  5. I think some of you would have heard about the "Buffalo Theory" :D Still posting for the others :) In one episode of 'Cheers', Cliff is seated at the bar describing the 'Buffalo Theory' to his buddy Norm. I don't think I've ever heard the concept explained any better than this... "Well you see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo and when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive drinking of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers." Cheers sitcom - very funny ;)

  7. :D The final number we come up after all the calculations are all multiples of 9 ;)
  8. GMATPREP's quans section is more challenging than PP's and it is close to the real GMAT's level of difficulty. Verbal section from both OG and PP are on the same plane. If you have completed OG, then there is no point in taking up PP tests because the tests repeat the questions from OG.
  9. If the donors who have made previous contributions were not contacted by the fund-raisers, then it means the organizers were concentrating on least-likely sources. But the author says this did not happen. I think the answer is A purely though POE.
  10. Yes I'm. :) He is fine. Nothing to worry. Thanks for asking. I can't belive that u still remember. :)
  11. To add a few more, 1.Ajanta and Ellora caves - West 2.Varanasi - Holy city - North If are very particular abt temples, then Kancheepuram ( South) with its 'n' number of temples is the place for u. Brihadeeshwar Temple - Tanjore (South- TAMIL NADU) is a work of art you ought to see. This is famous because the architect designed the temple in such a way that it does not cast a shadow at all. Dancing Shiva temple at Chidambaram will interest you as well. This place is known for akasa lingam. Unlike many other temples Lord Shiva doesnt not have a form and is worshipped as a formless entity. You will learn more about Chidambara Rahasiyam ( Chidambaram's secret) Have fun!

  13. If you are for nature at its best, then u wont be disappointed with Darjeeling ( eastern India- West Bengal state) The famous sunrise at Tiger hills is to die for.The summit is close to 7000 feet above the sea level and the amount of exhilaration u experience watching the sunrise is priceless. Since u cant see the sun with a naked eye, people watch the snow-covered mountains actually changing it's colours due to the reflection of the Sun's rays. U will find more information at http://www.darjeelingnews.net/tiger_hill.html The last time I went adventure sports were not that big at Darjeeling. But now I see that they are sought after as well. Im from the southern part of India and I can tell u that as far as my state goes( Tamil Nadu) it is not the best place to visit during summer. Yes we do have couple of very famous hill stations, Ooty and Kodaikanal. Apart from these there are many other districts with cooler climate. If u dont mind the heat, then this state has plenty to offer. Hill stations : ooty and kodaikanal. Architecture : Mahabalipuram ( many rock-cut temples from the olden era) Mudumalai Sanctuary Famous temples at : Chidambaram, Madurai ,Kancheepuram and Kanyakumari You will be surprised when u visit Pondicherry and find the French atmosphere still lingering there. This place has a magnifienet rocky beach. I won't be spared if I dint mention Marina beach( second longest in the world) is in Chennai. Cochin and Munnar ( state of kerala) are popluar tourists spots as well. They have beautiful landscapes and breathraking views. Mysore ( state of karnataka) has the famous Mysore palace which is an excellent work of architecture. It has many pictursque locales too. Bangalore ( karnantaka) - If ur a party animal, bangalore with it's awesome city/night life will impress you. As far western and northern parts are concerned i'm not too sure. I have been to Mumbai ( major city in the west) and New Delhi ( northern part also the capital) only a few times. Goa ( western part) attracts a steady stream of visitors every year. Famous for its beaches and churches. Have fun!
  14. 1. for every positive even integer the function h(n) is defined to be the product of all the even integers from 2 to n (inclusive). If P is the smallest prime factor of h(100)+1 then P is between 2 and 10 10 and 20 20 and 30 30 and 40 greater than 40 2. x ^ 4+ y^ 4 = 100. Greatest possible values of x. between 0 and 3 3 and 6 6 and 9 9 and 12 12 and 15 3. All the stocks over the counter are designated by either a 4 or 5 letter code that is created by the 26 letters from the alphabet. What is the maximum number of different stocks that can be designated using the code? 4.During a sale of clothing store sold each shirt 15$ and sweater at 25$. Did the store sell more sweaters than shirts? 1.The arithmetic mean of all the shirts and sweaters was 21. 2.The total price of all the shirts and sweaters sold was 420. here statement 1 alone is sufficient. stat2 yields an equation with 2 variables and hence not sufficient. But I have come across a few questions where the stament which yields an equation is also sufficient. This is so because there was only one set of values for x and y that was possible. How we do ensure that? Do we have to check each time for possible values of x and y ( given that both are integers) in such an equation yielding statement
  15. a1,a2.. an is a series where n is an integer ak= k if k is odd ak= -ak-1 if k i s even ( k-1 is the suffix here) Is the sum positive? a. n is odd b. an is positive

  21. These are supposedly called "real gmat questions" which appeared in the last 1 week. Im not sure tho'. I have taken these from the gmatjjblog and a few other sites. The answers are not official answers. Please discuss these questions. 1.Three machines, A produces 500 pages in 2 hours, B produces 500 pages in 3 hours, C produces 500 pages in 5 hours. How long does it take, tat their constant rate, for them to produce 1000 pages together? 2. Of the 32 people doing some works, 20 do work A, 15 do work B, and 10 do nothing. How many of them do exact one work? 3. A pile of cubes: there are 81 cubes in the lowest layer; after that, both the number of the lines and the cube in each lines is one less than that in the layer under it. 4. A square with points (1,1),(-1,1),(-1,-1)&(1,-1). What is the probability that point P(x,y) is within the square? where x^2+y^2=1
  22. They couldn't have mentioned it because it happened today 8:30 AM IST. I was checking rediff for Indian news and found this. I'm in deep shock. My brother lives in Delhi :( . Called him immediately. He is fine.. *sigh* So much for staying up late !
