  1. kamal, please post th eamswer choices. people will not respond without them.
  2. hi skaria, well, it's hard to explain because I don't like any of these choices... Ok, let's see. I hope this helps.
  3. friends, I am interested in improving my speaking, let's talk via Skype. you can find me by alex_cute (Aleshka).
  4. Parallelism here is: to seek support ...and to increase, thus it is C
  5. E is correct, I find all the other choices to be awkward
  6. I would say it is SHALL - sometimes SHALL is used when it means "will try to do sth". I am not sure about the correct answer but I would say B on the test. What's the OA?
  7. there is one another important point to mention: try to avoid passive voice, GMAT prefers active.
  8. D is the correct choice for the first one because A PRACTICE refers here to an action (they work overtime) while C is the correct choice for the second one because here there is no action described. The author describes the subject - wooden frames as the items of equipment. Thus you can say A PRACTICE because you try to squeese the whole action into one word and you should never say A METHOD for the second one because there is no method - just a subject. 1.
  9. D is correct, all the others misuse the meaning of mass, the star and the red giant stage
  10. agree with A, colon should not be used in B because the phrase which follows it does not disclose the meaning of the phrase standing before colon.
  11. guys, E is correct because it is Fred's involvement we are speaking here about. Thus it should be Fred's being involved and E does the job.
  12. E is definitely not right because it misses THAT before OF
  13. I would say D. Not sure if the word NEEDY is good for use on the GMAT. D has the correct structure
  14. guys, my answers: 4, 3, 3, 1. 4 for the first one because in order to put AS ON you need some verb there. For example, AS ON would be correct if you had AS IT DOES ON some coins. in the third one, you can't say REACH because you will loose the meaning of the sentence - try to read it with REACH in.
  15. In this context it is wrong. You should say: contemporary film directors, some of whom were sitting in a small room. However, if you want to say: contemporary film directors, some of them without ties, were sitting in a small room, - I guess, this one would be correct.
  16. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe IT IS CONSIDERED is never or almost never used in such a context. Usually we can find the following context: He was considered a famous writer - or likewise. In other words, it is never correct (on TOEFL and GMAT) to say "it is considered THAT" (at least I have never seen it so far) In this case we should indeed use IT IS THOUGHT as Wasleys correctly mentioned.
  17. hi guys the problem with A is that we can't see what the THEIR refers to, therefore it should start with the subject (in this case it is women). As Nextgoal correctly said, it makes the comparison clear.

    Probability

    it's A - 1/3. you have four outcomes when the sum is 9: 4 and 5 3 and 6 5 and 4 6 and 3 Total number of outcomes is 12. So it is 4/12 which is 1/3
  19. IMHO, D is the only correct choice. Nowhere in the passage we were told that antibiotics are the ONLY means to cure people. Therefore, we can infer that there are other, more beneficial, means to cure people -> don't give antibiotics to everyone who is sick, look for another treatment. As for E, the author nowhere implies that if you change antibiotics patients will feel better. In fact the passage says that antibiotics in general (what actually means ANY of them) are bad. In this sense, it doesn't really make any difference whether you give one or another antibiotic to the patient - it will be bad anyway.
