This is my take on the problem. We need the coordinates for the center of the circle first . assuming center = (h,k) stmt 1: (h-2)^2 + (k-4)^2 = (h-5)^2 + (k-10)^2 resolves to some equation of the form ah + bk + c = 0 (no need to solve) insuff stmt 2: (h-2)^2 + (k-4)^2 = (h-4)^2 + (k-1)^2 resolves to some equation of the form ph + qk + d = 0 (no need to solve) insuff combine 1 and 2 => Gives the values for h and k and the center (h,k) Now radius can be determined by finding the distance between (h,k) and any other point on the circle (no need to solve), answer yes or no . Hence sufficient Go with C

Discussed N no of times..not yet finalized..

Should be E A,C, D make the same mistake of comparing novels with authors. Novels should be compared with novels. B is incorrect since it changes the meaning to say ' Jean Toomer’s Cane ' includes the rest plus the usage is wrong -
E is correct Is x^4 + y^4 > z^4? 1. x^2 + y^2 > z^2 2. x + y > z stmt 1: Let x^2 = 3 , y^2 = 4, z^2 = 5 (sides of a right angled triangle) Then x^4 + y^4 = z^4 , 9 + 16 = 25 (can be equal) for some other valuese.g (1,4,1) x^4 + y^4 > z^4 hence insuff stmt2: Let x = sqrt(3) , y =sqrt(4) =2, z = sqrt(5) Then as in stmt1 x^4 + y^4 = z^4 , 9 + 16 = 25 (can be equal) for some other valuese.g (1,4,1) x^4 + y^4 > z^4 hence insuff No additional information on combining stmt 1 and stmt 2 still insuff hence E

james, do not forget about 1 and the number itself e.g 34 , factors 1, 2,17,34 34 -2 = 32 (even), hence OA is right, only 2 satisfies B

Please help me understand a SC question
indi999_us replied to supratim's topic in GMAT Sentence Correction
Supratim, here is my take on this via POE: (A) A star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole after it passes through a red giant stage, depending on mass. - here it is ambigious, is it referring to white dwarf, neuton star or star (B) After passing through a red giant stage, depending on its mass, a star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole. - Sequence of events wrong, Changes meaning, mass has to be determined first before passing through the red giant stage © After passing through a red giant stage, a star’s mass will determine if it compresses itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole. -Misplaced modifier issue, 'After passing through a red giant stage' seems to be modifying star's mass , should be the star . Plus carries forward the same problem as in B (D) Mass determines whether a star, after passing through the red giant stage, will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole. -Correct choice (E) The mass of a star, after passing through the red giant stage, will determine whether it compresses itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole. -Again misplaced modifier issue, 'after passing through the red giant stage' is incorrectly modifying the mass of the star. Plus distorts the meaning to say that the 'mass of the star' is passing through the red giant stage -

Experimental fungicide and Rose Plant
indi999_us replied to Niegra's topic in GMAT Critical Reasoning
There are two objectives that the pesticide should satisfy before it can be used : 1) effectively remove mildew 2) should not harm the plant It is already stated that it does not harm the plant at 10% concentration, but never mentions about its effectiveness at that concentration. E fills that gap. -
Agree with OA C is the unstated assumption: That people are actually interested in saving the whitefish.

Genetic flaws and cost of health care
indi999_us replied to Niegra's topic in GMAT Critical Reasoning
piyusht : Negating B : 'Most diseases linked to rare genetic flaws are NOT preventable' - doesn't it completely break down the argument ? -
A . The clue is in 'repays her political debts as soon as possible' and 'both of longer standing than the one she owes ' in choice A. Time factor made me choose A.

acethegmat , I think you are right , meteorites are extraterrestrial objects and if they contain fullerenes too then scientists cannot conclusively say that the lab conditions are similar to the earth's ??

Experimental fungicide and Rose Plant

E . Assumption being , irrespective of the concentration ,the fungicide will be effective in eliminating powdery mildew from rose plants -
Genetic flaws and cost of health care

B for me -
E for me since the conditions under which shungite was formed is closer to the earth's at that time and Scientists don't know that, only conditions necessary to form fullerene is known.
