heyy,... I was admitted to a PhD program in Economics. I would like to read something before starting the school, because I feel a little bit unprepared. Could somebody recommend me some books about Applied mathematics (I think Schaum's is good ), Micro or Econometrics? What would you suggest me to read or do before going to study in USA?

I was admitted to Clemson University with a teaching assitant position. I got full tuition remission and 15 K stipend per year. How much money should I have in my bank account? Do I have to cover the living expenses? This is a part of the email I received : " University tuition, fees and health insurance costs are subject to change without notice. You should not plan to obtain a graduate student assistantship or other financial aid after your arrival if you have not already been offered such assistance. If you are offered an assistantship, a portion of your tuition will be waived by the university. In lieu of tuition, the Graduate Assistant will be required to certify the current amount for fees ($2,040.00 per year), living expenses ($12,239.00 per year) and books & supplies ($940.00 per year). I want to learn STATA program... With which book should I start? I was looking on Amazon, but i do not which one to buy.

I have a problem when I instal this program... they ask me to install Shockwaves player 10. I did it, but the program still does not work they tell me the same thing: to install that player :(( Does anybody had this problem? What can i do?

my class rank is 10%, while my rank in my field is 25% (i am on the 33 place out of 134)

@ tobeornottobe I calculate my GPA (with the website mentioned by you), but the problem is that they do not give me A+ or B+ All my grades were A or B (i have grades between 7-10 on a scale of 1 to 10). They should not give me an A+for a 10? Anyway it is 3.48 a low average?

I would like to hear some samples which were graded with a scor of 4 in the speaking section.. Does anybody know where i can i found them?

I just want to ask you if you believe that the high responses level in the speaking seactions (in Kaplan software) are graded with a 4 ...

I am from Europe and my diploma is only in my language(i have to translate it, any idea?). My transcripts are in English and we have a different grades scale (1-10). Washington State University asked me to send my transcripts via www.wes.org... (which is expensive `200$ and 30$ for each additional order) The other universities did not specific how to send them. Is there any other posibility? Please help me....

I think that your essay is very good, except the introduction and conclusion. Beside mentioning you preference you have to state a general idea too. In the introduction you need to have a "hook" (to make the reader enjoy reading your essay).... i wait you feedback for my essay. Information on the Internet :)

All the universities ask for original transcript of your degree. My notes and subject are in English. I have to translate just the diploma. Where can I do this? It is ok if I do it in my country? And all have to be officialy transcripted?

I wanted to finish an economic PhD, but i have a low GRE 1340 (Q 750, V 590, Aw 4 ) so i was looking at this kind of PhD. How hard is to be accepted as a TA in this PhD? Is anybody from this forum who is interested in Public Affairs, Public Policy, and Public Administration PhD Programs? I saw graduate-schools.phds that the average of quantative is very low around 600 in the most universties.

I have a problem... I deleted my GRE confirmation, so i cannot acces my account. I called the center where i took my exam and they told me to contact the regional GRE. I sent them an email, but they didnt answer... What should I do? when I can call them to find out my results? after 2 weeks? DO i have to call the regional GRE (i`m from Europe) thank you

does somebody know the top of canadian economics PhD? I am not intersted in top 40 :(... it is easier to be accepted in Canada than in US? I am from Europe
