products and services in demand by people world wide. The author claims that this similarity in deman of the products and services is due to corporations being multinational. However, I disagree with the author that similar products and services are in demand world wide. For one reason why I believe that the author's claim is not true is because people's backgrounds, social status, and ability of purchasing power are not the same worldwide. For instance, the general population in the United States have a better living status and generally have more money, which they earn by working or that is provided by the government, than people in a third world country such as Armenia. Armenia provides extremely little funds to people who are unemployed. For instance, a person whith an income who barely affords to buy food for him and his family will not care to spend money on Internet Service that costs more than his monthly income from the government. On the other hand, a person who's on wellfare in the United States may most likely be able to feed his family and also have money left of over to pay for a luxury service such as the Internet. Another reason why I believe that the author's claim is not true is because he indicates that the demand of homogenious products and services is due to corporations being multinational. Corporations that are multinational does not mean that they provide their products and or services to every country worldwide. For instance, a corporation that manufactures Italian design clothing that be comprised of employees from various backgrounds and culture may provide its products to the American nations as well as European nations but not African nations, that are not as "Westernized." Such a corporations most likely would want to cater to African nations too, however, its business may not provide any revuen from African nations because there may be no demand for such products in those nations as they do not appriciate Italian designer close as most Westernized nations such as the ones in Europe, and in the North, Central, and South America. Overall, I do not agree with the author that multinational corporations lead to global demand for homogenious products and services. As I have indicated, people around the world cannot afford similar products due to the various incomes people have around the world. Also, people around the world have different taste in products. Therefore to say that people's interest in products and services are the same is not viable to me.
  20. What's the negation test? I keep seeing people use the negation test for assumption questions but I'm not sure how that works. Can someone explain to me how it works. Thanks!
