  1. you are a sweetheart ! I've been very snappy since this exam (kind of always in my head !!) I have already invested $$$ in the princeton class and not to mention the 3 GMAT tests ...so I'm thinking ONE LAST CHANCE ? since its not too late for the Oct 2004 admissions process.
  2. Thanks Anurag... thats a good thought ..but I'm not sure how useful it will be since I want to change my career path. Want to migrate from technology (programming and analysis) to finance (hedge funds and portfolio management stuff).
  3. Ursula , thank you for your advise. I'm surprised they let you take your earplugs in ...!I did not know we could do that .. .. In all my practise tests I have scored between 650 and 690 and I was hoping to get around that . I need atleast a 660 ballpark to apply to NYU and Yale . With 610 I can't imagine applying to these 2.
  4. Wanted to share my experiences with all of you although I must say that at this point I'm totally disheartened . I first gave the test in Nov 2003 . 540 was the score. (without the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip].. and after 10 years of graduating and prepared for 4 weeks) Then I decided not to loose heart and prepared once again with the OFFICIAL GUIDE and KAPLAN books . Gave the test in Jan 2004. 600 (Q(43) V(29) . Since my verbal was terrible I decided to enroll in the Princeton Review classes from April - May . Thought of giving it one more last try. 3rd test on 27 May 2004 :- 610 Q(44) V(31) . However I had a terrible experience on the day of the test . There was a music fair going on right below the window of the desk of my workstation . this was in New York . The head sets were absolutely useless . I wrote a compaint at the test center and sent a mail to ETS regarding the test enviroment not being congenial for testing . I asked them to refund my test or provide me with a vocher to re-test. The reply from ETS is very very disappointing :- they said that you should have altered the supervisor and they would have provided you with ear-plugs. !!!! So no refund and no vocher either. Where is the time to deal with this when the clock is ticking on the test ?? I has just started the verbal when all this happened. Now I dont know what to do ? Frankly I have lost the steam for re-testing but I can't get it out of my head either!! Any advise welcome ... Thanks
  5. I think the ans is B, Author is basically saying that Meteorologists will blame the model if the forecast is wrong and this claim can't be evaluated. "B" shows that there is a direct link between weather forecast and models . does this make sense ? Besides I think C, D and E are beyond the scope of the argument ..
  6. Hi ... I have scheduled the test in May -end . My prev score was 600 (Q 43 and V 29) (in Jan) ...Feeling terrible about Verbal ... Some-how I can't focus on the Verbal it seems to keep getting more complicated... any books you recommend ? You have made a remarkable improvement in your verbal from 28 - 37 . Please advise.
  7. My 2 cents :- Conclusion :- Crime is up Premise :- because of lenient sentence The way to solve this is ASSUMPTION Q :- negate each ans choice and see that the conclusion holds true.. A, B D are out of scope .(we dont care about other states , white collar...and election of judges) C :- If police officers were laid off ..crime would increase.... So answer is C. Does that make sense ?
  8. i agree with C . I dont know if this helps anyone but one way to solve these assumption questions is to negate the ans choices and see if the conclusion still holds. The workers will go on strike if they dont get a hike in wages , so the subsidiaries will be sold.
  9. I think the answer is E . Consider this as a 2 -3 split (devastation and devastating)... So its either A or E since "devastation and enslavement" are plural ..use have decimated...instead of has decimated
  10. I agree with A . When you believe in something (supersition) and it happens you say "see I knew this would happen" but if it does not happen then you forget about your superstitious belief.. e.g. if you wear your lucky shirt to a game and you win .. you say that because I wore the lucky shirt I won but if you would have failed you would not blame/credit the shirt ... Does that make sense ?
  11. I think that the answer is D. Please post the correct answer
  12. Congrats for the great score . [banana] what do you recommend for Verbal ? Books and Classes ?
  13. Wow , that's wonderful . Congrats . How was your prep different this time than last ? Any books or courses you would recommend ?
  14. The GMAT score report shows the scores for both the attempts on the report .
  15. Wow , that's a wonderful score . Congrats . Please let me know what kind of Kaplan class did you take ? The data bank or the group lessons . ? Do you think they gave enough tips and tricks on the Verbal Section ?
  16. Thank you guys for the words of encouragement. I'm going to take a 1 month break and then start again ..concentrating purely on Verbal. Have been thinking of enrolling in the Kaplan classes , since Erin does not have classes here in New Jersey ? any inputs on that ?
  17. I just finished my GMAT and the score was 600 Quant 43 and Verbal 29 . I had only studied from the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] this time, The last time I had given it in Nov , the score was 540, Q37 and V27 .That time I had only studied from the Barron's guide. Can someone Please advise on how to improve my Verbal. ? pretty disappointed . Kind of missed to boat for 2004 admissions.
  18. Congratulations on your great score. what material did you use to perpare ? Kaplan and [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] ? did you study SC from any special book? thanks
  19. Congratulations on the big improvement. [banana] I have been reading stuff that said that you can't improve your score more than 40 - 50 points from the first time , so I'm definately glad to find that it helped you . I had a score of 540 without the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] and now I'm going to retake it on 3 Jan with the prep from the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. how many months and hrs of preparation did you put in ? Was the Quant the same or more difficult than the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] ?
  20. I think you should definately take it again . Look at it this way even if you miss the deadlines for this year , if you have a GOOD GMAT score you can apply anytime in the future But with this score its a waste of time and money to apply to the top B-Schools. I'm in the same boat too . I had a score of 540 in the Nov. GMAT. I'm preparing for it again and without preparing throughly there is no point giving it again. wish you luck and don't loose heart. Take a BREAK and start afresh. Also practice 3 hrs test on the Computer and FOCUS .
  21. Congratulations on your wonderful score. I'm scheduled for the test on 16 and I'm very confused and nervous because Kaplan and PP are giving me 2 very different feedbacks. PP1 :- 720 Paper Test 14 : 670 (however I think this is biased because all the comprehensions were from the OG). KP1 :- 560 KP2 :- 540 KP3 :- 520 Can't decide wether I should postpone the test or go for it. also I have noticed that towards the end of test I start to loose focus and although I can read stuff I can't understand it . Did you ever face this and any solutions ? Thank you
