VIK32
The number of mountain gorillas is declining with such rapidity that the population is one-half in the twenty years between a count made by George Schaller in 1960 and the one made by Dian Fossey in 1980. (A) with such rapidity that the population is one-half (B) with such rapidity that the population was one-half © so rapidly the population divided in half (D) so rapidly that the population was halved (E) in such rapidity that the population is halved I go with A. As unmarked is in simple present and evidence is the fact. And one can present fact in present form . Rest C, D and E are out of form Any attempt!!!!! VIK32
Generally we should maintain the same tense or flow of action in the sentence. Here why simple present not right? I feel "was" makes the fact as past form. I read somewhere that fact can be stated in present if the flow of sentence is in present tense. So my analysis :- First it is saying "is declining" (present) and then we jumped into past tense !!!!. Pls help in this .But in GMAT if you want to check first then flow of action is the first priority.
avikar
I selected D between D and E (requires halved but not one-half)

dshweta
IMO D. Such rapidity is wrong. So that leaves us with C & D. D has the correct idiom.
