  1. To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. The true characteristics of a society can only be found in small towns and villages where heritage and traditions sill in extant. The most of urban cities are diversified by people from different societies who came and settled in for various reasons such as education and employment. Urban cities are developed mostly with benchmark of cities from western countries. In major cities of India like Chennai, Bombay and Bangalore, we can see the population of non-natives are more than natives, due to this the birds-view study of a major city will not produce an accurate result of its true characteristics. In contrast, small towns and villages, we can still see a vast number of people still holding their customs and traditions for generations- the traditional festivals, foods, Old Gods, martial arts etc can be seen celebrated there which were long forgotten by urban community. However, due the amorphous development of internet and media, the small towns even getting changed. As per saying “change is the only thing will never change” – the characteristics of the society will also will not be constant. The one which is considered as rule may considered as taboo in future. Still, the results collected from the any one developed urban part of a vast nation will not reflect the character of the bucolic village next to it.
  2. Hi, I have written my first Analyse an Issue task and would like to get your valuable feedback on the same. This is my first essay in an attempt to improve and write more. Please suggest me how can I improve upon my writing skills and if you can evaluate me for this essay. I tried separating paragraphs by some additional spaces but It doesn't work. Any ideas why? I have added numbering for simplicity in understanding paragraph changes. Topic : "To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities." 1.A society, according to me, is an amalgamation of people, their beliefs and ethics, and their variegated lifestyles; living harmoniously and practicing their traditions, which have been temporally accepted by the group. Most of these variations can be attributed to the geographical, and more importantly, the demographic aspects of a region. When we talk about a region as a whole, the demographics play a key role in studying the prominent characteristics of diverse societal groups. 2.Over a period of time, societies have emerged and a foundation has been laid for those who are a part of it. So, when we talk about two societies that are miles away in a country like India, how would we be able to distinguish them? The first logical assertion would be by asking, “To which region do these people belong?” This classification gives us a clear picture that, by studying a region we can learn the traditions, beliefs and customs, and the characteristics of a society. 3.To understand the different aspects of a society, a large population needs to be studied. Let us consider an example of two major cities, New Delhi and Mumbai, both of which are the national and commercial capitals of India. Both these cities have a population of over a million people and a variegated cultural and societal patterns. Some of the common characteristics of both these cities include people who are mostly are religious and sentimental. Society is divided into classes based on the economic status of people living in these places. People acknowledge the fact that, to be a part of the society, they have to bind themselves to the temporal beliefs and customs that have been setup by their linage. 4. Although one can perceive many common characteristics of a society just by studying the demographic divide of a region, there are some differences that might arise by just studying the major cities; some of them being very subtle once and the others might be totally contrasting attributes. It is best in this case, to diversify the parameters for understanding these characteristics and give a less weightage to the demographic aspect. If we consider the example in the preceding paragraph, in a country like India, political influence needs to be attributed before deciding on some general traits of the societies. 5.On the whole, based on the discussion above, it is fairly evident that by studying the major cities, most of the inherent characteristics of societies can be well understood and explained. After all it is we human beings who have formed societies, civilizations and cities over time. It is definitely a start and can form a base for further understanding of these societies.
