  1. A TU letter is not needed- as the only person seeing it will be the adm. secretary- not Ur profs or dean. But, when in a problem, I have found secretaries to be the most helpful (Sure U can use our Photocopier for free...or sure, U can call that lng distance ref. from my phone). So it probably is a nice touch.
  2. :hmm: I think I wanted to be a Police Man, bcoz my Uncle wuz and I liked his Badge... Now, I am closer to Virologist, MsDemeanor...
  3. A ltr by ur senior wld be gud, but schools want ltrs from Profs also, they think profs can judge ur ability to succeed and cope up in academics bttr than ur supervisor. Its a good GRE score!
  4. Sid, I cnt hlp U. I only saw vry few posts about MFA. I don't want an MFA. but I think these ppl dnt post on forums too much.
  5. Very cool, and I m vry Jealous. We need a Green w/envy avatar. isn't gud enuf.
  6. MsDemenor is right. Each place has special rec's. U can dwnld application from the net. Then U will now xactly what U need. :(
  7. Good Luck Ms. Demenor. I think u will get good news soon.
  8. In general ppl dont usually transfer. U need to call places and see if they will look at ur application now- if u do not want financial aid, a lot will do it, and probably accept u in the fall term. But bcoz transfer at grad level is different a lot of Uni's are not gonna take the credits from ur former Uni. It isn't like U-grad. U have to call the sch and talkto them. If U have a prof who knows ppl at the other sch thats good they culd call also and help U.
  9. Sidharthskumar- I think part of the problem is that there are not a lot of MFA people on this site. For example- if you were to post in the Grad school admissions- "Anyone going for an MFA" Probably everyone interested in the MFA would reply, but there still would not be as many as the ECE or what not... I think MsDemeanors divisons are OK. I'd put the Physicians in a different category as they have make the MCAT and whereby would have specific discussions about the test. The Phd in Education is a lot different than engineering. I think also that a catch all for liberal arts would be a good division.
  10. A good question to ask of the Masters programs that aren't tops is where their graduates went- what they are doing. If the professors at the Not tops Univ. are well connected with people at the top schools- then it will make it much easier to get into a good PhD program, if you do well in the Masters. It is really important that your Masters professors have those good connections and are willing to use them for you. A phone call placed in the right direction can go a long long way in such a situation.
  11. I don't know a lot about the topic at hand, (I read it because I had a weak math background!!!) but I think that you will qualify for more aide as a LPR than as an international student. A lot of the grants/aide money is stipulated to go to US citizens or residents with permanent status... much more than is slated for international students. So this may help you. The MS in Econ seems to be disregarded in the US in favor of a PhD. So, you might consider applying for PhD programs, though of course in Econ, they are quite competitive. You could always apply for a MS in the US and while getting the MS- after the first semester when your grades are in, see if you can not flip into the PhD program, difficult but not impossible
  12. Not to burst any bubbles BUT- For a 3.X gpa (even if it is a 3.9) and 2 years of work exp U are not going to get a lot of flexibility- if yur degree is not equivalent. There are a lot of applicants to graduate programs each year. Lots of people with work experience and 3.X or even 4.0 GPAs who have degrees that are equivalent. MayB yur program is = but U can only find that out, like a couple of people have said already- by getting in touch w/the schools.
  13. u may actually be able to call the place u declined the admission to and see if they will not reactivate your application. So- u could actually avoid having to do a second application, or bother getting recommendations again. I did this, and was very surprised that they were willing to take me again (And then I ended up not going anyway, due to financial reasons). I think there is some sort of time limit on those things though, but u shoudl try bcoz it could work out and then be EZ.
