  1. congrats hades! i don't understand why i am being interviewed? anyone has any idea about it?
  2. today, i was invited to madrid for an interview that will take place on May 7, 2010.
  3. It seems that the incoming class of UCLA for Fall 2010 is 36. It was only 20-22 last year. So, what is it supposed to mean for us? Higher attrition? Lower second year funding? Excess demand for TAship after first year? Stronger/weaker competition? Facing a shortage of advisers in the future? And also is there anyone here who is going to UCLA for Fall 2010? Mine is completely dependent on visa (and I will be able top apply for it end May at earliest).
  4. i e-mailed judith today but she was out of office. so, i guess this mean that i didn't reply the school before the deadline and i am automatically out of game. who knows...
  5. sorry i would also ask the same question. if i am not wrong, you were admitted to northwestern (a top 10), right? and i'll second jeeves that PSU and BU are ranked pretty much the same.
  6. i can pm you later when i find some time...
  7. with "end up" i guess publicecon refers to placement... so, academically, you can end up in a pure econ department with a phd from booth, i guess??
  8. at the worst case scenario, you'll lose this particular school and no other school will have any info about what happened this year (i experienced this in a different way this year). if you are even more unlucky than this, then one person from the adcom of this school will be in the adcom of another school you apply in the future, which will still be very unlikely...
  9. mine is under reviews as well, even though I got rejected a couple of days ago. however, i applied to MRes not MSc.
  10. what is wrong with only thinking of yourself? it would be unwise to decline the offer for an uncertain job offer. the only problem here is asking for opinion in this forum for such a thing. there is no dilemma, the answer is already clear...
  11. yes, he will accept the job offer if he is offered, but what if he is not offered? he has all the rights to secure himself. in such a case, he has to think only about his own situation. i am sorry but i dont think that it is unethical. because, in this case, he still has some chance of going to phd and he does not have to think about anyone else. so, i think, you shouldn't judge him so harshly...
  12. i will not write anything here unless uncle sam gives my visa on time this year:(
  13. no, i will not say anything since i really don't know these issues. pretty much comparable schools i guess. but i would not take whatever people say here very seriously. in last two years, i realized that some schools are really overrated here (like minnesota) and some are underrated. i think someone's views have just spread in time and became the common sense... so, do whatever you think it is best for you and go wherever you'll be happy. and, btw, i heard that san diego is a great city.. i hope you do the best in the end and of course, i will be happy if i see you at ucla in fall..

  16. Institution: LSE Program: MRes/PhD Economics Decision: Rejected Funding: NA Notification date: 4/11/10 Notified through: E-mail Comments: A rejection letter on late sunday? Interesting... BTW, I always find LSE rejection letters quite straightforward, direct and a bit rude...
  17. typical for many european programs such as tinbergen, pompeu fabra, cemfi and some scandinavian programs...
  18. now i can see why the schools are so much reluctant to defer the admission! i was angry with ucla last year for not deferring but i can now understand their point...
  19. Institution: Univeristy of Maryland, College Park Program: PhD, Economics Funding: (waitlisted) Declination date: 04/09/10 Reason & Comments: location... Institution: Boston University Program: PhD, Economics Funding: None Declination date: 04/09/10 Reason & Comments: no funding...
