  1. Hey Bigdog, also check the mathreview from the gre.org website. You can find it with powerpep software also, which has math review button. In that you will find all topics which can appear on gre math section. http://www.gre.org/pracmats.html
  2. Hi Dingus, your first and third ans are correct. but second one is B. for the first analogy, i still didnot understand the analogy. Tamper means: to make secrete illegal arrangement with, as by bribing.????
  3. 1)Tamper : Adjust a) misrepresent:communicate b)warp:deform c)confess:tell d)mar:deface e)undermine:stop 2)Metaphor : Literal a)biography:accurate b)melody:spoken c)poem:rhythmic d)anthem: patriotic e)ballet:intricate 3)Prescience : Future a)irrationality:sanity b)predictability: past c)irascibility:emotions d)erudition:esoterica e)talkativeness:loquacity
  4. No. of ways to pick 5 numbers from 1 to 20 = 20c5 = 17*19*48. No. of ways not to pick up 10 and 20 = 18c5 = 36*14*17. Therefore probability of not picking up 10 and 20=18c5/20c5 = 36*14*17/17*19*48 = 21/38. So, the probability of 5 numbers include 10,20 = 1 - 21/38 = 17/38.
  5. Each company has 3 rep. Consider them as a whole. and there are 6 companies So we have to choose 2 of 6 = 6c2. And From each company one representative = 3c1 = 3 Therefore Ans.= 6c2(3c1*3c1) = 15*3*3 = 135.
  6. oh yup! for 16), I did mistake in calculating x. x=36*40*12 and therefore per person charge when 40 people chart = 36*10*12/40 = 108. Thanx.
  7. 16. A group can charter a particular aircraft at a fixed total cost. If 36 people charter the aircraft rather than 40 people, then the cost per person is greater by $12. What is the cost per person if 40 people charter the aircraft? Ans: Let x be the total cost for chartering aircraft. Therefore x/40 is per person cost. When 36 people chart, per person cost is x/36. x/40 + 12 = x/36 solving, x = 2160. Therefore per person cost when 40 people work = 2160/40 = 54.
  8. [(2^2-1) (2^2+1)](2^4+1) (2^8+1) = [(2^4-1) (2^4+1)](2^8+1) //(a+b)(a-b) =a^2-b^2 = (2^8-1)(2^8+1) =(2^16-1)
  9. Q. Seven one dollar bills are to be distributed among Lucia,Gomez and Domingo so that each person receives at least one $1. Column A: The number of ways to ditribute the bills so that at least one person receives at least $3. Column B: The total number of ways to distribute the bills. Is there any easy and quick way to solve this problem? I got confused a lot while solving it.
  10. or in this case the remainder is -7???????????? so n cannot be -ve?
  11. so n can -51 which satisfy this condition. I think ans is D
  12. matroid: Why did you suppose number n as non negative. The number n when divided by 11, remainder is 7. So we can say: n= 11x + 7. which also when divided by 5 leaves remainder 1. If x= 4, then n=51 (Remainder =1,when divided by 5) So n is +51. but is there any number which is -ve also.
  13. Column A: Time required to travel d miles = d/s Column B Time required to travel d/2 miles = (d/2)/2s = d/4s. As d and s both r positive, column A is bigger.
  14. thanx awhig! I am preparing from barrons only for maths section. Is it sufficient? i think probability ,permutation and combination is not covered completely in barrons. compare 69^2 and 70^2 - 139 column A = (70-1)^2 = 70^2 +1 - 2*70 = 70^2 - 139 therefore both columns are same.
