I had already submitted my Fall 2011 accounting PhD application...but I read some posts on this website and I am really concerned about my application... Senior Undergraduate now in a top university located in Texas, accounting and finance double major, GPA 3.8, GMAT 680 (Q49), 2 accounting interns and 1 financial intern experiences (but not with Big 4...), research experience with my Honors Thesis (about IFRS and inventory valuation)... Weakness: My GMAT is really not good b/c as a college student, I only had time to study GMAT during the past Xmas break... I have no Master degree... My professor said I could apply b/c I was over the ave accounting phd applicants, however now I feel my background is really so weak compared with other applicants on this website..but I think I did get strong references from my professors... I have applied to Penn State, UColorado, UArizona, WUSL, Rutgers, UOklahoma...Does any one know whether I have any chances to get into those programs...??? I am interested in the Financial and/or Tax field.. I also applied to two MAcc as backup and I am considering applying one more MAcc now... Please give me any suggestions and comments. Really Appreciate! Thanks~~

Hi everyone, I'm guessing most people still active in this board are people applying for admission in Fall 2010. I hope you all got into programs that are good fits. I'm planning to apply for admission in Fall 2011 later this year, and I would like some feedback on my profile. Type of Undergrad: Economics and Quantitative Finance, double major, small university in Southeast Asia, graduating July 2010 Undergrad GPA: 3.93/4.00 (Economics major: 4.0, Quant. Finance major: 3.87) GRE/TOEFL: Taking soon. Expect at least a 780Q. Math Courses: Linear Algebra (A), Intro Stats (A+), Differential Equations (A-), Math for Econ (A+), Real Analysis (A-), Probability Theory and Statistical Inference (A-), Advanced Math for Econ (A), Stochastic Calculus (A), Numerical Analysis (In Progress) Econ Courses (u/g): Intro Econ (A+), Intermediate Micro (A+), Intermediate Macro (A-), Applied Econometrics (A), International Economics (A+), Economic Development in Asia (A), Financial Econometrics (A), Economics of Financial Intermediation (A+), Finance (A-) Grad courses: None Other Courses: A lot of other business and finance courses, Intro Sociology (A+), Social Psychology (A+) Letters of Recommendation: One Harvard PhD, One UPenn PhD, other pending (one of these, potentially: Stanford PhD, UPenn PhD, UCSD PhD). Potentially good, but noisy. I haven't confirmed these for sure yet, so I will try to find out more about the quality of my letters as I discuss my plans with these professors. Research Experience: Honors thesis in political economy, RA work for several profs Teaching Experience: TA work for several courses (intro econ, math for econ, intro to statistical theory) Research Interests: micro theory (pure/applied), political economy, search, game theory, econometrics, financial economics Statement of Purpose: Plan to talk about why I want a PhD, my research interests, and why I'm a good fit for their department. Other: Opportunity cost is very high. Will only go if funded by a top program. This is a long shot, I think. Concerns: No-name school, relatively unknown LOR writers. They know some people high up in some very good schools, but I don't know if they think I'm worth putting in a good word for. No Calc I-III. Very little in-class exposure to upper division economics, aside from intermediate micro and macro. Gap year in between undergrad and PhD. Applying to: Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Northwestern, Yale, Stanford, UPenn, Chicago, Columbia, NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, Caltech, LSE
