  1. There is no fixed number. Each university according to the past statistics gives admits to a x no. of students from which they expect approx y to join out of the x admits given. But an exact figure cannot be given. It changes every year. Hope this helps.
  2. Your profile is good. Good acads and good score too. The universities which you have mentioned are all ambitious. I agree you are in the top 5 % of the class, still none of these is safe for you. The following is my say 1. UMich, Ann Arbor - ambi 2. Columbia -ambi to mod(gettable) 3. Purdue - moderate 4. UPenn - ambi 5. Virginia - ambi to moderate(gettable) I hope it helps.

  6. ruchika, Mystery man is a fall 2007 applicant, he wud have still not send his application packets and you are asking him what are the admits....atleast read the post properly
  7. What are your acads, your UG university? Projects if any?
  8. this too is not workin, can someone please help by giving an active link
  9. I have tried explaining you the things to the best of my knowledge, still if other members reply it would be great. Some tips: => For Toefl prep refer www.testmagic.com , an ultimate resource for preparation. A pool of essays is there, to help u score in essay writing too. I have score a 6.0 in my essay and TestMagic is the one that gets the credit. => For GRE, complete the barrons list atleast 2-3 times. Try doing the BIGBOOK tests.
  10. See I am not sure of this, but I have heard it from a friend. When one starts with the verbal section, if he/she is performing good he/she would get more Non Rc questions in the start and this continues till first 7, 8 questions. So if you get rc after 7-8 questions assume you are doing well and continue with better.
  11. Nene, that was to motivate you. I know what u said is right, but look thru wht was said once again, mite help u :)
  12. @ simba CBT == Computer Based Test IBT == Internet Based test @Kruti where are u from? In mumbai too, CBT is available till 31st july.
  13. Krish, CBT wont cause any problems in ur admission process. You can go ahead and take it and am sure you would be knowing that TestMagic is an amazing resource for toefl preparation :) Goodluck to u
  14. Nene, you have a good score on PP, and yeah its observed that people always score in the same range in the actual test as they score in the PP. When is your GRE btw? and a 690 is an awesome score, but if you have still time to go, why not work on it more and make a 800 in ur verbal too :) and then see those 2 full figures of 800 on both sections in your actual GRE. All the best.
  15. It would be great if you can do your projects from IITs, IISCs or TIFR(Tata Institute of Fundamental Research) whichever is there in your city. But if you at all you cant manage it to either of these(its not simple to get a project here) what you can do is apply from some outhouse projects to a few companies. If you get a good project, that boosts your admit chances, keep that in mind. Its like an ordinary proj wont cause any harm, but a really good project along with your acads and good GRE can help u fetch some good admit. All the best.
  16. @ rajiv Dude check the dates of postings. The thread is of 2004 buddy.
  17. @Prakyadav007 : buddy he is talking of giving the GRE in june/july 07, so the dates are very well available. @thegoat: as many of them have told that you can register at any point of time from 3 months before the exam to one month before the exam. I would suggest think and plan and take the date as early as possible to get yourself a good choice of dates. What I mean to say is if u register early you would have a good option to take up any date, cuz many dates would be open that time. But even if you take a date one month before, there's no harm just that you wont get a choice to take up the date, whichever would be available you will have to settle with it. For me, I took the date arnd Mid march for aug end, i know its a little early but I thought it was the right time to give the GRE in aug end, mainly cuz my final exams got over in 1st week of june. So have arnd 2 months to study for the GRE. And yeah coming to your query of financial aid, there is nothing like that which can affect your chances of an admit.
  18. I think ERIN is doing his best. I mean he is editing the posts advertising ets.org/gre and moving them to shameless plugs, but how many a times a day he should do that or can he do that. This person who is advertising is creating a new ID everytime and doing multiple postings. It gets difficult.
  19. I voted CMU, overall its a gr8 university.
  20. Take your PP(Passport) and your Confirmation No., thats it....NOTHING else.
  21. Hi ochre, Can you please keep us all updated with what kind off responses you get from USEFI. Cuz even am a USEFI Mumbai member abd would like to consult them during my whole applyinh process for fall 2007. Thanks, All the best to u.
  22. Hey Hi Mishu, After registering for the test as said the last screen after u COMMIT REGISTRATION would be the comfirmation screen giving all ur details. You could have even saved that page. Not only that, once the registration is over you immediately get a confirmation mail in the mail account whose address u specified during the registration process. So better check that mail account u must have got a mail from emailconfirmations@thomson.com, dont remember the Id proprerly though check ur email account.
  23. See Rani, First decide when do you want to apply. I think it would be fall 2007.For that you should start sending your application packets from dec onwards, depending on the university deadlines. So it kinda becomes essential to take the GRE test latest by oct. If one sits regularly and works hard 2-3 months of tough preparation should lead a good GRE score. Again good is a relative term. Take your Toefl according to the pattern that suits you, cuz there are many cities where Toefl CBT is still available. So here's a brief outline : -> Give Toefl -> Give GRE -> Start working on your Letters of Recommendations and Statement of Purpose. -> Simultaneously start searching for the universities you would want to apply, find their application deadlines date. -> Get your transcripts ready for your UG college. I think this should give you a clear picture what all you have to do to apply for MS in US universities.
  24. Hey thats great NJIT, I think now ochre can get a clear picture about it.
  25. The email confirmation that you get when you register for a test clearly mentions The PASSPORT is MANDATORY for the people taking test in India. I feel its always safe to go by what they say.
