  1. I wrote to UT-Dallas last week asking them about the status of my application. They responded back saying that I was wait-listed. If grad-cafe is a reliable source, then it seems that no one had a 2nd round of interview calls (I could be wring about that though). Results are expected to come out in 2-3 weeks time. I am not holding my breath. It's time to look forward to Fall 2015.
  2. I know that I am going to sound like a broken record but has anyone here heard anything from Haas/UC. Berkeley or Ross/U. Mich?
  3. Reject season has begun. Received three bad emails in the last three days. Does anyone here have any news from Haas or Ross?
  4. Got rejected from MIT-Sloan, but that was to be expected in any case. Has anyone here heard anything from Haas/UC-Berkeley?
  5. Thanks! I really hope that I can get through UTD. I really like what they have been doing recently - their research productivty has gone through the roof in the past few years. If they continue what they've been doing, the Business School (and their Accounting Dept.) ought to be among the top 10-20 by the time PhD students from this year get onto the job market by 2018/19.
  6. We keep clicking F5 on out email inboxes all the time hoping for an interview. Unless, the Prof. is also clicking F5 hoping for an journal publication acceptance, I don't think he/she ought to be annoyed! On another note, just got an interview invite from UTD. :)
  7. Does anyone (in this thread) know anything about the status of Rice Univ's Accounting Dept? I know that they conducted fly-ins a few days ago, but are they done? Any online/skype interview calls?
  8. There was something on gradcafe for Fisher earlier today. I guess, that department has moved. That said, their accounting department has not. Which is irritating the hell out of me. What is the point of having an admission deadline on the 1st of freaking December if you are just going to sit on the applications for 70 days? This is borderline unprofessional!
  9. Congratulations!! Tepper is an awesome program and offers some of the best training you can get! Now do this:[dance]
  10. Just got an skype interview invite from LBS. Time to look up all the professors' profiles again!
  11. Congratulations and a big thanks evergreen! I guess, we'll be seeing a lot more of you around. :)
  12. Would it be appropriate to write back to the school 2 weeks after an interview about the decisions?
  13. I think I understand what you're saying here. One of my friends (currently in his 3rd) told me something similar. He said if I could get in 4-5 of high quality work done (and this is high-quality - no distractions, no reddit, no music, no emails etc.), then he simply calls it a day. According to him - the 6th hour and beyond are just ways to console yourself that you are in the office and doing something. So, once he reaches his pre-defined goals, he simply packs up and goes to the gym or watches a movie. Of course, he's in his third year and has no 'proof' to show that what he does is the right thing, but it does make some sense if you start thinking that the brain has the capacity to just so much. Beyond a certain point, it simply becomes inefficient to carry on working for 11 hours - especially where mental faculties are involved.
  14. UTD as in Univ. Texas at Dallas? In other words, should I crap my pants right now?:dejected:
  15. Just curious, how much time between 9-6 is actually spent working on research and how much goes into admin stuff? And does facebook ever enter the office? :playful: Also, do you folks set a quota for yourself? (on the lines that "I must run at least 4-5 regressions each day" or "I must read 2 papers today")
  16. Katz and USC have started interviewing people their accounting candidates. I'm really starting to get worried now.
  17. While I haven't applied to either TAMU and Duke, the applicants to those colleges would be very relieved right now. If you ever meet them, don't feel shy to ask them for a treat/party! They certainly owe you that!
  18. This. I'd be happy to just get selected into any program by the end of this application cycle. Of course I would be happy*ier* if I could get into the higher ranked programs (say USC or Ross). But at the end of the day, what matters to me is to get selected.
  19. A CFA is definitely a nice thing to show on your CV since it shows that you are familiar with the field. That said, CFA trains a person for practicing finance. A PhD in finance is about research. It's similar to an automobile mechanic and a mechanical engineer. Knowing the ins and out of an engine surely is a positive but that doesn't mean that the mechanic is a great mechanical engineer. Of course, there is nothing which prevents a person from being both!
  20. I was actually hoping for something to come in today. It's almost 3:30am here. :( February is going to be awful for my nervous system. EDIT: Got rejected by Emory.. Bad end to the day.
  21. If its of an consolation, INSEAD released their results for OM on the 5th of Feb 2013. They're known to be early movers.
  22. A slight tangent here. While it helps to have a working papers to show to the admission committee, I think it is a joke to believe that a research idea without the proper training makes any sense. There is a reason why most PhD courses have two years of coursework. That training is required to learn to frame a research question properly. Even with that training, it takes a grad student 2-3 years to finish his/her dissertation. A research proposal without the proper training is akin to a three year trying to construct the World Trade Center with sand, water and a bucket. The kid playing in the sandbox may conjure up some grand designs, but without architectural training, the construction would still be made of sand... As for anybody being able to do the job - I don't think so. Teaching Financial Valuation or CAPM to MBA students is not that simple. If the MBA students are smart, then the TA better to be good. Or else, the TA would be the butt of many jokes during student conversations. Tl;DR: I guess the only thing proved by having a working paper at the time of admission is enthusiasm. Which is good to have but ought not to be prerequisite for an admission.
  23. I have a strong suspicion that folks who are international applicants are missing out on these flyouts (much to their disadvantage). Rice, NYU and Foster (Washington) were schools that I was really looking forward to hearing from and so far I haven't heard anything from them. Especially Rice since my interests like in analytical and they have 1-2 professors who are the leaders in this area. 'Tis a bad day...
  24. Harvard's accounting reject at GradCafe just went up. Quite an early rejection - harvard has moved early this year.
