  1. Hi Kekonomist! Yes, MS Econ. I've been working closely with the Warwick student support coordinator for my region (North America) to find external financial support or RA work. She was the one who contacted the Econ department and let me know about the above opportunities. They're really nice and a big help, so if you can find the student support coordinator for your region, they'll advocate for you and update you when rounds of scholarships relevant to your situation come out! Also, I was wondering if you've had any update regarding the waitlist at PSE?
  2. Hi Kekonomist, Congratulations on your acceptances! I'm sorry I don't have any useful advice for you (I'm also in the application/decision making process) but wanted to post since I'm having a similar choice of schools: Warwick/BGSE and also waitlisted at PSE (but for PPD). I'm not sure if this would factor into your decision, but I just got an email by Warwick responding to my request for RA roles and apparently once we enrol we can apply for one of the following jobs: (1) Admistrative Assistant (2) Research: Data Work (3) Research: Analytical Work or (4) Teaching Administration. Best of luck and crossing fingers we get off the PSE waitlist!
  3. Any idea about the UBC MA Econ program? Emailed them yesterday but no reply
  4. Hi all, I've recently been accepted to SFU's MA program (20k funding) and BGSE (no funding). I'm waiting for UBC, which is my top choice, but it's likely that I'll have to make a decision before I get to hear back from UBC. My main issue is that I'm mostly self-funding graduate school, so I'm trying to balance quality and cost. My question is, can I (and if so, how) leverage for funding at BGSE, given my SFU offer? I'm hesitant to do this because from my understanding they are not very comparable programs, and I'm also unsure about how to even begin an email like this. Additionally, if I do risk declining both offers in the hope that I get into UBC, in your opinion, is it a relatively safe-bet, since I have gotten into SFU with funding, that I'll get into UBC (even if without funding), or are the programs too different to extrapolate too much for an acceptance to SFU? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much :)

  6. Hi! I wanted to ask for advice regarding the pre-doctoral role and didn't think a new thread would contribute too much. So here's my question: I have been encouraged to apply to a strong pre-doctoral program by someone connected to it. I'm graduating from undergrad this year and have strong research experience and coursework- thus my CV is competitive (as attested by someone in the program). Yet, due to personal reasons, my GPA in the first two years is pretty low, while in the last 2 years is 3.9. I'm applying for masters programs in order to reduce the noise in my application, so ideally I would apply to this program after completing my masters, but the fact that I'm being recommended makes applying now potentially better. My question is, how do I talk about my low initial GPA? Should I be candid and address the personal circumstances (which I don't really like discussing) or just mention that I've worked hard to make up for a lower initial GPA? How much does GPA matter for these types of roles? Slightly time-sensitive, so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  7. Hi! I've been accepted to the University of Warwick and also applied to APE at PSE. With regards to your question, I think it depends on what you want to do after your MS-- would you like to go for a PhD or work in the industry? I've heard Warwick has a strong enough reputation to grant you a good job in the UK, but less so outside of it since its brand is not as strong as the Oxbridge/LSE. Additionally, do you (or anyone) have any idea how competitive PSE's masters admission is (in comparison to Warwick/UBC/SFU)? It's my dream school but I get a sense that it's extremely selective and there's a very high number of applicants give then cost.
  8. Hi! I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything from Warwick M.S. Econ? I applied early January and haven't heard anything yet! Also, does anyone know if you can get waitlisted for this program? Thank you!
