  1. There quite few tech companies. I am not sure of consulting cos tough. However I do know that lot of people working for top cos firms have RTP as their base and fly from here. Let me know if you need any speicif info. I live in RTP.
  2. I would say almost similar. RC's are much easier. CR's are little longer and convoluted.
  3. First, Thanks a lot for your feed back:) . Your insight/evualuation is very helpful![clap] Indian Male - over represented group. oouch Age:25 - not bad. younger is ok but another year might be better? Planning to apply for FALL 2008 ( will be 27 by Fall 2008) GMAT Score: 720 Q: 50,95% V: 37,83% AWA:4.5 GMAT: ok for top 15 schools. Education: B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from good school in India. (3.85 GPA calculated) - Do not recalculate. Just give us the class rank. What is a good school? IIT? EE is a minus since everyone is EE Second rank in the class. Not IIT but REC M.S. Electrical Engineering from top 20 school in US (3.92) - don't worry about master, school don't care much about master esp its in EE. But GPA makes us think you are a geek... I am worried because I need to present my case why I need another Masters after having Masters in Engineering. Work Experience: 1.5 years Role: Project Lead Work in laboratory automation (interdisciplinary field, applying engineering skills to health care and laboratory research). Duties include getting requirements from customers, provide proposal, realize the system after getting the order and deliver it to the customer (Sales-Service end -to -end) - which company matters a lot. So where were you? In silicon valley startups or blue chips or small company in midwest? Raleigh, NC (medium size swiss based company, one of the leading company in laboratory robotics (narrow field)) 2 Years, reasearch associate during my M.S. ( I am not sure whether this experience counts) - no it doesn't count but put it in your CV anyway. Extra-Curricular: President of ECE association (department student body) during undergraduate days. Orgazined techincal symposiums - ouch... too greeky.. not sure how I will place this. On one hand, it has some leadership thing in there. On the other, its not save the children or art or music which make your app more well rounded I agree. I might have to higlight leadership role, team member role in raising funds for symposium, campaigning about the conference. Member of Engineers for community service (worked on couple projects such as installing computers at non-profit organization and developing website for fund-raising) - please take out "computers" part. You will sound like a geek. I might have to highlight about the purpose of the project (collecting funds for organization (food for needy)) Volunteer to raise funds for local non-profit organizations - better Basically I would like to change my carrer to Finance. I want to do MBA only in top tier schools (top 15). I am planning to apply for FALL 2008. Full-time. I am thinking of completing CFA level 1 before going to MBA. - you should try to get into top 10 if you are a pure career switcher I am concerenced about my chances in getting an admit. Pros Descent score and academic background Sufficient time to apply (early application) Working in interdisciplinary field, brings a different perspective to class Cons Less work experince ( will have 3 years by Fall 2008). I would like to do as soon as I can since I am planning to change career. Already have Masters degree Changing career - true but it depends on your career progression as well. Top 3 - you need some more extracurr and stardust which is not in your profile Top 3 to top 5 - you have a chance but need real execution. K is out given your heavy EE profile. GMATbong, can you please explain what you mean by "real execution" top 5-top 10 - much better chances here (which includes NYU, Michigan etc...) - need some real execution here (pls beef up your ExtraCurr to non tech related stuff). But unlike top 5 schools, some of the school are hard to do career switch top-10 to top-15 - you have a decent chance but again, hard to do career switch here. If I understand correctly, it is difficult to do a career switch at high-ranked univ (greater rank) than at low-rank univ (1-5) Final read: While you have the qualification for most top 10 schools, your app is not well rounded and most reader will think you are a geek(no offends intended). esp. given your master with a 3.93 GPA. Really, they will question your interpersonally skills. Lack of star dust also dimished your chances at HSW. W less so but age slightly affected your changes at W since its a slightly older age school. I am not sure how I can improve my application as a well rounded one before applying to univs as it is not something I can do to simply add to my resume. Can you please suggest/recommend some good schools that match my profile. Thanks again.

Please suggest/advice about anything that I can do that would improve my chances in getting into top 15 schools. Thanks a lot for your time and help!!:)
  5. Quant questions are not too tough. But, I felt that quant questions during my actual GMAT to be a bit more tough than the GMAT prep questions. I started seeing the increase in toughness starting from 3 question itself.
  6. Eventhough some questions might repeat, GMAT sets really helped in improving my timing for verbal. I have actually seen a question from GMAT set in my final exam.
  7. Thanks for all your wishes!! Amit's GMATNetwork (yahoo group) has good amount of material. Ensips is another source (search for GMAT) Svin, please check your email for the notes. Modusoperandi, Yes you are correct regarding GMAT sets. MikeJung, please check you email message for 1000 CR. I am planning to apply for Fall 2008. I just have 1.5 yrs of job experience. JustMe123, I have looked at AWA section 2 days before my exam (may have spent around 4-6 hrs to go through some sample topics). You can get templates at TM forum. One thing that I have noticed is that if you are not so comfortable with writing, its better to look at AWA section atleast 10 days before the exam, so that you have ample time to feel comfortable with it and also you won't feel anxiety before the exam especially when learning new material.
  8. First thanks a lot to TM community as it played a major role in my preperation. OK with the score (expecting around 740) but I am happy that it is over. Prepreration I think, the two key words for doing good at GMAT would be systematic study and practice. I have started two months back and I used to spend 1-2 hrs every weekday and 4-5 hrs on weekend. I am comfortable with Quant. However, I have to ensure that I dont do any silly mistakes. Verbal is one section that I have to conquer. Started with OG10 and went through explanations. Used 1000 SC, 1000 CR material. GMAT sets are one imporant resources. However, I didnot have enough time to complete them. But I highly recommend to complete these as it help in managing time better and questions closely represent the actual GMAT questions. Participate in TM forums and read Erin's, 800bob posts. It helps in improving your understanding of GMAT concepts as well as thinking in the right direction.Thanks Skarya, ph57,....and so on for your posts. Test Experience I went to the center 45 minutes before my appointment. The computer is available so I started the test immediately. AWA Got a good argument and issue. Used template based approach. Took a break. Quant I felt that it is little difficult than GMAT prep quant section. I felt that starting from 5 question, the difficultly level increased and I did not spend more time than required as I want to ensure that I have enough time to complete all questions. I completed the section with 10 min earlier. I felt I did alright. Verbal. I thought I did well. But score doesnot reflect so I might have made some mistakes. RC are pretty easy compared to other GMAT material. SCs are of similar standard to GMAT prep. CRS are alittle longer. Please let me know if you need any other specific information. I have quite some GMAT material and most of the material has already been posted by Clintonn. Please feel free to contact me if you are looking for any specific material. Thanks a lot guys!!
  9. A (200) current long term employees = 70%* 800 = 560 (560-y) = (800 -y) * 0.6 ==> y = 200
  10. 16/21 (E) , I followed the same principle that voc has used.
