  1. Hello aspirants.. Gosh! I can't believe I was on the other side just a few months back.. damn! Anyways.. all the best to applicants. :)
  2. Thanks for the detailed replies. All the inputs are really helpful. To be more specific about my case, I will be moving to twin cities area (UMN). I have got a few options that I am trying to find more information about. I hope to get things in order before start of the classes. On a related note, I am seeing that most of the apartments are unfurnished. One of the options is to rent furniture. I was wondering whether furniture renting is prevalent in the US?
  3. Hi, Now that we are in, discussion on more earthly matters is in order... It is often recommended for students to visit the place before renting it (obviously makes sense!) but for some international students, it may not be feasible to visit twice. The temporary accommodation (in nearby inns and hotels) seems fairly expensive. Anyone facing this dilemma? Among the existing students, does someone know of an instance when tenant rented a residential unit before arrival? What are the implications? Also, what are the general issues one should keep in mind while renting a place in the US?
  4. I am already planning for the different layers of woolen clothing. On a more serious note, weather was a major concern but other factors somehow outweighed it.
  5. Thanks. Carlson is indeed one of the best programs in information systems. I am really excited about being there.[w00t]
  6. UMN (Carlson School) in the Information and Decision Sciences department :victorious:
  7. Hi, I posted it on the other thread but forgot to post it here. I have accepted the offer from UMN (Carlson School) in the Information and Decision Sciences department. Time to buy some warm clothing!:victorious:

  9. Hi urchers! I was away for some work for last few days. I am happy to note that I have accepted one of the 3 offers and have withdrawn from everywhere else.:eager: It has really been a delight + stressful experience! All I can say is that at the start of the season, I did not think that I will be the one saying 'No!".. But honestly, all the ad-coms that I had an opportunity to interact with were amazing. It really was hard to refuse the other offers but I am sure that I have made a right choice. All the best to everyone. :encouragement:
  10. Not sure whether you are asking about doing interviews with different candidates in multiple slots or doing several rounds with a single candidate but I will poke nonetheless. I think the later is school specific. I was interviewed twice by two schools. In the first case, the school was upfront about 2 interviews as the standard procedure (albeit a new one even for them). In the second case, the second interview was an afterthought. It was for me and POI to have a more detailed discussion about my area of interest.
  11. Thanks. This was one of my top choices. So I am super happy to get this.. :D
  12. Yep. I had an interview followed by another one individually with POI :)
  13. Congrats XA, I hope you have a wonderful career ahead and I hope we too meet at some conference some day.:eager: Actually, that will really be amazing. Imagine all of us at some big conference, realizing suddenly that we were the fellow PhD sweaters on Urch forums. :playful:
  14. Institution Name: Virginia Tech (Pamplin) Concentration: Management Date of Notification: 2/19/2014 Type of Notification: email Notification: Accepted Posted on GradCafe? Yes. Comment: Elated!!:victorious: I was not sure where to post this as my area intersects strategic management and technology management but this thread seemed more relevant. :eager:
  15. Interview invite for Carlson (U.Minn) for information and decision sciences:victorious:
  16. Interview invite for Virginia Tech (Pamplin College of Business) :victorious:
  17. This. I have also got two explicit rejects (Ross and INSEAD). Both were communicated by the POI at the respective schools. :miserable:
  18. You got rejected from OPIM?? I have heard absolutely nothing from them :dejected: maybe my app was not even worth getting rejected :smack:
  19. Your inbox must be overflowing with acceptances. [clap] you already have got one from Wharton! [w00t]
  20. On an ultra-optimistic note, they are perhaps thinking of admitting without any interviews.:grad: Harvard is expected to come out with their interview invites by next week and final decisions by March. So at least some hope (no matter how minuscule) remains.
  21. LOL!! Did you just meet your thesis supervisor or what? Hilarious responses by the way :D
  22. Just to create a useful distraction, I thought of starting a discussion on typical interview questions. 1. Why this school? 2. Tell me/us about your previous research experience? 3. How was your experience of publishing in a peer-reviewed journal? (this was asked to one of my friends) 4. Something on the research questions mentioned (if any) in the SOP Urchers, please contribute :):)
