  1. Can't you enroll in a Master to take PhD level courses? What's your GRE quant score? Forget about applying this year. Prepare yourself to apply next year.
  2. I ask this question for a theory professor once. There is some basic knowledge and the rest is pick as you go. By base knowledge i mean: You need to know well Linear Algebra and Real Analysis, and you need some introduction to Optimization, Measure Theory, Functional Analysis and maybe some Stochastic Process.
  3. What is the perfect PhD candidate? What are the mathematical, programming habilities, publication record and etc?
  4. Yeah i hope i got at least a 4 points jump.
  5. I have a different question and don't want to create a new topic about the same subject. I'm international student by the way. Before any prep, i make a simulation and get around 162Quant. What's the average boost of GRE by studying for it first time? Can i expect something like >5 points?
  6. I thought it was obvious. How much money you spend, and specify if you are international student or not.
  7. Average video graphics, average RAM memory, good GPU. The intel 5500u is a very good choice, search an i7 5500u
  8. Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability, Mathematical Statistics, Real Analysis, Calculus in Manifolds. You need to know at least this. If you don't know, learn. If possible, take courses in this subjects.
  9. If you get +166 GRE and your letter for the top1500 professor was amazing, try top 10
  10. bro, stay 1 year more in college and make a hell out of math courses. Only two courses in math and then jump intro Micro and Analysis during PhD is suicide
  11. [banana] In this case, if you're alreading making your foundations, i would recommend to jump to that books i said ASAP[banana]
  12. LOL at Simon and Blume. It's really too weak. Algebra Linear - Hoffman Calculus - Apostol Analysis - Rudin Differential Equations - Gandolfo That's four books are a good introduction to mathematics
  13. I will hide any reprobations, will only show Grades of the classes i suceed.
  14. I would do a Master before apply. In fact i'm doing a Master in Economics and then i will do a Master in Mathematics to apply.
  15. Also another questions: Honors during high school (like national mathematic medal) can be included?
  16. This is not the question Tutonic. Question is less than 10% of grades are A, and less than 40% are A or B. So i don't have the same pletora of A's than a person in a country of grade inflation like US.
  17. If Universities in your country don't do grade inflation, will you still be judge by your GPA? I mean, a GPA of 3,2 is top student in a lot of places around the world, but in US it's average or below. When a university say they want GPA 3.0 or 3.x or higher, are the message just for American students? :shy:
