  1. You are fine. Try again Gre just for peace of your mind, but you studied New Zealand, so you should be capable to work well in English. So in your case the verbal and aw parts are even more discounted. You will be fine I think
  2. Yeah with that you most likely get nowhere in top 20-30
  3. Well the big issue is the story of your department. People don't like to take many chances, good people from France you can get in Toulouse and PSE and Politechnique , the others are always question marks. It greatly depend on your recommenders. But your profile seems very robust, and everybody knows French system boils down grades. Your rank is what matters.
  4. I honestly don't have particular insight to give, but I would retake. In general, ( I repeat despite the fact I am in LSE I don't know if you are dismissed or not based on it, as I have no clue about admission procedures here), schools don't like people that can't succeed in taking an "accessible" grade in standardised tests. EME is seen as a platform to send students to PhD abroad or to LSE PhD. They don't take chances ordinarily.
  5. It is not bad, and can help cover that track. Invest in Math seriously, and standard PhD courses. I think you should be aware that you are running from behind. That doesn't mean you don't get a great placement, you will not impress some maybe you will be picked by others. This is how the game works. Nobody here can give you more than some perceptions from the past.
  6. It matters for you to proceed in the program. The rest, nobody cares. If you have ideas and good job-market papers that matters, and if you can present them brightly. Finally what really matters is if academia knows you, how and by whom.
  7. It is hard to know ask people that went to those schools. Your master thesis will help. Regarding masters in economics, don't start collecting them just for an objective that you don't know if it contributes well. Focus on doing something more mathematical if you want to improve your profile. Regarding your chances, I can't assess that much.
  8. You should try again if this is what you want. There are years and years, and if you were at waitlists of some universities trying again is no arm. But remember that universities like to have young bright people, and that as time goes by, you are not improving your application, you are just deviating from some of their standards (there are exceptions of course). So, or you dramatically improved it, your your improvement will be greatly discounted by your reapplication process.
  9. You will be fine, your profile is stellar, so secure you apply to at least 10 schools, pick 5 in top 5-10 and the others in top 10-20. You should be fine. And as long as your professors secure you are bright and great, I don't see any problem with your profile. Your lack of experience is natural as you are young, and everybody is not expecting econométricas on your profile. But your preparation is vast and solid, and that is what matters.
  10. Well if you want my opinion, as an international student, how went to LSE last year, but had offers from the US from top 10-20 schools, your profile is not bad, indeed it is good, but you may be over-reaching a bit. First, for europeans, it seems that at least attendance on master programs are fundamental for any top 10-20 to serious consider you (except for genious guys, but they are great exceptions), even accounting for the fact your program is 4 years. Second your math preparation do not stood out to compensate the rest. You have a strong core track, definitely well perceived in the U.S. (but you are not an engineer or physics guy). And your GRE, in your case you want it to improve it. Despite this the most important issue for people like you, is out of our hands - the connections, relevancy, and willingness of your recommenders to get you in.
  11. From my experience, your profile is competitive at top 20-30 but maybe too unperfect to get in top20. You have two big options. 1 is to try out an internship or a serious research project before going on to PhD, the other is to apply, defenitely try from top 10 onwards and then see what you have. But you seem young, I would rather try to polish my profile before trying to go. But it is completely up to you and to what you consider good for you.
  12. I have been accepted but I will only say no by first week of April, as I need to see if other funding offers are materialized. But most likely I will be rejecting. Good luck for those waiting
  13. I would say yeah it is... but zero hope on this side.
  14. I know, but at this point, without much safeties, I start considering that it is going to be a devastating season for me.
