  1. sandy22, I'm sorry I did not understand your question clearly, but, yes, Goldust is correct !
  2. Nimz, Usually, you might have to take the "travel mediclaim" policy for the period till your course begins. Most universities cover your health insurance as a part of their fee structure (so you are insured when you pay your fees), unless mentioned specifically.
  3. sandy22, Are you trying to send the LOR's separately or along with the rest of the package? If at all you need an address, I would believe it should be on the outside of the envelope, unless the school has a format. Whatever is the situation, I would recommend you contact your school's admissions' coordinator for the best answer.
  4. Tamsel, A lot of people say the school reputation hardly matters, but I strongly believe otherwise. Given, the current economy, the Bridgeport offer looks really lucrative, but if I were you I'd take up UIC. Unless of course, the Bridgeport curriculum is exactly what you're looking for !
  5. Hello people !!! long time !!! How's everyone doing ??
  6. I think the answer should be A as it is a sufficient condition to find the answer. However in case of x > -1; consider x=2, in that case, x^2/ |x| > 1. But if x = -1/2, it is the opposite.
  7. stacypringal, Though I pay tuition for classroom education, I've been following a "distance learning" format, learning through videos from home and I can very well say I've been managing pretty decently:). It all depends upon the individual !
  8. cool_cat, Seriously, as the others have mentioned, a more valid post would have been if you had done some research with the universities (which I hope you have done by now) and then requested for a evaluation of that list since you are the best evaluator of your complete profile!
  9. Mervin, Frankly, I don't think what you did in your undergrad is going to affect the entry process too much. From my personal experience, the only think I feel counted towards my admission was my undergrad score which was lesser than your score ! Also, as you have more than a year's work experience, that would be a more valid source of evaluation. About the prerequiste requirement, its more of a formality issue. I'm sure you must've done quite a few common courses with the CS people. Quite a few of my friends have successfully changed their discipline in a similar way. In fact you can account for your work experience to have created an interest in the field of networking or something of that sort ! All the best anyways !
  10. Mervin2008, You should understand that very application is not treated the same way. From what I see, your profile is really good. Of course your work experience will count, in fact, if your applying to a CS/EE program (which I assume you are) then it is a great plus !! Personally, I feel you are being modest in not considering more top schools in your list !
  11. All the best for your quals ka !! ace it !!
  12. I personally like X-box 360...haven't really tried out PS though !!
  13. Hey snowy and samy !!! long time !! How you guys been doing ?? @samy .... hows canada treating you buddy ? @ snowy... you on vacation here or some project ??
  14. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all !! @ Mr. Wasleys: Not quite "dismanifested" (are you sure its a proper word ? :P) as of yet. Can't get rid of "The Kron" that easily can we !!!
  15. With the "Kron Entry" ?? :p @ aaru .. hey didi !!
  16. BhaRaKri, I relly think you can do away with the ones marked in red. Tier One'-(Well nigh impossible to get into):GIT,Carnegie Mellon,Texas A&M-College Station. T2:(Might just be able to squeeze in):UoWashington-Seattle , Virginia Polytech,UoPittsburgh,Rennsselaer Polytech,UoDelaware,UoVirginia,UoRochester. T3:(Actually possible!):UoIowa,UoAlabama,UoKansas. Getting into the MS program at RPI can be pretty tough I think. Georgia Tech would not be really tough for a profile like yours as of late they seem to be taking in a lot of International students! Also are you sure you have'nt crossed the deadline for TAMU, because I remember them having pretty early deadlines! Otherwise I think your pretty good to go!
  17. omaradib, As CalmLogic mentioned, it is best to contact your department in these regards. Hope you do have sufficient time at hand as most of the schools will be closed now for the winter break. Send in your queries as soon as possible as hope that the reply at the earliest !
  18. A comparison of the WLT to exactly a year and a half back definitely makes it spooky now !!!
  19. Hello Mr. Wasleys ! Some souls still light up this place !!!:p The photos are awesome !! Beautiful architecture !! Would definitely want to go there some day !!
  20. Yashodhara, If you really want to scale your GPA to 4, I would just to do it solely for personal reasons and never include such a scaling in your applications. It would be calculated as: (Your GPA/Topper's GPA)*4 For a relative standings OR (Your GPA/ Max Attainable GPA)*4 For absolute standings.
  21. Yashodhara, I'm not really sure but this is what I would think your list looks like now. If as stated then your list seems balanced and really would not need any more additions or replacement. However you should acknowledge the fact that these are just for getting an idea and these should not be taken for granted as the process/trends change almost every year. All the best with your applications.
  22. Yashodhara, I would suggest you to replace one of the tough schools. But, I'm not a CS major, so I really dont know how the standings of the schools are like. But just to get an idea of the school rankings check out these sites: US News & World Report - Breaking News, World News, Business News, and America's Best Colleges - USNews.com PhDs.org: Science, Math, and Engineering Career Resources — PhDs.org: Science, Math, and Engineering Career Resources You can use these rankings just to get a relative feel of what exactly classifies as a tough or a moderate school for your major. Then I would suggest you to categorize them into the respective types. Ideally I would like to have 3 Tough, 4 Moderate and 3 Safe Bets in my list, if I were you. If you want to apply to more schools, you can add a few to the above categories as you please.

  24. Yashodhara, On the whole I feel your profile looks pretty good. Quite a few tough schools in your list, so I would opt for atleast one more "safe bet" school if I were you. Also with specifics to Georgia Tech, I think you stand a really good chance. Make sure you work well on your SOPs n LORs and you should be fine. All the best !!
  25. Senthilos, Your score is not totally a negative part of your application. It may not be amongst the best, but in case you plan to do your grad studies in the field in which you've worked for 4 long years, that should definitely be a huge bonus !! The best thing would be to work out your schools and then contact some one there (the list of students can be found on the school/dept. website). They can give you a much better idea of you chances of getting in there. All the best !!
