  1. @IndianCS Couldn't get what you were sayin' dude?
  2. 1) Publications will definitely give you an edge over other MS applicants. 2) It is definitely advisable to write to prospective profs, because in some cases, the profs may be on the admissions committee or may recommend you to the admissions committee. 3) Work experience/ research in the field you wish to major in, might make a small difference. However, no amount of research/ experience is significant unless you have publications. Hope this answers your questions. All the best:) .
  3. Cool. I think you have chosen wisely. FULL RA is any day better than half-TA:D BTW I got a reject from UMD for MS in ENEE. I was also told by a chap studying there, that the funding situation at UMD is very bad and that it is worsening.
  4. Cool, I am going to USC for MS in EE this Fall. Got rejects from 5 schools in a row:( . Dunno if I'll try for a transfer later, but have no plans of settling in the US. Outside of the US, like you said, it really shouldn't matter. All the best for your PhD. UIC is a great school:grad: .
  5. I think I too will be heading for USC this Fall. gforce's info may be true for MS in CS students, but I just spoke to this MS in EE guy at USC whose pal was offered 100k/annum:D .
  6. Hey crazyivan, I second Chobaka. This is just what I've been saying all along. All the best. I hope you decide to go to GaTech:tup: .
  7. Hey evanescent, You know something - I have been admitted to ASU (Tempe) for MS in EE(Communications) , for Fall 2005. Now, I have only 2 admits so far - USC and ASU. I know USC is a great place for Communications and Signal Processing, but they don't offer any aid. After going through the message you have posted, I am beginning to think about ASU:hmm: . ASU is less expensive when compared to USC. I know that ASU is a great place for majoring in hardware-related stuff, but I dunno about communications. Do you anything in this regard?
  8. CONGRATULATIONS!!! RPI is a great school. Getting into RPI is tougher than getting into NCSU. As far as I know, RPI is a great place for EE, especially communications. Dunno about Computers and Systems Engineering though. All the best.:)
  9. Hey evanescent, How about univ of Minnesota-Twin Cities - isn't that a very good school? And you've been admitted for PhD. I dunno about microelectronics, but I think it is a very good place for EE. All the best.
  10. I think you can do your Masters at GaTech and convert it to a PhD. Eventually, you will be spending the same number of years in getting your PhD. I have seen some people at GaTech actually do this. If you know who your advisor is, I would suggest you contact him/her, and find out if you are allowed to do this sort of thing, esp. since you already have a Masters degree.
  11. Hey Gaurav, From your Emails, you really came across as a nice chap :D . Not just that, you are modest too- Man, your profile is one of the best we ever saw on TM (esp. the 1600/1600). All the best. I hope you get some sort of funding and you decide to go this year.
  12. Hey Jo, Don't despair. I too have got admits from only 2 schools, and these were my safe schools:( . I too am in the same boat, in the middle of the ocean (quoting gforce, who must now be on Cloud 9;) ). Are you still waiting to hear from any other school? You have great acads and research experience. But, getting into a PhD program is much more difficult than getting into the MS program. I second Ranji. I think you should go for TAMU. All the best.
  13. Hey gforce, CONGRATULATIONS on your great admits!!!! Since I am an EE student, I don't know much about the CS scenario, but these are top schools we're looking at. Also, how did you get to know about the CMU and GaTech admits?
  14. Hey crazyivan, Had you applied for MS in EE/CS?
  15. Sorry gforce:blush: , All I can say is that he too had apped for MS in EE. I got to know about the GaTech admission denial by Emailing him. Well, I don't suppose I can tell you who it is unless he posts his admits/ rejects on TM.
  16. @nistha Hey, o' course you didn't hurt my sentiments:) . I just posted those emoticons 'cause you said you liked them. Also, I don't know if I have been waitlisted/rejected at GaTech:crazy: since my app status hasn't changed at all. When I called them up sometime back, I was told that no decision had been made on my application:eek: . However, when a fellow TMian Emailed them a few days back, he was informed that he had been denied admission. I've heard that GaTech does give out some decisions pretty late. I am hesitant to call them up again, because of the bitter experience I had with UT Austin. I was informed about my UT Austin reject over the phone.:(
  17. @ nistha These  are  for  you.:D @ gforce I have applied for MS in EE. I know people who've got in for MS in EE as well (jerrymouse is one o' them), but I remember reading ranji's post - something about GaTech informing all applicants about their decision by April 15th through Email, regardless of whether the applicants have been admitted or not.
  18. I haven't heard from them either:mad: , and my app status also hasn't changed.
  19. Hey roark, Also, do you know anyone who received an admit from UMCP for Fall 2005-MS in EE? How 'bout your friend, who's also applied to UMCP for MS in EE?
  20. Sorry to hear about the ding. All the best for the other schools you've applied to. How did UMCP inform you about the decision?
  21. I'll go with the rest - UIUC!!!!
  22. @ Anand, I was informed that CMU would be making admission decisions throughout April.
  23. UMCP may be taking more time than usual in giving out decisions. Try calling them up. I don't think they give out decisions over the phone, but you can atleast ask them if all decisions have been made. Hope this helps:) . I too am waiting for my MS in EE decision from UMCP.
  24. I don't know if the admission committees are running a little late this year, but the final decision date for 2 schools that I haven't heard from, is May 31st. Apart from this, one school has informed me that decisions will be made throughout April.
