  1. I think the usage of its is wrong here. Out of the choices E looks the best.
  2. Hi Skarya, Good that u r going to go and apply. I am curious as to what forms you downloaded for the essays ? Throw some light please
  3. Hi Skarya, I feel you shudnt retake the test. I dont see any difference between a 680 and 720. Concentrate on your essays and dont let a 680 ruin u'r essays. Remember MBA app is a triathlon. It consists of GMAT, Workex/Ex curr and essays. It is ok if you are just above avg in one and good in the others. There is no point in being stellar in one and a failure in the other. This is what is really a skewed app. Having a variance in Quant and Verbal is normal. Make up for the "apparent" verbal deficiency through your essays and interviews. The adcomm does understand that people do have a bad hour if not a bad day. So cheer up. If it would be of any help, I scored 680 with Q51 and V29 and AWA-6. My score is far more skewed than yours, but I plan to make it up by highlighting my AWA, essays and of course the interview. I was also devastated but then I better sense has prevailed. Let see !!!
  4. TSEPREP, Took the test in Pleasanton, CA. Test center was pathetic and you wudnt believe that it was inside a COMPUSA with abt 25 others taking the test simultaneously. This was my first attempt and I prepared for 2 days. I bought the online learning material for Reading and listening. Both are useless and they dont mimic the actual test. The actual test is far tougher and I got thru in Reading purely because of my GMAT preparation. I consider myself a fairly good speaker though the score doesnt reflect so
  5. Hi All, I took my test on Nov 4th and got 109 Reading Listening Speaking Writing Total 30 24 26 29 109 Dont know how I screwed up listening though. I was running a temp of 104 degrees during the whole 4 hrs of the test. Feel relieved now.
  6. Hey guys, Lets use this thread for People who are applying for EWMBA/UCLA part time MBA programs. We can exchange ideas abt the apps and make sure we have everything right before we click the submit button. For all you know we may be classmates :-) My Details GMAT - 680 GPA ~3.5 Experience 10 years as of Aug 2007
  7. Thanks guys for all your responses. I am planning to focus on my apps. It took me a few days to get over the 680. After extensive research, I get a feeling that I can still make it in the 2 schools I am considering. The 2 schools are UCLA and UC Berkeley and I am only trying for a part time MBA. Right now I am almost on their average GMAT score and I need to spruce up my essays to make up for my Verbal hit. I also feel that I can crack the interview (If I get a call !!!!) by emphasising on my 10 yr work experience in top notch firms. I still have some hope !!!!! Probably I was meant to get this score to make sure that I wasnt over confident in my essays. Everything happens for a reason. The reason will unravel in March :-)
  8. Hey Guys, I am trying to get into the part time evening weekend program in UC Berkeley. Any of u in the same boat ?
  9. Hi All, I sincerely feel that I owe a debrief to TM. Though my score is worthless, I still feel it might help subsequent GMAT takers. My Background --------------- I am a tech lead at a reputed bank in the US and have around 9 1/2 years of work experience. I am an engineer by qualification and I am pretty good at what I do. I used to be a stud in math 10 years back, but to get back my proficiency was truly a daunting task. My Preparation -------------- I stumbled upon TM sometime in April this year and I started going thru the forum in earnest sometime in May. I spend abt 3 hrs each day in commute and this is the only time I have used to prepare. I have a 17 mo nth old son and I never found a single minute to prepare at home. As far as Quant is concerned, I would say that MaxGMAT is the one that comes closest to the real GMAT. Though it might sound stupid, I would say practice getting comfortable with numbers. I used to test the numbers I used to see on licence plates for divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11. I used the concepts of critical reasoning in office and I truly felt that it was paying off. My weakest part was SC and I remained the weakest till the end. D-day ------ AWA was ok though at the end of the hour I felt the time was too little to construct a good opinion. I hope to make a 5+. Quant was brutal. I spent every bit of my thought process to get over the first 5 questions. I had lost 20 minutes for the first 5 questions. Then questions started to ease a bit, but the last 10 questions were brutal. On hindsight, I still feel, I should ahve taken it easy in the last 10. Though my score might sound lame, I was aiming for a 780. Disaster struck in the first question of verbal. I got a long winding drab RC abt a Pakistani writer. I spent 15 mins for the first 4 questions. My brain almost ceased functioning after the first 10 questions. I started to get the feeling that I was fighting a losing battle since I got no BFs and I got 2 sentence completions. I had 10 mins for the last 8 questions and that summed up my verbal performance. My Suggestions --------------- 1. Dont try to eek out that extra point score in quant. It isnt worth it. 50 is good enuff and I dont see any difference between a 50 and a 51. 2. I feel schools look just for a well rounded performance and not a superstar performance in one and a moderate one in the other. 3. Preserve your mental stamina. I cant stress more on this. 4. There are many other web sites than TM for such discussions. In my opinion, TM is the best as you have stellar people like 800Bob, Manish, and GMAT-help. Understand the concepts and not just ways to solve a problem. Remember in TM, we discuss the methodology and concepts in detail before we arrive at a concensus. I truly 800Bob's absence in the last 70 odd days. 5. If Math is not your forte, try getting comfortable with numbers. English isnt my native language but I fought it out hard. 6. Take your GMAT as early as possible. I cant stress more on this. It had been extremely tough to balance office work with personal life. The more you defer taking your GMAT, the lower your score. I havent taken a single day off from work and added to that my son suffered a fracture a week back. In all these testing times, I had squeezed in the GMAT. I truly want to thank my wife for supporting me all through this. Please remember that your frame of mind is extremely crucial on D-day. I had too many things running thru my mind that day, I was totally exhausted halfway thru my verbal. Last but not the least, do not try to go for 51 in quant. 50 in quant is more than sufficient and 40+ in verbal is what one should aim for.
  10. I feel totally dejected and frustrated. I feel spending too energy in Quant screwed me totally. I was exhausted half way through my verbal. A biggest disaster of all was the fact that my 1st question in verbal was an RC and that too a damn too lengthy and dry one. It ws abt a Pakistani writer and her writing styles. I wish even my worst enemy doesnt get that RC !!!. Its been 10 yrs since I have graduated from college and I truly tried to pull it off. But in the end something had to go wrong !!!!! I am applying for only part time MBA and I doubt whether this score would even warrant a viewing of my application by the adcomm. Will post my debrief if people really want to know how not to do GMAT.
