  1. Hello Haddy, I understand your concern and it is comforting to know that there is at least one more person in this forum who shares my feelings. I added that comment more as a "safety clause" than anything else. Please do not take it otherwise. Thank you.
  2. This is how I solved it. Total arrangements for 6 people (no restrictions) = 720 Leave M and J. For the rest 4 it is 4! = 24 Now M and J can sit together in the following ways 12, 23, 34, 45, 56 = 5 ways Now since 12 is different from 21, we have 5x2 = 10 ways So the 6 can be grouped with M and J sitting together is 24 x 10 = 240 ways The 6 can be grouped without M and J sitting together is 720 - 240 = 480 ways BTW, haddy, I do not think it is an easy question to answer. Compared to most of the standard ETS type perm/comb, I would rate this moderately difficult, if not too difficult. That said, I would not discourage you from reading more of perm/comb :-)
  3. CTG, Are you aware of a BF CR set that contains a list of BF questions? Or is it that one has to go through all the BF CR questions in TM? Thanks
  4. Please consult this http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38451&highlight=Halley%27s+comet
  5. allergies to is the correct idiom. A and B make a wrong comparison. There can be food allergies to milk. But milk cannot be a food allergy. It is a food. So go with C.
  6. We need compared with to provide a contrast Eliminate B, C, E Between A and D choose D because it maintains the correct parallel form (One baby in four .... one in six)
  7. http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22877&highlight=1930%27s+aircraft Please refer the above link summative modifier is something I believe that these questions test. The use of wings after the comma in B removes any ambiguity about the them that appears in the second clause of the sentence
  8. CA_BS is correct. The increased popularity and availability is plural. Two nouns connected by a conjunction such as and will be construed plural AFAIK. A participle is a verb acting as a noun. perpetuate is a verb, but as is used in the sentence it acts as a noun (perpetuated by geographic location - where perpetuated stands for language variations). Hence perpetuated is a participle. BTW, originating is a gerund and not a participle. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  9. Q15: If x≠0, is x (1) x^2 (2) |x| (1) says 0 (2) says 0 Hence D
  10. y = mx + c ==> y = 3cx + c (From 1) x - intercept is -1/3 (From 2) ==> 0 = 3c(-1/3) + c ==> -c + c = 0 Still does not solve for c, the y-intercept Hence E. Well, I really did not see priety's post in the other thread and it is comforting to note that I am on the right track.
  11. Guys, about the erasable board, I would suggest to get something that is as close to the real one as possible. What I mean is this: it may be better for one to practice with paper unless one is clear about what he/she wants to get. I started working on an erasable white board, thinking that this is what is provided in the test, and of late, I have switched back to paper again, because I dont see the transparencies anywhere close to a white board. Try to get some suggestions from the members who have scored very well in 2006 (like Priety, CTG, mfasfa) and seek their opinion as to what they did for practice. One of my biggest consternations about the new format was the transparencies and now I am feeling much better, given that it is close to the paper in terms of style.
  12. CTG, Many congratulations, although belated Your enthusiasm and vigor have always surprised me. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
  13. It is A. First of all, does not is incorrect. applications is plural and hence need to be matched by a plural verb applications of space based technologies do not Eliminate B and D Eliminate E as it omits "transfer" For C to be correct, we need promise of and inherent difficulties of C, without the of followed by promise is incorrect A uses an adverbial clause making it the best choice, although it contains an extra "the" that is not available in the original sentence.
  14. 1). D Since by definition, a prime number has only 1 and itself as factors, if there is an integer between 2 and root(k) inclusive as a factor, then k cannot be a prime number. Take for example k=100, root(k) = 10 and 5 is a factor of k that is between 2 and 10. 100 is not a prime. Take for example k = 9, root(k) = 3, here there is no integer factor between 2 and 3, but since the question says inclusive we need to take k=3 as a factor. Any perfect square will disprove 1 and a perfect square is not a prime. On the other hand, for any prime number, there cannot be an integer between 2 and root(k) as a factor and root(k) is not an integer for a prime number. Same with 2. For any prime number, there can be no integer that is a factor between 2 and k/2 inclusive. Take 7 for example, k/2=3.5 and the only integer between 2 and 3.5 is 3 which is not a factor of 7. Take 9 for example, k/2=4.5, 3 is an integer that exists between 2 and 4.5 which is a factor of 9. In fact one can take any non-prime number greater than 5 and divide it by 2 and see that there is a factor that exists between 2 and k/2. If the number k is even, k/2 will be even and will be a factor of k. If k is odd, k/2 is a fraction, but there will be an integer between 2 and k/2 that will be a factor of k. 19 E (1) does not say anything about the rate (Insuff) (2) says plane X flies over C before Y. this could happen irrespective of what the relative rates are. Say r = 20m/h and C is at 1 mile from A. A files over C in 1/20 hr. But we do not know about the rate of Y. What if Y is 4000000 m/hr and C is at a distance of 40 miles from B or what if Y flies at 20 m/h and C is at a distance of 40 miles from B. (Insuff) Taking (1) and (2) together, still does not prove that the rate of X is more than that of Y. same reason as above. Hence E.
  15. Congratulations on the great score. Personally I think that 680 is a pretty good and competitive score. Well, to each his/her own. Good luck on your future! Also thanks for the detailed debriefing. I am sure it helped me. I have two questions 1. In the PM to CTG, you had mentioned that an additional level of preparation would be required in co-ordinate geometry. Were you referring to the slope DS question in particular? Did you get many questions in co-ordinate geometry that made you feel that it is more important? 2. How would rate the RC passages? There have been posts of late that have led me (and probably others) to believe that the RC passages were easy and straight-forward. Is this correct in your opinion? TIA,
  16. 200/3 => 66 I think it should be 32 + 1 (because 102 needs to be included)
  17. Thank you for another excellent initiative.
  18. If E were correct, it should say The market for recycled commodities, like the market for aluminium... not commodiities of aluminium
  19. I made a mistake on this one by answering E. Reflecting on it, I realized that it should be A because the refferent "that" is required. The "study" cannot be compared to "works". The "that" stands for studies on "work" performed.
  20. Here are the answers for Verbal set 12 that I have. Can anyone confirm or contend? Thanks 1-E 2-A 3-C 4-E 5-E 6-E 7-B 8-C 9-A 10-C 11-A 12-C 13-E 14-E 15-A 16-E 17-D 18-E 19-B 20-A 21-C 22-D 23-E 24-B 25-E 26-B 27-B 28-A 29-C 30-A 31-D 32-E 33-E 34-C 35-C 36-E 37-C 38-A 39-C 40-D 41-D
  21. Thank you CTG. It has been a great help to the forum.
  22. JASH, Thanks for your patience and explanation. I had no clue when I saw this question first. I feel better now. Sorry - I dont have any other approach. Thanks again,
