But, OG uses who or whose to refer to people.
I guess its the question of preference, out of 'who' and 'that', who is better for referring to people, but otherwise 'that' can always refer to either people or things.
Rule1:
which --> which can be used only for things.
that --> that is used for things as well as people/group of people
As well, can someone confirm if 'that' is always singular, where as 'which' might refer to singular or plural things.
One more thing: Since 'which' is usaully set-off with a comma, it is often more ambiguous since it can refer to multiple nouns before the comma.
Swadeep,
Congratulations on your GMAT and TOEFL score. You will surely get into your favourite school.
I do have few questions: What are the best tests to write during the last week of GMAT preparation? How do you rate PR and ARCO tests, especially when compared to Kaplan's? What would you recommend during the last week of preparation? Any special tips?
Great post, Great Score and Wonderful attitude. Congratulations!!
Can you as well share more of the list of silly mistakes you listed? I liked your list and looks like these are frequently made mistakes.
I would agree with the answer 'A' to question 7. Square root of X2 is always |X| which is -x when X is less than 0.
Can someone share the answers for 13 question? I was wondering, if 3560 should be divided twice or only once. I think it should be twice as it is referring to area and square feet.
Thanks.
Do so refers to the speaking clearly. B and C out. E changes the meaning, as well 'because' is preferred to 'since'. E is out.
D is clear and succinct.
I would go with 'E'.
I have eliminated 'A', 'B' for ambiguous 'it'.
Eliminated 'C' because another one refers to some other one instead of referring to the same illness.
'D' changes the meaning. E is clear.
Please refer to Spidey's notes. It has a very good explanation.
In essense, So {Adjective} As to {Verb} should be the usage of So As pattern. In GMAT So As is always wrong, except perhaps in the idiom such as "so as to be hindered by".
The usage of So that is So X that Y. X and Y should be parallel.
Just my 2 cents.
