I am still relatively new to the IT industry. I have some tech support experience, but my goal is to become a software developer/engineer. I got my BS in information technology, but had a hard time landing any entry-level software jobs with this, which is what prompted me to start applying for master's programs.
I haven't taken the GRE, so I applied to Colorado State's MCS, Penn State's master of software engineering and UIUC's MCS. I was rejected by UIUC, but got into PSU and CSU, and chose CSU because computer science seems to be more desirable to employers than software engineering (even for SE job postings), and PSU costs twice as much anyway!
I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and take the GRE so I can apply for more schools, or should I just go to CSU? My main goal is to break into the software development industry. I don't have aspirations to move onto a Phd. I'm wondering if the GRE would be a waste of time anyway since I may have a difficult time getting into any top CS schools with an undergrad in IT instead of CS. Any advice from people in the industry would be much appreciated!!!
