  1. @sweetgre11 I wish I could help you. I never faced issues with Antonyms so my advice can only be a general one, which you can find everywhere. Be careful to distinguish the fine shades of meanings. Check whether the word is a noun, verb..etc. Always remember - practice makes perfect. @Hopeless. Lol, nice screen name. Well, I guess I used to get atleast 70% correct most of the time. But this is one area in which I put a lot of effort during the "last lap".
  2. Congrats! Just one question: What is your percentile in AWA?
  3. @krishna3456 I am from Engineering background so Math did not seem difficult. About questions being from Geometry and Statistics, yes, I got more questions from Geometry however, stats were not too many and not difficult anyway. I started with Word list first and did not move on ANY other material until I was 100% sure I knew it in-and-out. It takes time but if you want rainbow, you have to put up with rain. Before GRE, I took a week's vacation from my office. And really went into fast track one month before the vacation. That means - solving test materials, visiting forums, basically looking out for tricky questions and instead of looking into every other place, just working on my weaknesses (analogy BTW). Computer simulated tests help you a lot. About Maths, I mentioned, I am from engineering background so not so difficult. However, we have one thing in common :) I too find Probability difficult and great thing is I did not receive any question on it. I hope same goes for you ! @gretester1 Good question. I forgot to mention SC material. I could not find any material specifically for SC. I relied on Big Book SC and Power Prep. In Big book I used to score at least 5 correct consistently. Some SCs are really difficult in BB> Just go through forums and understand rather than mug-up. Look out for keywords and don't get disheartened. With time you will become better. All the best everyone.
  4. I think you can apply for 2 degrees but probably it is not a good idea. The credit courses are time intensive and you would require a lot of inputs from your side. To be sure you can always call the University admninistration.
  5. Hi all A little bit about me: I am an Indian, living in Japan. My GRE score is 1480. Thing is , there are no consultancies here which offer admission counselling here in Japan for tech-schools (I plan to do major in CS). I know in India there are quite many like Mahnatter, Jamboree, Princeton etc. My questions are: 1) Are these consultancies for admission counselling necessary. I have a hazy idea about admission process but I think I could use some help with this. 2) If they are necessary, which one is best? Did you take admission counselling from it? If I take their service, will the service's efficacy be affected? Can they provide overseas support. 3)If they cannot provide overseas support, how much time should I take out for getting all the help required? a week? 2 weeks? I would probably not want to leave Japan as I am counting on the Japanese salary to pay for my college fee and if I leave Japan, financial troubles could arise 4) What is this ETS my credentials vault? has anyone used it? I know these are quite many questions. You dont have to answer them all if you dont want to. I can use any help that is available and I do thank you for it.
  6. So the D-day turned out to be quite good. What I have to say has already been told here many times. But I will just go through it anyway. Books to study: 1) Big Book - absoluetly essential. Don't even think of giving exam without studying this gem. Especially the analogies section. I always faced difficulty in that one,, but trust me the pain is worth it. Leave the last few days for revising it. Make note of questions you get wrong when you study it and cover those questions in the last days as the time will be quite limited during the last week or so. I cannot stress enough how much this book is important. 2) Analogy Bible : If you are weak in analogies (they have never been my forte), must go through this. It is easily available if you search for it. True, just going through question and answer can be quite tedious and boring but it helps you see the big picture on how things relate 3) Power prep : Very good . Actually the interface of this software is quite similar to the one you face in test. So do practice it. The questions are of same level as that on the actual paper. This is a gem. In case you have Vista (I had) - no need to install Xp for this, just run in compatibility mode and it will work out good. My advice would be keep at least one test for the day before D-day. The score on it is quite predicatble of the actual score. 4) Antonyms: I used antonyms software. Search for - antonyms gadget gre - and you should be able to find it. It has around 1000 antonyms from various sources. Master this and you are all set as far as antonyms are concerned. 5) Barrons - Book is excellent. Software not quite so. Needless to say memorise the 3000 odd words. Come to think of it, I knew the list pretty well and on the exam there was just 1 word which I was unfamiliar with. This list pretty much sums it all. The maths section is quite good as well in the book. 6) Nova - The software is as bad as the book is good. The tips for writing section are worth looking for. It is a complete study material in my opinion if you know the Barrons Word list. If you are running short of time, you can avoid software 7)Arco - Go through it once to get a gist of ideas, thoughts and the manner/order in which to express your thoughts. Dont even try remembering the responses. During the exam, you will be given a warning if your essay is similar to the one in the book or any other printed material and your scores are liable to be cancelled. But just go through it. I gave it 4 days - full 300 odd pages. 8) Cambridge software - didnt try it Be cool and composed during the exam. If some question is difficult , dont fret over it, just move along. of course, get initial questions right as mnuch as possible. My targety was to get all first 15 questions correct. All the best!
  7. I am not an expert by any means, I can vouchsafe that giving examples will boost your score, which you have done quite admiringly. I enjoyed reading it.
  8. C. Venial - easily excused Pellucid - easily understood
  9. Static means stationary, hence lacking movement. Humdrum is boring, mundane, lacks excitement.
  10. complaint : servile 1. trusting : gullible 2. cringing : fawning 3. pleasant : effortless 4. adventurous : courageous 5. arduous : futile To be servile means to be complaint. Ans is (A) as to be gullible means to be trusting. Ans is not © as to be effortless doesnt necessarily mean pleasant, not (D) because to be courageous doesnt means to be adventurous.
  11. Erin, still remember the answer? :)

  14. Hi Vipul. In GRE you dont get advance mathematics so the basic should be well covered. You can see the Quants questions here Since it has been quite a long time since you practiced Quant questions, try these and then go into details of the topics in which you are not confident. Good thing of Mathematics is that it is difficult to forget so it shouldnt be a daunting task. All the best! -------------------------------------- Only the good die young. Evil last forever
  15. 1. The no of female employees in HR department = 1 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 10 Now total number of male employees in HR department = 4 + 8 +.... = 40 The ratio is 5:1 , therefore female employees that were present = 40/5= 8 therefore absent = 10-8 = 2 2. Total number of male emplyees in Finance = 8 + 8 + 12.... = 44 Total female employees in Marketing = 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 12 Similarly, female employees in Sales = 12 now from these 3 statements and given statement we have : (total employees)/4 = (44+12+12) answer = 272 3. I dont get this, in question they have mentioned that female employees are 1/4 of the male counterparts. ! --------------------------------------- Only the good die young. Evil last forever

  18. Great question. I am a non-native English speaker. My perspective on this is - I have to struggle a lot to make the bridge, even when I recognize the words, somehow the bridge which I make is a generic one meaning the same bridge works for more than one choice. Recognizing the word is of utmost importance. Making a good bridge is crucial and it comes after the word is recognized. ------------------------------------ Only the Good die young, Evil last forever
  19. Many thanks to Sonu_sach and Archana for this. ----------------------------------- Only the good die young, evil last forever
