  2. Hello Everyone, I, like millions in this world todays, have one question whose answer is priceless. The doubt has haunted us and created confusion in many of us. Here I put the question. We are on the brink of selecting our career choice. We want to know whether we should specialize in one branch/field or we should be versatile and conversant in many fields. Friends, please express your view, support your stands and clear us of this engima. "Some people advice us to specialize while others advice us to be versatile. What do you think which is better? Support your answer with reasons and examples." This could be one of the future topics in a TOEFL essay....But tell us in advance. Pami
  3. hello Dingus! Surely I will help you. About line problems, I had not prepared anything about them, as no one who gave GRE before me had got so many line problems and such high level problems. I guess my engineering mathematics knowledge helped. I am not sure wher you can find those problems, but you can refer engineerign maths parts 1 and 2 books, if you are really keen on those. I dont know for sure from where I found the solutions, they were so instantaneous, imagine solving problems at a speed of 1and 1/2 min for one problem. If you have any specific doubts in line problems, we all will try to solve that, just post here. Best luck for your exam and do continue asking me questions. pami
  4. Hello guys, I dont know why everyone is complaining about the poor quality in listening section of TOEFL. Actually I had no problems. The sound was crystal clear. Anyway, its serious if some of you are facing problems. I suggest you contact the TOEFL site administrator. May be they might help. But to tell you the truth, I had no problems whatsoever. Hope this helps. pami.

  6. I think your range is good. 12 - 29. I suggest you dont go indepth about whats the scoring system, just try hard to answer every Q correctly and practice the practice tests online/barrons, u know those answers and so you know where you can improve. I think pp is just for testing, no practice. Anyway, best luck. pami
  7. MikeBG, I used only barrons and powerprep software. But yes , I have viewed the site mentioned by mishum2000, umm but unfortunately I found that out from asad after I took the toefl test, so I coudnt use it. But I have seen it, and have tested on it. I can tell you its good. Actually more than enough. Just be positive in your approach while giving toefl, and am sure you will hit bulls eye! pami
  8. All that matters is that you are satisfied! wow, I am happy for you! Hope you get the univ of your choice. pami
  9. Come on, thats a wonderful score! You will surely crack GRE also. Keep the mind set right in GRE, just like YOU DID IN TOEFL! Congrats. pami
  10. Hi tans, Pros of your essay: Good examples - Children, Women. Good Organization. Cons: Offline in 4th Paragraph, where you say that small shildren have to work in India. It is true, but the question is do you agree? Remember you are on the side where you must agree that one should do things sometimes which they do not enjoy. This example looks sort of offbeat. You are commiting a mistake by using high flwon vocabulary, same as I did. No need to use these words like "patronize, myraid..." unless you are sure of their contextual meaning. You would get 6/6 in TWE even without using these words, so why risk? Grammar, you need to improve on that: " In our every day life some times we may have to encounter some works that will not seem to be enjoyble to us." You could have written, Our everyday life contains some kind of work that does not seem enjoyable to us. some others : "So, they are to get up being compelled by their parents" "In my childhood I was too unwilling to drink milk though it is extremely important to take milk for strengthening the bones" Finally, I suggest you to make your introduction and conclusion impressive. Include proverbs, etc. Dont make it too flashy, keep it simple, but cute and impressive. I would rate a 4/6 for this essay. Good performance on first essay. pami
  11. Wow, 267! and 5.5 in TWE! I hope I ate what you ate on the test day! keep that up buddy! pami
  12. Thank you bnm and nechitoaia. bnm, even I had problems with Listening section, but I suggest you practice more, that will surely help. I got the essay topic in which I had to choose where I like to live, small town or big city. I chose small town, citing many advantages like less pollution and health problems, pleasant atmosphere, no hassels, people caring for each other, people celebrating festivals together, less costly, and many more reasons. Frankly I dont remember much now, what I have written. But I guess 5 paragraphs are enough, with good organization, grammar and logical points/concepts. Hey its easy man, I am sure you will crack it any time. Just concentrate hard. Best Luck. pami
  13. Mike! wow man you are on your way of achieving your target score - 250! What else do you want? Its great joy to achieve what one is aiming for. Enjoy man. Even the most strict universities wont object with that score. pami

  16. Thank you Rashmi, Kinshuk, asad, richie and dingus! Hey great to hear from so many friends! By the was rashmi I just prepared for 1 week from Barrons, and to tell you the truth I downloaded the Powerprep software the day before I gave the real TOEFL, cause I didnt get the CDs from ETS. So not much preparation. Even I didnt do the jargons of grammar, just used my gut knowledge and still scored a 12-29 in it. It is indeed easy, just go for it rashmi. Richie, I am waiting for you essay! Where were you all these days? And between, when is your test? I thought you have scheduled before mine. If anyone needs any help, feel free to contact me any time :) Take care you guys. pami

  21. Hello Kinshuk, Congrats for your triumph. well, I know how we practiced essays :) . It was really nice working with you. I am sure you iwll get into your dream university. Just keep the good work going. pami
  22. keerthi, Hi, dont worry much about GRE. Okay? Take it easy. You are gonna do well! Now, about Rcs, well, they are tough. Expect them to be tough! The only mantra that I can tell you regarding RCs is  Practice  . The more you practice, the better. Always tell your self, that you are improving in Rcs. One day you will realize, how simple it is. Practice 10 Rcs each day, so by the time you rach 25th oct, you are 200 Rcs ahead and am sure you will do well. Only thing to eb careful about is that learn from your mistakes in those Rcs, improve and then go out to beat the hell out of those :) . pami
  23. Hi kinshuk, Well, as you know, I was sort of busy with TOEFL, so now I can reply your post. See, I got almost 8-10 line and slope problems. I dont exactly rememebr the kind of problems, but i can tell you what they looked like. one was regarding finding infinite roots of x and y from 10 equations, in which each choice contained two simulatneous equations and we have to find out which of these equations had roots of x and y infinity. Then, two equations were given of a certain line with c as its intercept and I hade to solve both of these equations and find out what was the value of c and compare of which it was bigger. Then there was a line drawn from x = 6 to y = 6, and the area below was curved, so we had to find out what was the equation of any line which lied in the area mentioned. well, I remember these much only, but I will tell you more as soon as possible. As you see all were difficult. Had I not done line problem concepts, I would sure have got a mediocre score in quants. pami.

yeah, I have gone through where you are now. GRE-TOEFL. Okay. Here are the asnwers: a. A week, but depends. You are the best judge of yourself - your abilities. So I suggest, you buy the books, look at the syllabus, and then decide. b. It does, but not much. Hers is a CAUTION : dont use your word list knowledge in TOEFl essay. It affects negatively. But the list does help, specially in reading section. c. You can go to the thread in this TOEFL forum posted by me. There you will get all the suggestion regarding books. Everyone here is really helpful. I used the barrons and powerprep cds, thats all. d. 213 - 250 are decent scores and 263 is the highest cut off score that I have seen some univ ask. So most probably 263 is the score you should call a decent score and on this score you will glide through your admission process. best luck. pami
  25. Great scores, I am really happy that you got that score. best luck for everything. I am sure you will do wonderful. Pami.
