  2. Hi, I suggest you buy one book, go over that thoroughly, then borrow others from library for further reference.Buy the Barron's one for GRE for sure as its word list , maths overview and other strategies are the best....Well, you may need to practice the tests in ETS book too, but borrowing is better. And then , may be you would want to go through the ARCO book for essays. For TOEFL, I am myself toying with the idea about which one is the best. If you have a lot of time at your hands, you may want to go for the Longman one as I have heard good reviews abt it. If your grammar is sufficiently good , you may just need some CD only. In the end, don't forget powerprep!

  4. Hi, Best of luck...I am sure u have put sufficient time in practice to feel confident...u will surely do well.
  5. thanks a ton, zorrillo and pami.Well, it does make sense to use some other CD for preparation and then use pp for testing.Well, I think I am doing fine with the structure and listening part, I just tried the pp, but need some CD for further practicing..Do you think Barron's will be enough. I just want to put in about a week's worth.
  6. Hi, can someone please help me understand how the structure section is scored? I have just started my prep and went through the pp tests , the structure score was 12 - 29. I have seen people post scores like 13 - 30 or 12- 30. Since there is no review section in TOEFL powerprep, it is tough to find how many and what mistakes we may have done...How do all of you review your performance in powerprep test? Many of you have posted tough questions you have encountered in powerprep along with the correct answers, how did u manage to find the correct answers? Please help.
  7. I would appreciate ur suggestions.

Thanks everyone. Well Kinshuk, believe me, I was feeling that I had just screwed up my verbal part and while doing my quant, I fet like leaving the exam since I was of the view that my verbal scores will be really less....anyway, I do not remember getting a lot of antonyms,in fact I got 3 RC's, the last one being the lenghtiest and having about 4-5 questions, for most of which I made intelligent guesses due to time shortage...I would still suggest that one should just thoroughly prepare Barron's,rest is luck too....anyway best of luck...u will surely do well this time.
  9. Hey congrats,yaar...800 in quant is amazing....best of luck for admissions.
  10. HI tans, congrats, good work, especially quant...best of luck for ur applications. any univ in mind?
  11. BTW, how did u prepare for the exam?
  12. hey, congrats, that was a job well done.will need ur help now more than ever. I have yet to study abt the format etc. of the exam but will keep bombarding u with questions, if it is not much trouble to you. Congrats once again.
  13. Thanks pami, now need to start with TOEFL, but energy is at its lowest level....any suggestions?
  14. Hi, first of all, congrats for the good score . u did really well in the 7 days at hand. Please, if you can, help me with the quesries I have posted in the "The TOEFL" section.
  15. Hi all, I am new to this forum but an oldie from GRE forum. I gave my GRE this last Saturday and for 1390. I ahve not yet registered for TOEFL as I don't even know the ABC's here -the format, types of questions, marking strategies etc. etc. Anyone here can help me on some issues? a) How much time do I really need to prepare considering just gave the GRE? b) Do the already learned Barron's word list help? c) Which book is the best? d) What is a decent score in TOEFL? I would appreciate greately if someone can help me.
  16. Hi, sorry, but I do not exactly remember any quant/verbal questions. It is really really strange that there was not even one SC that I could say that I had seen before or something which looked slightly familiar. I do remember my essay qusetions but as per ETS policy, I cannot reveal it to you. So sorry abt that too. Well Dingus, the supervoca word list looks more or less the same except some words here and there. My suggestion to u is that if there is not much time left for your GRE, do not dig into new words. you will end up confusing urself. BTW, how much time did u take for preparing for TOEFL? I have not registered for the exam yet.
  17. Hi everyone, thanks for ur replies. well, as per the verbal, I already said there were many words apart from Barrons, but I had not done any other wordlist, it was just guess work. I was also amazed to see my score...even for words whose meaning I knew very well, I always ended up with two choices which seemed very likely...same for analogy questions, the answers had more than one choices that fit the bridge, even after thorough deliberation, I would be left with 2 choices-then just guess. Two RC's were about 50-60 lines, one on Palentology was lenghty and tough. As per quant, I do not think anyone who has a good understanding of basic concepts can really improve a lot ,thats my guess. My only suggestion is to keep track time of time. Believe me, it may sound redundant now,but I paid for it. I was so much confident of maths but the first few questions so overtook me that I spent alot of time on it. When u end up spending more than 5 mins. on a qusetion, means u don't know it or are not using the right method. Just guess there.when time is short and u see the clock running, u tense up and then cannot even fare well on questions u could have done well. Thats all for now. Any questions and suggestions are welcome. Anyone gearing up for TOEFL here?
  18. Hi all, gave my GRE on saturday, sorry could not post earlier. My scores are 650 (V) and 740(Q). I know I could have done better in Quant, but the test was really lenghty. My experience: Well, It started with the usual essay questions. Before that were some tutorials on how to use mouse etc. where I took a lot of time as I was just not feeling geared up for the real thing. The essays seemed fine although the argument one needed some brainstorming. Both the verbal and quant sections were the toughest from any other I have taken before. In the verbal section, about half the words were not from Barrons ,ther were three RC's , the third one immediately following the second. I guessed on the last about 4 questions since the time was over. The quant also started at atough note. After the first easy question, I encountered a lot of lenghty word problems . Even the simple percentage type questions were not framed in an easy way. I lost track of time and here too guessed on some last few. I belive I could have done better in quant had I just left the toughest questions after tackling them for few minutes or so, but since they were in the first ten or so, I was anxious to do them right. Anyway , what do u people suggest. I am hoping to get somewhere in Computers.Any suggestions please?
  19. 1) Since , the triangle is isosceles, two sides should be equal. There are 2 options. a) Since one side is 8, assume 2nd side s also 8( isosceles) and third is 2(perimeter is 2) b) One side is 8, the other two equal sides are 10 5 each. Try calculating area for both , one area will match teh choices given. 2) sy, total no. of women=w total no. of men= m given (2/3)w = (1/2)m thus m/w=4/3 To calculate women's fraction from total means calculating w/(w+m) Put the value of m/w and calculate answer. 3)increase in price =$5. % increase = 5/20 * 100 4)say one page letters = x 2 page letters = y Given x+y= 6 x+2y=10. Solve for x and y
  20. for second, i'd like to go with D. please post the answers, minud.
