Hi folks, I am an international student and have to apply for F1 visa for pursuing studies. I have to very soon submit a request to the university for issuing I-20-DS-2019 forms. I have one very basic query under Financial Documentation Section. I need to input information in the following section where I have to check (YES) or (NO) for four questions:[h=3]INDICATE SOURCE OF SUPPORT AND UPLOAD PROOF OF FINANCIAL GUARANTEE BELOW[/h][h=3][/h][h=3][/h][h=3][/h] Will you be funding your education in whole or in part through your own personal funds? * NO YES Will you be financially supported in whole or in part by your family and/or other private individuals (including small business owners)? * NO YES Will you be financially supported in whole or in part by your home government and/or an international organization/major corporation? * NO YES Were you offered any amount of financial support from The Pennsylvania State University (example - scholarship, assistantship, fellowship, etc...)? * NO YES Since my entire 5 year education would be fully funded by Univ along with stipend for my living expenses, should I still need to check (YES) for first three options to exhibit that I am financially sound to support my studies, had funding from university not been there? In my opinion, it should just be (YES) in the last option and (NO) in others. I just want to be 100% right in submitting this form. Can someone please revert? Regards, Aqua

Hey evergreen, your point maybe right about work exp. otherwise, but as you mentioned yourself, it kind of helps in case of Indian students. For example, I got three interview calls this year and in all three, focus was quite a bit on my current work in all three (extent varies). This maybe because the work ex is quite relevant (I am market researcher). For the interview In the school I am joining (Penn State), one prof. was constantly asking about my work. Again, as I said this maybe because my work is on research. Hey Vij, I agree with evergreen, focus on GMAT and get strong LORs. Also, since you are working on some research papers with profs, this would definitely help. Just try to get 'em published before application. Good Luck!!

Hey Xanthus, Good to hear that there are some tons of companies in Pitt & Pill. He has 4+ years of work ex. and by the time he would apply for visa, it would be 5+. He is a java developer. We would be fine meeting on weekends. We just dont want to be in a situation when only I am earning and he is not working or both of us studying away when we wont even have enough money to meet over weekends. He is working here in India and often goes twice a year to US for working onsite at client site. So, he can stay in US (for some months) and work for his current company. But this can't go forever.

Hey TJoe, Yeah he is in IT industry with 4+ year of exp. yea our plan is that he finds a sponsor in a city near Penn. This way we would be able to meet up on weekends and all. But if that does not work, he would apply for his studies (but honestly he in not very keen on studying Masters after this exp.). Lets c.Thanks for ur revert.

Hi, Yesterday I got a acceptance from Smeal College for my PhD:) Univ is offering stipend of 20K per year for the whole course. I am little worried about the less amount. I am from an Asian country. My spouse would be coming with me on F2 visa and hence wont have work permit in US. Only in April 2014 we will apply H1B visa.. but given the stats related to rejections of H1B visas these days, we are scared. He might not get H1 visa and then we will be doomed for life. With no income and not so high savings, we wont be able to survive. We would definitely would hate even the thought of him staying home... jobless. If he gets visa in April/May, then things would be perfect! Because, I think it would just be a matter of Sept'13 to Apr'14 (8 months). We can even stay in different countries for this period. Or even if he stays in US for that period it would be fine I think. But if he does not get visa, I don't see a way. We will definitely not stay away from each other for soooo long and also he wont be able to work in US. That would be a standoff of life. Can you guys share some experiences? How often does it happen that H1B for spouse becomes an issue? Does the fact that I am doing PhD will have any impact on his H1B visa acceptance/ rejection?

Hi guys many thanks for revert @sb29, they say that B schools in US dont accept this conversion. But you are right verbal score is too low:(. I agree to your point on Delhi Univ. it wont fetch me as good marks as IIT/IIMs. I did undertake a dissertation during my masters program. About LOR, since I am out of education since 2010 and my relevant research experience (as a market researcher, which of course is not same as academic research) stems from work ex only; I thought it wud be a good idea to get LOR from office. I am mostly interested in Quant Marketing with focus on NPDs. @ Xanthus, evergreen, Patent Clerk; thanks! @ evergreen, I started my application process very late and hence missed out on deadlines for many. My criteria of selection was broadly faculty fitment for quant/socialmedia/NPDs. With such a low no. of applications and low GRE VErbal score, I am thinking only miracle to happen.
