  1. one more perspective: i think usc is highly rated in usnews cos of its phd programs..granted the faculty is world class and that in CS esp SE a lot of 'gods' work there..but there is little info abt the CS Masters degree.. a) no aid b)not sure of being accepted by a prof to do research c) 700 masters students in CS(as the tronics dean revealed on his trip here) but the CS classes are supposed to be very challenging and the internship scene is excellent..at least in CS it is one of the best phd univs
  2. not sure if all u guys are talking of econ schools..but there are quite a few top schools tht offer spring apps yes most aid decisions are made in fall but unless you really require to aid to make the trip to US and are sure u will get aid if u app in fall it really is fine to app in spring
  3. afaik, it is UT austin u are talking about...UT arlington doesnt figure in the comp engg top 60 in us news and definitely not in the top 30 in CS
  4. yeah the teaching indicated is questionable..it could only be for the analog design course too..actually their site is not too informative on the Ms except that they offer a variety of MS programs...heavily course oriented. didnt know that the profs were so negative on ms students wanting to do research, maybe someone can clarify after all its a top-20 and yeah i have an admit from there:p
  5. yeah you shud call them up and ask afaik penn state has this pre-app thingy and the grad sec gets back within a couple of days.. at the same time send the same mail and cc to a couple of ppl in charge of grad admissions
  6. I agree with suja_84 It really doesnt matter if its a phd or an asst prof..in fact if you look at many US univs the undergrad classes are taken by teachers with just an MS...now if you have done an excellent project under such a prof or if you have scored the highest under this prof..it makes more sense to take a reco from this person ..rather than a tenured prof who would hardly know you and would write a generic reco instead..yeah this is my opinion
  7. Hey elektrotechnik33 if that is your method to estimate how cool a person is..then as far as i have seen the profiles at test magic yours is one of the coolest:) Cheers and best of luck

    50

    yeah! it is mind boggling..congrats
  9. nokturnalmortum : i didnt read your post initially... i think you too better retake the test..600 is minimum for most univs for CS
  10. @vandana_Gre better retake the toefl as reactor said its a disqualifier, i have seen many univs having cut-off upto 243 for toefl(assuming u r from CS), wont hurt to just schedule it and write it again...min prep required Visa procedures are too random to speculate..but to be on the safer side..you can rewrite the exam
  11. Hi I have seen your resume on an earlier thread. there is no reason for dissapointment.. there is no black list of any sort...the profs there apparently dont reply to you directly..the same thing happened to one of my friends..if you believe you deserve to be there you must apply. the results are not for you to decide. afaik, your credentials are excellent and you must app there
  12. hey Straightforward:: if ur willing to shell out abt 55-60k$ for an MS ... USC is the best among the lot(=> NO AID for MS)... but if aid matters then CWRU internships in USC are very good, apparently fall 2004 batch every student of CS landed an internship (src: a class mate who went to USC) CWRU internship status is unknown to me fyi, USC has abt 600-700 grad masters studentsin CS and a similar number in trical tronics..
  13. hey ankur congrats[clap]

    Thanks to TM

Hi I wrote the test on Sep 17th from India for the first time. I scored 50.:) I didnt use any book for my preparation. The only material I had was from here in TM. [clap] Moreover I remember not finishing the Picture Story , I was still at caption 5:crazy: and the immediate next question I finished my speaking with 10 seconds to spare:crazy:. This was all because I didnt have a digital watch and hence couldnt keep time. So if you guys dont finish the questions don't despair! Thanks again Joshmachine
  15. yes it can be done..have heard of people doing this before...apparently its not so difficult.. best to ask some indian students there!
  16. i wrote the test in bangalore on sept 17th and still havent received my score. is there anyone from india who has received their score?
  17. i totally agree with GuyWithNoName in his post "give credit where it deserves". good one . I have no opinion abt Khoa and frankly, I dont give a rats *** :-)

    Tips

    :D TIP: Read previous posts!!
  19. dont use ur intuition. use a digital clock. the latter is :Dgenerally more accurate. strange but when i tested in india there was no intimation as to whether we could use a timer or one was given on the test.. i had to use my analog watch:doh: 20 minutes. 9 questions. whole process of instructions and hullabaloo abt an hr you just speak into a phone.. responses are recorded and scored later.. no live scores several ppl do( at least in india) and they do impede each other
  20. theres a person named ranji on the grp..saw many ppl talk abt his profile but could not find his profile anywhere after going thru many posts  can someone please tell me what his profile was? isnt there any1 apping in Spring here?
  21. @sulochana; thanks a lot but i thought there were 9 questions on the TSE, i looked a the sample test on the ETS site and there were 9 questions am i missing sth here?
  22. @oswong and @ange guys, i'll do that, i just wish i could 'connect' with some ppl in an earlier time zone to mine.. i would be thrilled meanwhile can someone help me out on the prep time for the questions on the TSE afaik this is the prep time for q's 1. 60 seconds for the picture 2. Opinion: No prep time 3. Opinion: No prep time 4. Opinion: No prep time 5. No prep time 6. Graph: 15 seconds to examine: 45 secs to prep 7. Office 'Banter': 60 secs prep (?) not sure 8. remedial action on phone: 60 seconds? to prep.. not sure 9.Flowchart: prep time? Thanks and ATB Josh
  23. Hi I am taking the test in India on the 17th of September, early morning... could any person from phillipines, aus or any other place in an earlier time zone let us know when he/she is taking the test on this day @kollurmurthy: Great work sir keep at it this last week!! Thanks
