Institution: Louisiana State University

Program: Ph. D, Economics

Decision: Admitted

Funding: ~Tuition remission (but not fees), slight healthcase subsidy, 17k stipend for TA/RA responsibilities (all years)

Notification date: First week of February

Notified through: E-mail

Posted on GC: Not Yet, will

Comments: Received an e-mail initially stating that my research interests were not aligned with the departments', but hoped that I was still interested. I indicated that I was, hoping this wouldn't be my only admission. It was until today. I would have attended if it was my only offer, despite placement associated with an unranked program. Turning the offer down.

Comments: OMFG. Couldn't be more thrilled. I am officially breaking the mold of both my undergraduate institution (within my the department I came from), and generally speaking the institution that I am doing graduate work at. I'm beyond thrilled. This makes it possible for my wife and I to either live together or live in a close range. Amazing. Words can't describe how happy I am after 3 VERY LONG months of misery. Don't give up hope. Makes me feel like I deserve this. I think I do. I'm incredibly proud of myself.

Comments: Man the competition must be steep for these things -- I got VG/Excellent reviews across the board and each reviewer said something very positive about the idea and my potential. It feels good to get great feedback, but the fellowship would have been nice!

Comments: Not surprised, but disappointed

G/VG, G/G, VG/E

All 3 reviewers liked my research plan to various degrees, but 2 of 3 seemed very fixated on my very low undergrad GPA despite the huge uptick in grad GPA for my MA
